【摘要】
隨著中國國際貿(mào)易的迅猛發(fā)展,商務(wù)信函在國際商務(wù)活動溝通中的作用越來越重要。影響國際商務(wù)活動結(jié)果的因素有很多,但恰當(dāng)、得體、禮貌的表達是決定商務(wù)活動成敗的重要一環(huán),因此委婉語在商務(wù)信函中的作用不容忽視。不同文化背景下的委婉語都有著相同的功能,那就是用含蓄的表達來代替可能令人產(chǎn)生不愉快的語句。為了使人們對英語委婉語有足夠的認識,本文將從詞匯和句式兩個方面分析商務(wù)信函中委婉語是如何實現(xiàn)的,并介紹給企業(yè)和個人帶來的好處。目的在于讓人們知道委婉語在商務(wù)信函中的地位并幫助人們熟悉和掌握信函中委婉語的使用,更好地促進貿(mào)易雙方合作的順利進行。

作為商務(wù)活動中的一種常見的語言現(xiàn)象,委婉語存在于各種商務(wù)交際活動中國內(nèi)外關(guān)于委婉語的研究主要是從以下幾個角度:語義學(xué)、社會語言學(xué)、修辭學(xué)、心理學(xué)、語用學(xué),本文所論述的商務(wù)信函中的委婉語屬于語用學(xué),即將委婉語置于某一種特定的語言環(huán)境中進行研究。隨著我國國際地位日益提高,我國對世界市場的影響日益增強,與各國間的商務(wù)往來也日漸頻繁,商務(wù)信函越來越發(fā)揮著不可忽視的作用,如何通過商務(wù)信函與客戶建立長期友好的合作關(guān)系已經(jīng)引起商務(wù)人員的重視。一封合格的商務(wù)信函有著多方面的技巧與要求,其中委婉語的運用是不可忽視的一環(huán)。用委婉的語氣含蓄、禮貌、間接地表達自己的意見、愿望和要求,才能最大可能的留住客戶。
1.委婉語
委婉語的英文是euphemism,這個詞最早出現(xiàn)在希臘字典中。Eu是good的意思,phemism是speech的意思,所以euphemism的意思是nice words,也就是“好聽的話”。
委婉語在《語言與語言學(xué)詞典》中的定義是“用模糊的,使人感到愉快的表達代替令人不悅的或不夠尊敬的話”?!墩Z言學(xué)詞典》中的定義是“用含糊的或溫和的說法來表達粗俗的、直率的或是生硬的話”。作為一種廣泛使用的語言技巧,委婉語存在于社會各個階層、組織或行業(yè)中,用來調(diào)節(jié)并緩和人與人之間的關(guān)系。在商務(wù)活動交際過程中,委婉語的使用可以讓對方感覺到禮貌與尊重,從而更好地促進人與人之間的交流,成功實現(xiàn)交際目的。
2.商務(wù)信函中委婉語的實現(xiàn)方式
人們需要借助詞匯來表達所思所想。商務(wù)信函作為一種正式文體,自然也需要使用正式的詞語。但是,過多的正式詞匯會讓人覺得生硬、嚴(yán)肅或是過于死板。因此在書寫商務(wù)信函時應(yīng)注意措辭,適當(dāng)?shù)氖褂梦裾Z可以營造出讓人舒適的交流氛圍,進而促進雙方的合作。
2.1 委婉詞匯
2.1.1感激詞匯
商務(wù)信函中的感謝類詞匯可以給人一種被尊敬、受禮遇的感覺。
E.g.1 we highly appreciate your sincere cooperation.E.g.2 thank you for your quotation of June 24 for 1000 tons of liquid.E.g.3 we are extremely grateful to you.在以上三個例句中,appreciate、thank、grateful這些詞匯不僅僅傳達出了句子的基本含義,也傳達給對方一種愉悅感。但是需要注意的是,適當(dāng)?shù)母屑ぴ~可以錦上添花,如果過多的使用感激詞有可能讓對方感到不真誠,弄巧成拙。
2.1.2模糊詞匯
模糊詞匯也是一種委婉詞匯,在適當(dāng)?shù)那闆r下可以減小對方的尷尬程度。
E.g.4 we were more than pleased to receive your order NO.23 for TV.E.g.5 we regret to say that we cannot accept your offer.例4中的more than很好的表達出了無比感激之情。例5中的regret一詞在避免直接拒絕的情況下表達出了我方對對方報價的不認同。這兩個模糊詞的使用均讓交易雙方處于愉快的合作氛圍當(dāng)中。
2.1.3情態(tài)動詞
通過商務(wù)信函提出請求或建議時,使用情態(tài)動詞會讓該請求或建議聽起來更禮貌得體。特別是某些情態(tài)動詞的過去式如should、could、might,可以達到比現(xiàn)在時shall、can、may更佳的效果,使請求或建議更容易被對方采納并達到互利共贏的合作目的。
E.g.6 it would be very kind if you could send samples to us.例6中的would一詞很好的傳達了我方希望對方寄來小樣的意愿。同樣地,在使用情態(tài)動詞時應(yīng)注意實際語境,根據(jù)語境要求使用合適的情態(tài)動詞。
2.1.4書面詞匯
在商務(wù)信函中,經(jīng)常用書面詞匯代替口語詞匯,給人一種正式的感覺,可以讓對方覺得我方很看重這次的合作。
E.g.7 the broken glass was due to improper packing.在例7中,貨物破損是雙方都不愿意看到的結(jié)果,也會對雙方利益造成損害,但是寫信放并沒有直接指責(zé)對方的原因是不良包裝引起的,錯不在己,但寫信方?jīng)]有直接指責(zé)對方的在包裝材料或方式上的處理失誤,而是用improper一詞,在既不傷對方的面子的情況下,又給對方一個臺階下,從這里可以看出寫信方的嚴(yán)謹態(tài)度和體諒之心。既委婉地表達了賣方的過失,也暗示寫信方愿意繼續(xù)與對方進行貿(mào)易往來,從而推動合作的成功。
2.2 委婉句式
商務(wù)信函中的委婉句式主要包括被動句、虛擬句、否定句、過去式。
2.2.1被動句
作為一種英語中常見的語言現(xiàn)象,被動語態(tài)可以使語言更簡潔明了。被動語態(tài)廣泛應(yīng)用于商務(wù)信函中,特別是在商務(wù)信函中表達拒絕、投訴、索賠時,若用主動語態(tài)來表述,會顯得不禮貌,若用被動語態(tài)可以避免語氣生硬,傳達出委婉恭敬的態(tài)度,不僅可以保全對方面子,還可以表達我方的誠意。

2.2.2虛擬句
當(dāng)就保險、裝運、價格、索賠等需要達成一致時,建議、請求、命令等情況都不可避免,使用虛擬語氣可以緩和尷尬的場面。為了客氣、溫和地提出請求、建議,虛擬語氣在商務(wù)信函中被頻繁使用,有利于開展長期業(yè)務(wù)合作。
E.g.9 if it were not for the regular orders we receive from a number of our customers,we could not have quoted for supplies even at those prices.例句中虛擬語氣的使用大大地緩和緩和了交易雙方的緊張氛圍。禮貌含蓄的表達可以避免直接正面表達可能帶來的沖突,從而促成交易達成,實現(xiàn)合作共贏的目標(biāo)。由此看來,虛擬語氣在商務(wù)信函中的作用不可忽視。
2.2.3否定句

在日常交流中使用過去式可以使表達顯得更為禮貌得體,也使對方樂于接受。在商務(wù)信函中,如果用動詞的過去式來表達詢問、請求、異議、指責(zé)等意思,可以傳達出謙和委婉的意思,可以在維護自身利益的同時,避免雙方尷尬,從而促進長期穩(wěn)定貿(mào)易關(guān)系的建立和雙方談判的順利進行。
E.g.11 it would not be fair if the loss be totally imposed on us as the liability rests with both parties.過去式可以淡化語氣,使意見或建議委婉并易于接受,從而讓溝通有回旋的余地,進而保證雙方的友好洽談和磋商。

第二,在國際貿(mào)易實務(wù)中買方向賣房提出索賠是比較常見的,如錯發(fā)漏發(fā)貨物,逾期發(fā)貨,貨物的質(zhì)量品質(zhì)達不到銷售合同要求,貨物與樣品不一致等。通常,在驗收貨物時若買方發(fā)現(xiàn)有問題,在明確責(zé)任后,若確實需要向賣方索賠,寫信時的委婉語氣可以讓對方更容易接受索賠要求,從而幫助問題的解決
第三,眾所周知,影響商務(wù)合作結(jié)果的要素中最基本的就是利益與雙方人員的心情。利益是商務(wù)合作的目的,而心情則是這個目的是否能達成的關(guān)鍵因素。委婉語可以讓合作雙方帶著良好的心情進行工作,為彼此爭取回旋的余地,從而幫助建立長期友好合作的商務(wù)關(guān)系。相反,若雙方僅僅只考慮自己利益而忽視對方的心情,必然會導(dǎo)致出現(xiàn)關(guān)系僵局,影響長期友好合作的商務(wù)關(guān)系。

綜上所述,商務(wù)信函中的委婉語主要通過委婉詞匯與委婉句式實現(xiàn),其中委婉詞匯包括感激詞匯,模糊詞匯,情態(tài)動詞,書面詞匯;委婉句式包括被動句,虛擬句,否定句,過去式。隨著我國與世界各國貿(mào)易往來日益頻繁,商務(wù)信函作為商務(wù)溝通中不可缺少的一環(huán),越來越受到貿(mào)易雙方的重視。商務(wù)信函中委婉語的使用可以促成雙方友好合,加強彼此之間的聯(lián)系,最終促進貿(mào)易的發(fā)展。
