An unusual policy by a company in China whereemployees are made to give part of their salary totheir parents has sparked debate online on filialpiety.中國(guó)一家公司頒布一項(xiàng)新規(guī)定,員工需抽出薪水的一部分交給父母,這引起人們?cè)诰W(wǎng)上關(guān)于孝順的激烈討論。
The Guangzhou Daily newspaper reported that thecompany, an unnamed beauty salon chain, wanted topromote good moral values among its employees.廣州日?qǐng)?bào)報(bào)道,這家公司是一個(gè)不院透露名字的美容美發(fā)連鎖店,希望借此機(jī)會(huì)發(fā)揚(yáng)員工良好的道德價(jià)值觀。
Respect for parents is considered a key value in Chinese society and culture.尊敬父母為中國(guó)社會(huì)與文化的重要價(jià)值觀。
But the story, widely carried in local media, has triggered discussion on whether the companyhas gone too far.然而,當(dāng)?shù)乇姸嗝襟w報(bào)道后,這家公司的做法是否合適備受爭(zhēng)議。
Most Chinese parents expect, by tradition, to receive part of their children's salaries once theystart earning a wage.傳統(tǒng)上大多數(shù)中國(guó)父母希望子女開(kāi)始工作后,能得到子女的一部分收入。
In 2013, China passed a law aimed at encouraging filial piety, mandating that those who liveapart from their elderly parents must visit them frequently.2013年,中國(guó)頒布一項(xiàng)法律,旨在弘揚(yáng)孝順,約束那些無(wú)法與年邁的父母在一起生活的子女需要經(jīng)常看望父母。

The Guangzhou-based chain's spokesman, Lu Meiye, said many of her employees were young,poorly educated people from rural villages.廣州連鎖店的發(fā)言人盧美業(yè)表示,店里的許多員工都十分年輕并且來(lái)自農(nóng)村,沒(méi)有接受過(guò)良好的教育。
She said the chain wanted to “inspire filial respect among these employees for their parents,and also help the company maintain its compassion”.她表示:“希望連鎖店能鼓勵(lì)孝順父母,同時(shí)也能有助于公司繼續(xù)保持仁心。”
Ms Lu said the policy, which has been in place for the past three years, was made clear to everypotential recruit.“Those who disagree with it will not be hired,” she said.盧女士說(shuō):“三年前這項(xiàng)規(guī)定便已經(jīng)制定,招聘時(shí)也明確提出,那些不同意的將不會(huì)被聘用”

The average basic salary at the chain is about 3,000 yuan($472).員工的平均薪資大概是3000元。
The company automatically deducts 10% of single employees' salaries and 5% of marriedemployees' salaries every month and wires the money directly to their parents.公司自動(dòng)每個(gè)月扣除單身員工薪水的10%,已婚員工的5%,并將這些錢直接打給他們的父母。
