chief justice rehnquist, president carter, president bush，president clinton, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, the peaceful transfer of authority is rare in history, yet mon in our country.with a simple oath, we affirm old traditions and make new beginnings.as i begin, i thank president clinton for his service to our nation.and i thank vice president gore for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace.i am honored and humbled to stand here, where so many of america's leaders have e before me, and so many will follow.we have a place, all of us, in a long story--a story we continue, but whose end we will not see.it is the story of a new world that became a friend and liberator of the old, a story of a slave-holding society that became a servant of freedom, the story of a power that went into the world to protect but not possess, to defend but not to conquer.it is the american story--a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals.the grandest of these ideals is an unfolding american promise that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was ever born.americans are called to enact this promise in our lives and in our laws.and though our nation has sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must follow no other course.through much of the last century, america's faith in freedom and democracy was a rock in a raging sea.now it is a seed upon the wind, taking root in many nations.our democratic faith is more than the creed of our country, it is the inborn hope of our humanity, an ideal we carry but do not own, a trust we bear and pass along.and even after nearly 225 years, we have a long way yet to travel.while many of our citizens prosper, others doubt the promise, even the justice, of our own country.the ambitions of some americans are limited by failing schools and hidden prejudice and the circumstances of their birth.and sometimes our differences run so deep, it seems we share a continent, but not a country.we do not accept this, and we will not allow it.our unity, our union, is the serious work of leaders and citizens in every generation.and this is my solemn pledge: i will work to build a single nation of justice and opportunity.i know this is in our reach because we are guided by a power larger than our selves who creates us equal in his image.and we are confident in principles that unite and lead us onward.america has never been united by blood or birth or soil.we are bound by ideals that move us beyond our backgrounds, lift us above our interests

誰見過秦始皇轉(zhuǎn)世？誰聽說過漢武帝托生？唐僧今在哪里（空余大雁塔）？孫悟空又在何方（花果山確有其名）？三皇五帝至于今，包括孔子、老子、莊子等諸子，我們還能在哪里找到他們的身影？

天堂有幾個(gè)？是否也分東西方？上帝是中國人、還是外國人？佛教、道教、基督教、天主教、伊斯蘭教……哪個(gè)教更正確？哪個(gè)教更偉大？各教都主張行善、不殺生，為什么彼此、甚至內(nèi)部仍爭斗不休、甚至打打殺殺？西方極樂世界是各教共享嗎？天無二日，國無二主，上帝是大家一個(gè)，還是各教不一？都希望上帝保佑，上帝是否太忙，太累？

上帝是否崇尚科學(xué)？如不，怎么會允許電腦、電訊泛濫？如果是上帝造人，現(xiàn)在人們的所作所為（核武器、化學(xué)武器等）是否讓上帝感到失控？

人有起源，上帝是否也有起源？上帝有無婚姻？是世襲，還是千古一帝？

許多問題也只能是問問，誰能作答？

緣份也要爭取，友情也要維護(hù)。恩賜也要珍惜，未來全靠創(chuàng)造。沒有救世主。觀世音能救古代人，幫不了現(xiàn)代人。世界發(fā)展太快了。
