      商務(wù)信函涉及商務(wù)活動的各個環(huán)節(jié),貫穿商務(wù)活動的始終,內(nèi)容廣泛,通常包括建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系、詢盤、發(fā)盤、還盤、受盤、訂立合同、保險、裝運、索賠等方面。

      二、商務(wù)信函的要求

      1.語言嚴謹準(zhǔn)確

      商務(wù)信函要求語言表達嚴謹準(zhǔn)確,但在商務(wù)信函中恰當(dāng)使用模糊語言,可以使語言表達更加客觀準(zhǔn)確、靈活生動、禮貌得體。

      (3)行話:

      長期的函電交往使人們在使用術(shù)語上形成共識,本來意義差異很大的詞匯在特定的語境中所表達的內(nèi)涵和外延卻非常相似。

      Offer, quotation表示“報價,發(fā)盤”

      Pamphlet, brochure, booklet, sales literature

      表示商家用于宣傳介紹自己公司或產(chǎn)品的“說明材料”

      Shipment和consignmen表示“所發(fā)出的貨物”

      Financial standing/reputation/condition/position

      表示公司的“資信財務(wù)情況”

      Fulfill/complete/execute an order用于表示“執(zhí)行訂單”

      A draft contract或a specimen contract 表示“合同樣本”

      (4)數(shù)量詞的大量運用:

      商務(wù)信函中的時間、價格、數(shù)量、金額、規(guī)格等問題貫穿商貿(mào)活動始終,數(shù)字的表達應(yīng)言之確鑿,避免摸棱兩可,體現(xiàn)商務(wù)信函準(zhǔn)確性。

      四、商務(wù)信函的翻譯原則

      商務(wù)信函屬于比較拘謹正式的公文體,行文端正,用字洗練,一般遵守商務(wù)英語的寫作原則,即5“C”原則:正確(correctness)、簡潔(conciseness)、清楚(clearness)、完整(completeness)、禮貌(courtesy)。具體來講,有以下幾方面內(nèi)容。

      1.遵循“忠實,通順”的翻譯標(biāo)準(zhǔn)

      例如:“We have obtained your name and address from the Singapore Chamber of Commerce, who have told us that you wish to import electric goods manufactured in China.”原譯為:“我方從新加坡商會處獲悉貴方的名稱和地址,得知貴方有意進口中國制造的產(chǎn)品?!贝司涞姆g應(yīng)該說非常通順,注重了信函的語言特點,但是它并沒有做到忠實的原則,譯文中漏譯了“electric”。再如:“I have the honor to notify you that we have commenced a business as commission agents for British goods.” 原譯為:“我很榮幸地告知你我們已經(jīng)開始了一項業(yè)務(wù),來作為英國貨物的代理”。這句的翻譯中絕對忠實于原文,但卻不能夠達到通順的要求,讓人讀起來感到特別生硬,須調(diào)整語序譯為:“我們已經(jīng)開始了經(jīng)營代銷英國貨物的業(yè)務(wù),特此通告?!?/p>

      2.注意信函結(jié)構(gòu)程式化的翻譯

      英漢兩種語言在信函結(jié)構(gòu)程式上有一定的差別。如收(寄)信人的地址、寫信時間及他們的位置都是不一樣的,需要我們在翻譯時做出適當(dāng)?shù)恼{(diào)整,以適應(yīng)目的語的格式規(guī)范。例如:把英語地址由小到大的順序譯為漢語的由大到小的順序,或者有時根據(jù)漢語的習(xí)慣把地址欄省去;把時間也由英語當(dāng)中的日/月/年或月/日/年的順序改譯為漢語中的年/月/日的順序。例如:

      3.運用套譯的翻譯方法

      (1)稱呼語的套譯

      英文信函中常用的是“Dear Sir(s)/Madam/Gentlemen/Ladies”等,此處的“Dear”只是一種表示對收信人的尊稱,是一種禮貌的習(xí)慣性表達方法,并不等同于漢語中的“親愛的”,因此,根據(jù)漢語習(xí)慣我們可以套譯為:“尊敬的閣下/先生/女士/夫人”,有時也可以套譯為:敬啟者、謹啟者、執(zhí)事先生、尊鑒、臺鑒等。

      (2)結(jié)尾敬語的套譯

      結(jié)尾敬語的表達方式有很多,例如:Yours faithfully,F(xiàn)aithfully yours,Yours truly,Best regard,Sincerely,Best wishes,Yours sincerely,Kind regards等等。它們可以直接套譯為:“謹上、敬上、謹啟、順致敬意”等,而不能直接按照字面意思進行翻譯。

      (3)信函正文中一些敬辭和謙辭的套譯

      商務(wù)信函的一大特色就是措辭婉約、注重禮節(jié)、多用套語。英語商務(wù)信函中

      頻繁使用 appreciate,esteem,favor,grateful,kindly,oblige,please,pleasure,Allow us...,Permit us to...,May we...等等。而漢語中常用的一些敬辭包括:“您鑒、貴方、貴國、貴公司、閣下、敬復(fù)、敬悉、惠請、惠函、惠顧、賜復(fù)、奉告、承蒙、恭候”等等;常見的一些謙辭包括:“敝人、敝公司、敝處、卑職、愚見、拙見、拙作、拜讀、過獎”等等。例如:

      We have pleasure in acknowledging receipt of your esteemed favor of the 8th May.敬悉貴公司5月8日來函。

      Kindly provide us with all possible information on your market.惠請告知你方市場詳情。

      4.要注意禮貌原則

      禮貌原則,分為六大準(zhǔn)則:策略準(zhǔn)則、慷慨準(zhǔn)則、贊譽準(zhǔn)則、謙遜準(zhǔn)則、一致準(zhǔn)則、同情準(zhǔn)則。這些準(zhǔn)則解釋了有的交際語言比較禮貌的原因,當(dāng)然這并不意味著最禮貌的形式總是最合適的,因此在商務(wù)信函的翻譯中我們也要這樣對待。

      (1)策略準(zhǔn)則和慷慨準(zhǔn)則

      這兩項準(zhǔn)則常用于指令和承諾,對于咨詢信息、發(fā)盤還盤、商議付款條件、索取免費產(chǎn)品以及就賠付方式進行交涉等方面比較適用。如:

      Should you desire, we would be pleased to send you catalogs together with export prices and estimated shipping costs for these items.若貴方需要,本公司將樂意寄上目錄以及這些項目的出口價格以及預(yù)估的運輸費。

      (2)贊譽準(zhǔn)則和謙遜準(zhǔn)則

      這兩項準(zhǔn)則要求盡量減小對別人的貶損,夸大對別人的贊揚以及縮小對自己的贊揚,夸大對自己的貶損。在商務(wù)信函中這兩項準(zhǔn)則常見于試探合作意向、商談合作細節(jié)或是感謝信當(dāng)中。如:

      We were pleased to know from your letter of 24th October of your interest in our products and enclose the catalogue and pricelist asked for.Also enclosed you will find details of our conditions of sale and terms of payment.奉讀10月24日來函,欣悉你們對我們的產(chǎn)品有興趣。茲附上你們所要求的商品目錄和價目表,并附上我們的售貨條件和付款方式。

      (3)一致準(zhǔn)則和同情準(zhǔn)則

      根據(jù)這一原則,貿(mào)易雙方應(yīng)盡量擴大一致,減少分歧。如:

      We have gone into the matter and we are prepared to make you a reasonable compensation, but not the amount you claimed, because we cannot see why the loss should be 50% more than the actual value of the goods.我們已對此事進行調(diào)查,愿意對貴方給予合理賠償,不過不是貴方索賠的金額,因為我們看不出損失何以超過貨物實際價值的一半以上。

      寫信人在指出對方索賠金額數(shù)目不合理之前首先表明愿意承擔(dān)相應(yīng)責(zé)任,目的在于盡量消除談判的障礙,從而擴展了雙方的一致,確保了合作的順利進行。
