During the Spring and Autumn Period(707sighted and covets small advantages. If we give him priceless precious stones and fine horses, it is not unlikely that he will allow our army to pass through his country.“ Seeing that Duke Xian of the State of Jin was a little bit grudging, Xun Xi continued to say, ”The State of Yu and the State of Guo are neighbor stated as closely related as lips and teeth. The State of Yu cannot exist independently if the state of Guo is destroyed.Your precious stones and fime hores are just left in the care of the monarch of the State of Yu.“ So Duke Xian of the State of Jin accepted Xun Xi's plan. When the monarch of Yu saw the precious gifts, he was elated, and readily promised to let the Jin army pass through his state.Hearing the news, Gong Zhiqi, one of the ministers as the State of Yu, hastened to admonish the monarch, saying,” That won't do.For the State of Yu and the State of Guo are neighbor states as closely related as lips and teeth. Our two small states are interdependent, and can help cach other when problems crop up.If the State of Guo were destroyed, it would be difficult for our State of Yu to continue to exist. As the common saying goes, if the lips are gone ,the teeth will be cold, The teeth can hardly be kept if the lips are gone.So it won't do at all to allow the Jin army pass our state.“ The monarch of the State of Yu said,” The State of Jin is a big state. Now they here specially to present gifts to us with the intention of being on friendly terms with us.Under suchcircumstances, how can we refuse to allow them to pass through our state?“ Hearing this, Gong Zhiqi sighed repeatedly.Knowing that the State of Yu would soon be destroyed, Gong Zhiqi left the State of Yu together with his whole family. As expected, the troops of the State of Jin, allowed to pass through the State of Yu, destroyed the State of Guo and on their return trip captured the monarch of the State of Yu who went out personally to meet them, htus destroying the State of Yu as Well. This story appears in the chapter ” The Fifth Year of Duke Xi “ in Zuo zhuan, the famous commentary by Zuo Qiuming on The Spring and Autumn Annals. The set phrase ” if the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold " is used to mean that two persons or things share a common lot and that is one fails ,the other is in danger.

He is a Harvard graduate playing in the National Basketball Association. He is an Asian-American in a league devoid of them, which makes him doubly anomalous. No team drafted Lin in 2010.Two teams cut him in December, before the Knicks picked him up.His contract, potentially worth nearly $800,000, was not even guaranteed until Tuesday afternoon. So for the past six weeks, Lin, 23, has been sleeping in his brother Josh’s living room, waiting for clarity and career security. On Saturday night, Lin came off the bench and powered the Knicks to a 99-92 victory over the Nets at Madison Square Garden, scoring a career-best 25 points with 7 assists. Two nights later, he made his first N.B.A.start and produced 28 points and 8 assists in a 99-88 win over the Utah Jazz.Knicks fans now serenade Lin with chants of “Je-re-my!” and “M.V.P.!”.With every game, every precision pass and every clever drive to the basket, Lin is raising expectations, altering the Knicks’ fate and redefining the word “unlikely.” On Twitter, fans and basketball pundits are using another term to describe the phenomenon: “Linsanity.”

Two weeks ago, the 6-foot-3 Lin was not even part of the Knicks’ point-guard rotation, despite their lack of talent at the position. He played sparingly in a few games, showing just enough promise to keep getting another look— a few more minutes, another quarter. But there was never any hint of what was to come. With 25 points Saturday, Lin set the N.B.A.scoring record for a player from Harvard. For an encore, he became the first player in more than 30 years to record at least 28 points and 8 assists in his first N.B.A.start.The last to do so was Isiah Thomas, the Detroit Pistons’ Hall of Fame point guard, in October 1981.“I don’t think anyone, including myself, saw this coming,” Lin said after the game Monday.

Our tolerating ability is indeed way beyond our imagination. But not until the very critical moment will we realize our potential tolerating ability. There was a woman in the countryside who got married at the age of 18 and had to escape with her two daughters and a son wherever she could at the age of 26 due to the Japanese army’s invasion. Many people in the village at that time could not bear the suffering of being a fugitive and wanted to commit sui cide. After she knew about it, she would come to those people and soothed them by saying, “Don’t do that silly thing. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome. The Japanese armies are bound to be foiled one day!”

Finally she insisted until the day when all the Japanese armies were kicked out of China.Nonetheless, her son died of disease without sufficient medicine and nutrition in those days of hardships. Her husband, after knowing the death of his son, lay in bed for two days without eating and drinking anything. She teared to her husband and said, “We have a tough destiny, but however tough our lives will be, we should also persist.Though our son has passed away, we can have another. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome.”

After giving birth to the second son, her husband died of edema, which almost blew her away. But eventually, she recovered and cuddled the three young children, saying, “My sweet hearts, don’t feel scared. You still have me, your dear mum!”

It took her painstaking efforts to raise her children up and the life of her family was getting better and better. Two daughters were married and so was his son finally. She said to everyone she met, “Look! What I said is absolutely right. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome! My life is so happy now!” She was aging gradually and could not do the farm work any more.So she stayed at home and did some stitching work.Nevertheless, the Heaven seemed to show no affection to her who had undergone a rough life. She got her leg broken accidentally when she was nursing her grandson.Due to her old age that posed a great risk to her operation, she did not receive operation and had to lie in bed all day long. Her children all cried heavily, while she merely said, “Why do you cry? I am still living.”

Even though she could not rise from bed, she did not complain about anything and anybody.Instead, she sat on the bed and did some stitching work. She had learnt scarves-weaving, broidery, crafts-making, etc.All her neighbors spoke highly of her skills and came to learn from her.She lived until 86.Before she went to Heaven, she said to her children, “You all should live to your best. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome!”

We will only get to realize our own iron will and strong tolerating ability after getting stricken heavily. Therefore, no matter what you are suffering from now, do not merely complain about the unfairness of our destiny and maintain low-spirited all the time. There are no such setbacks that we could not overcome.Only those who have no confidence and courage to overcome setbacks will be defeated at last!

you do you will win if you don't you won't.Believe in youself trust

youself try your best.don't give up ,never give in, never lose hope ,never say impossible.Ladies and Gentlemen , Good afternoon!I?m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech.today my topic is “youth”.I hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.First I want to ask you some questions:

1、Do you know what is youth?

2、How do you master your youth?

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind;it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness;it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.Youth means a temperamental divdominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for

adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of20.Nobody grows old merely by a number ofyears. We grow old by deserting our ideals.Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry , fear , self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ?s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what?s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there?s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, couragAs you slowly open your eyes, look around , notice where the light

comes into your room;listen carefully, see if there are new sounds you

can recognize;feel with your body and spirit, and see if you can sense

the freshness in the air.Yes, yes, yes, it?s a new day, it?s a different day, and it?s a bright

day!And most importantly, it is a new beginning for your life, a

beginning where you are going to make new desicisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented level!

In your mind?s eye, you can see clearly the things you want to have, the paces you intend to go, the relationships you desire to develop, and

the positions you aspire to reach. You can hear your laughters of joy and happiness on the day when

everything happens as you dream. You can see the smiles on the people around you when the magic moment

strikes. You can feel your face is getting red, your heart is beating fast, and

your blood is rushing all over your body, to every single corner of your

      being!

You know all this is real as long as you are confident, passionate and

committed! And you are confident, you are passionate, you are committed!

You will no longer fear making new sounds, showing new facial

expressions, using your body in new ways, approaching new people, and

asking new questions. You will live every single day of your life with absolute passion, and

you will show your passion through the words you speak and the actions you

take. You will focus all your time and effort on the most important goals of

your life. You will never succumb to challenges of hardships. You will never waver in your pursuit of excellence. After all,you are

the best, and you deserve the best!

As your coach and friend, I can assure you the door to all the best

things in the world will open to you, but the key to that door is in your

hand. You must do your part, you must faithfully follow the plans you make

and take the actions you plan, you must never quit, you must never fear.I

know you must do it, you can do it, you will do it, and you will succeed!

Now stand firm and tall, make a fist, get excited, and yell it out:

I must do it!I can do it!I will do it!I will succeed!

I must do it!I can do it!I will do it!I will succeed!

I must do it!I can do it!I will do it!I will succeed!

hello!ladies and gentlemen, it is so nice to meet you!I am glad

that you can spend this precious time having this class in this

afternoon. Now please allow me to introduce myself to you.My name is Wangjia and I

majored in traffic engineering.Baoji is my hometown it is very

beautiful.and the people are very friendly. As we all knowen thingking is easy acting is difficult and to put

one's thoughts into actions is the most difficult thing in the world. So if we want to learn English well ,we must practice reading English

everyday ,acturally practicing repeatly is the best way to succeed. When

you speak ,don't care how poorly or how well you speak just care about

catching the chance to speak ,enjoy losing face or just forget your face

because the more you speak the better your English will become, never

      afraid of

making mistakes because the more mistakes you make the more progress you will make.As a man living in the world ,we must try our best to make

each day our masterpiece and don't let our parents down ,don't ever let

our country down ,most importantly don't let ourself down.Yesterday is a memory tommorrow is a dream so live for today

just do it right now.I believe if you can dream it you can make it ,if

you do you will win if you don't you won't.Believe in youself trust

youself try your best.don't give up ,never give in, never lose hope ,never say impossible. The success is coming!Thank you!

In the world, I am sure that no one dare say he hasn't met any trouble all his life.So we must face failure. In fact, failure is not fearful, but important thing is how to face it correctly.Facing failure, people will never take their fate lying down. They will try their best to work harder and harder until at last they

succeed. Not being courageous to face setbacks, people have no chance to enjoy the pleasure of success. So they have nothing to do but feel sad and

empty all day and all night. In fact, they lose the chance of success themselves. My friend, whenever in trouble, please remember, “Failure is the mother of

      success.”

Twists and turns in life are unavoidable and are not always bad.We should have a more optimistic view on life and try to make the most of it and draw lessons from the bumps and turns ゛long the way.If there is any single factor that makes for success in living, it is the ability to profit by defeat.Every success I know has been achieved because the person was able to analyze defeat and actually profit by it in his next undertaking.Confuse defeat with failure, and you are doomed indeed to failure. For it isn't defeat that makes you fail: it is your own refusal to see in defeat the guide and encouragement to success.Defeats are nothing to be ashamed of.They are routine incidents in the life of every man who achieves success. But defeat is a dead loss unless you do face it without humiliation, analyze it and learn why you failed.Defeat, in other words, can help to cure its own cause. Not only does defeat prepare us for success, but nothing can arouse within us such a compelling desire to succeed. If you let a baby grasp a rod and try to pull it away, he will cling more and more tightly until his whole weight is suspended. It is this same reaction which should give you new and greater strength every time you are defeated. If you exploit the power which defeat gives, you can accomplish with it far more than you are capable of.

Ideal is the beacon.Without ideal , there is no secure direction;without direction , there is no life.(Leo Tolstoy , Russian writer)

Don“t part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist , but you have ceased to live.(Mark Twain , American writer)

The honest man takes pains, and then enjoys pleasure.

If you wait, all that happens is that you get older.

      ——Larry McMurtry

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
