隨著國際商務活動日益頻繁,商務信函翻譯重要性也日益凸顯。涉外商務信函,主要是指在國際商務活動中使用的各種函件,是指用信函的形式與外商與企業(yè)進行涉外商務活動和處理各類業(yè)務問題所使用的文書,如商務交往和聯(lián)系;洽談貿易,商務契約等。毫無疑問,涉外商務信函屬于信息型文本,其主要特點概括起來包括:完整、簡潔、客觀、具體、禮貌、真實。本次涉外商務信函翻譯涉及兩個文本:一個是關于對方詢價的回函,稱為“發(fā)盤”,主要確認收到對方詢價函,向對方介紹本公司產品樣本、質量信息,期望雙方能夠達成貿易;一份是接受對方還盤的回函,內容主要包括接受對方還盤,確認顧客訂單、商品數(shù)量、交貨時間,要求開立信用憑證等信息。
文本分析:
通過查閱相關資料以及文本比較,本文應歸屬于信息類文本中的“商務函電文書”。涉外商務函電主要有四個部分組成:對方詢盤——我方發(fā)盤——對方還盤——我方接受。本文初略涉及兩個環(huán)節(jié):我方發(fā)盤、我方接受,其內容主要涉及產品介紹、合作洽談明細、訂單數(shù)量、信用證、會簽存檔等事宜,雙方來函洽談目的是達成貿易協(xié)議?;谖谋痉治?,我們對要翻譯的文本的“類型”、“特點”以及及文本所傳達的信息和目的有了宏觀的了解,這對于接下來的翻譯工作來說尤為重要。因此,我們在翻譯此類文本的過程中務必注意商務函電的特點,在尊重商務函電“客觀性”、“簡潔性”與“真實性”的基礎上,注重商務函電內容的“完整性”與商務洽談的“委婉”與“禮貌”。其次,在詞匯方面,注重詞語使用的規(guī)范、準確,主義專業(yè)術語運用,如“詢價函”、“還盤”、“信用證”等詞的使用,避免無疑;注重商務洽談套語的處理和使用,如:請會簽后寄回我方存檔;如約履行,敬請放心;如蒙貴方......我們不勝感激。
翻譯評估:
通過文本比較分析,我將自己的兩份譯稿做了以下分析:
1.貴方9月10日詢價函已收悉,首先對貴方有興趣購買我方皮鞋和手提包表示感謝。

譯稿3:I have a acknowledge receipt of your inquiry, and thank you for your interest in our leather shoes and handbags.分析:該句結構簡單,并無任何難詞、難句,主要的難點集中在“貴方9月10詢價函已獲悉”,首先該句省略了“獲悉”的主語,因此在翻譯時如何處理該主語,成為該翻譯的“關鍵”,其次這里還涉及一個商務信函翻譯套語的使用,通過查找平行文本,我發(fā)現(xiàn)對于“貴方9月10詢價函已獲悉”的翻譯,比較傾向于譯稿2和譯稿3的翻譯,因為譯文2與譯文3都很好地注重了商務信函翻譯的客觀性,但在委婉與禮貌的角度,個人認為譯文3既兼顧了客觀性又做到了“委婉”。
2.今天將寄往你處一份配有插圖的出口產品目錄。我方所提供的產品均用優(yōu)質皮革制成。鮮艷的色澤、優(yōu)雅的設計,加之精湛的制作工藝,使這些產品必能滿足貴方市場流行的需求。

3.我們接受貴方3月8日的還盤,現(xiàn)非常高興地與貴方確認我們雙方已就男式皮包買賣達成交易。
譯文1.We have accepted your counter-offer of march 8.And now, we are pleased to confirm you that the transaction of the captioned goods with you has concluded.譯文2.We have accepted your counter-offer of march 8.Now, we are pleased to confirm having concluded the transaction of the captioned goods with you has concluded.分析:該句主要涉及“還盤”的專業(yè)術語,固有格式,由于專業(yè)術語以及商務翻譯方面平行文本的積累和整理不足,我在翻譯時,沒有意識到在開頭要寫出“Re:Leather Bags for Men ”一詞。
4.同時,我們想要強調的是,貴方信用證必須在本月底前開到我處,否則,裝運將會延遲。
譯文1.Meanwhile, we shall be stress that your L/C must reach here by the end of this month.譯文2.However, we shall be stress that your L/C establish with us by the end of this month.分析:該句翻譯,主要問題集中在對轉折性連詞“同時”的理解上,必須根據(jù)語境,發(fā)揮譯者能動性將其翻譯“however”而“and” or“meanwhile”;以及“開信用證”這一商務信函套語的翻譯。
5.隨函附上一式兩份我方第03M15號銷售確認書。請會簽后寄回我方一份存檔。

通過兩次翻譯報告心得的撰寫,我逐漸學會了如何分析文本類型,如何找出文本特點,如何進行譯文對比分析,如何查找和積累平行文本。這兩次翻譯文本都屬于“信息文本”中的商務信函,因為不明白如何翻譯商務信函,我查閱了一些資料,知道了什么是“詢盤”、“發(fā)盤”、“還盤”、“接受”;通過老師的課堂講授,我逐漸清楚了傳真的幾大要素,也開始去了解相關地翻譯理論與策略。
針對此次翻譯,我認為自己較第一次有所進步,能正確進行文本類型、特點分析,能注重商務翻譯格式以及商務翻譯的特點,而問題依然存在。我將自己的問題集中羅列如下:
首先,還是商務方面知識儲備過少,商務翻譯實踐經(jīng)驗缺乏。由于商務知識的積累和實踐經(jīng)驗的缺乏,因此使得自己在商務信函翻譯過程中很“盲從”,甚至有時候對一些常見的用語感到無從下手,無法準確地翻譯出原文本的特點,存在用語不準確,冗雜現(xiàn)象;其次,我認為合格的譯者應該有敏銳的觀察力、熟練的漢英轉換表達能力以及對詞語的詞義、詞性、詞語情感色彩的駕馭能力,而我在這方面非常缺乏;再次,專業(yè)術語積累以及商務函電套語、同義詞辨析的積累不夠,所以在翻譯時有時候出現(xiàn)“詞窮”現(xiàn)象;最后,自己的翻譯效率不高,兩個短小、簡單的商務文本,我卻花了幾乎半天的時間翻譯,這樣的翻譯對于商務翻譯來說,幾乎可以說是無效翻譯,我應該提高自己的翻譯效率,這也是我以后努力的目標和方向。
針對自身問題,我認為自己應該從三個方面著手:勤學習,勤積累,勤練習;在平時學習中注重同義詞辨析積累,注重商務、國際貿易方面的積累;注重“商務信函”翻譯平行文本積累;養(yǎng)成查資料、收集同類型資料的習慣;提高翻譯效率。這是我在此次翻譯過程中的總結與反思,希望以此自鑒,勉勵自己,不斷實踐、改進、提升自身翻譯實踐能力。

商務信函的翻譯
一、何為商務信函
商務信函是商務活動中書面交流信息的主要手段之一,是企業(yè)對外公共宣傳關系中重要的手段,對于樹立良好的公司形象有著極為重要的意義。
商務信函涉及商務活動的各個環(huán)節(jié),貫穿商務活動的始終,內容廣泛,通常包括建立業(yè)務關系、詢盤、發(fā)盤、還盤、受盤、訂立合同、保險、裝運、索賠等方面。
二、商務信函的要求
1.語言嚴謹準確
商務信函要求語言表達嚴謹準確,但在商務信函中恰當使用模糊語言,可以使語言表達更加客觀準確、靈活生動、禮貌得體。
(1)商務英語信函經(jīng)常以意義相同或相近的書面詞語代替基本詞匯和口語詞匯,如以inform或advise代替tell,以duplicate代替copy,以dispatch代替send,以otherwise代替or;以介詞短語代替簡單的介詞,如以as for,in respect to,in connection with和with regarding to等代替about等。例如:
We are pleased to advise you that your order NO.105 has been dispatched in accordance with your instruction.我們很高興地通知你們:第105號訂單貨物已遵照你方指示運出。
We will meet you half way by offering a discount of 5% in view of our long pleasant relations.鑒于我們之間長期愉快的業(yè)務關系,本公司將酌情考慮給予5%的折扣。
(2)商務信函中經(jīng)常使用here/there +介詞構成的復合詞,如hereafter,hereby,hereunder,hereto,hereinafter,herewith,thereafter,therein,therefrom等。例如:
All offers and sales are subject to the terms and conditions printed on the reverse side hereof.所有報盤和銷售均應遵守本報價單背面所印的條款。
In such a case, Seller is bound to reimburse Buyer for any loss or damage sustained therefrom.在此次情況下,賣方負責償還買方由此所遭受的損失。
2.內容清楚簡潔
商務信函在內容表達上要言簡意賅,能夠傳達足夠信息且能夠做到機智的表達。通常是直接簡練,開門見山,忌過分修飾。一般根據(jù)寫信者所要表達的中心
思想分段。正文每段的文字不會過長,尤其是開頭和結尾,更常以簡短為宜。
例如:“By this letter we would ask you to consider our proposal.”就不如”Please consider our proposal.” 簡潔;而“Please let us know whenever we can be helpful.” 則比“Whenever there is any way in which we can be of assistance, please feel free to contact us.”表達好一些。
3.富于外貿術語和專業(yè)詞匯
商務信函用詞表意準確、專業(yè)性強,主要表現(xiàn)在使用大量的專業(yè)術語、行話、外來詞、縮略語以及一般詞語在商務英語語境中的特殊用法。
(1)專業(yè)術語類:
We shall cover TPND on your order.我們將為你方的貨物投保盜竊和提貨不著險。
It would be appreciated if you would let us know by returning your lowest possible price for the following goods on FOB London.請報下列商品倫敦船上交貨之最低價。
(2)外來詞類:
拉丁語的status quo(現(xiàn)狀),意大利語的del credere(保付貨價的),漢語中的litchi(荔枝),tungoil(桐油),mango(芒果)等。
(3)行話:
長期的函電交往使人們在使用術語上形成共識,本來意義差異很大的詞匯在特定的語境中所表達的內涵和外延卻非常相似。
Offer, quotation表示“報價,發(fā)盤”
Pamphlet, brochure, booklet, sales literature
表示商家用于宣傳介紹自己公司或產品的“說明材料”
Shipment和consignmen表示“所發(fā)出的貨物”
Financial standing/reputation/condition/position
表示公司的“資信財務情況”
Fulfill/complete/execute an order用于表示“執(zhí)行訂單”
A draft contract或a specimen contract 表示“合同樣本”
(4)數(shù)量詞的大量運用:
商務信函中的時間、價格、數(shù)量、金額、規(guī)格等問題貫穿商貿活動始終,數(shù)字的表達應言之確鑿,避免摸棱兩可,體現(xiàn)商務信函準確性。
四、商務信函的翻譯原則
商務信函屬于比較拘謹正式的公文體,行文端正,用字洗練,一般遵守商務英語的寫作原則,即5“C”原則:正確(correctness)、簡潔(conciseness)、清楚(clearness)、完整(completeness)、禮貌(courtesy)。具體來講,有以下幾方面內容。
1.遵循“忠實,通順”的翻譯標準
例如:“We have obtained your name and address from the Singapore Chamber of Commerce, who have told us that you wish to import electric goods manufactured in China.”原譯為:“我方從新加坡商會處獲悉貴方的名稱和地址,得知貴方有意進口中國制造的產品。”此句的翻譯應該說非常通順,注重了信函的語言特點,但是它并沒有做到忠實的原則,譯文中漏譯了“electric”。再如:“I have the honor to notify you that we have commenced a business as commission agents for British goods.” 原譯為:“我很榮幸地告知你我們已經(jīng)開始了一項業(yè)務,來作為英國貨物的代理”。這句的翻譯中絕對忠實于原文,但卻不能夠達到通順的要求,讓人讀起來感到特別生硬,須調整語序譯為:“我們已經(jīng)開始了經(jīng)營代銷英國貨物的業(yè)務,特此通告?!?/p>
2.注意信函結構程式化的翻譯
英漢兩種語言在信函結構程式上有一定的差別。如收(寄)信人的地址、寫信時間及他們的位置都是不一樣的,需要我們在翻譯時做出適當?shù)恼{整,以適應目的語的格式規(guī)范。例如:把英語地址由小到大的順序譯為漢語的由大到小的順序,或者有時根據(jù)漢語的習慣把地址欄省去;把時間也由英語當中的日/月/年或月/日/年的順序改譯為漢語中的年/月/日的順序。例如:

3.運用套譯的翻譯方法
(1)稱呼語的套譯
英文信函中常用的是“Dear Sir(s)/Madam/Gentlemen/Ladies”等,此處的“Dear”只是一種表示對收信人的尊稱,是一種禮貌的習慣性表達方法,并不等同于漢語中的“親愛的”,因此,根據(jù)漢語習慣我們可以套譯為:“尊敬的閣下/先生/女士/夫人”,有時也可以套譯為:敬啟者、謹啟者、執(zhí)事先生、尊鑒、臺鑒等。
(2)結尾敬語的套譯
結尾敬語的表達方式有很多,例如:Yours faithfully,F(xiàn)aithfully yours,Yours truly,Best regard,Sincerely,Best wishes,Yours sincerely,Kind regards等等。它們可以直接套譯為:“謹上、敬上、謹啟、順致敬意”等,而不能直接按照字面意思進行翻譯。
(3)信函正文中一些敬辭和謙辭的套譯
商務信函的一大特色就是措辭婉約、注重禮節(jié)、多用套語。英語商務信函中
頻繁使用 appreciate,esteem,favor,grateful,kindly,oblige,please,pleasure,Allow us...,Permit us to...,May we...等等。而漢語中常用的一些敬辭包括:“您鑒、貴方、貴國、貴公司、閣下、敬復、敬悉、惠請、惠函、惠顧、賜復、奉告、承蒙、恭候”等等;常見的一些謙辭包括:“敝人、敝公司、敝處、卑職、愚見、拙見、拙作、拜讀、過獎”等等。例如:
We have pleasure in acknowledging receipt of your esteemed favor of the 8th May.敬悉貴公司5月8日來函。

4.要注意禮貌原則
禮貌原則,分為六大準則:策略準則、慷慨準則、贊譽準則、謙遜準則、一致準則、同情準則。這些準則解釋了有的交際語言比較禮貌的原因,當然這并不意味著最禮貌的形式總是最合適的,因此在商務信函的翻譯中我們也要這樣對待。
(1)策略準則和慷慨準則
這兩項準則常用于指令和承諾,對于咨詢信息、發(fā)盤還盤、商議付款條件、索取免費產品以及就賠付方式進行交涉等方面比較適用。如:
Should you desire, we would be pleased to send you catalogs together with export prices and estimated shipping costs for these items.若貴方需要,本公司將樂意寄上目錄以及這些項目的出口價格以及預估的運輸費。
(2)贊譽準則和謙遜準則
這兩項準則要求盡量減小對別人的貶損,夸大對別人的贊揚以及縮小對自己的贊揚,夸大對自己的貶損。在商務信函中這兩項準則常見于試探合作意向、商談合作細節(jié)或是感謝信當中。如:
We were pleased to know from your letter of 24th October of your interest in our products and enclose the catalogue and pricelist asked for.Also enclosed you will find details of our conditions of sale and terms of payment.奉讀10月24日來函,欣悉你們對我們的產品有興趣。茲附上你們所要求的商品目錄和價目表,并附上我們的售貨條件和付款方式。
(3)一致準則和同情準則
根據(jù)這一原則,貿易雙方應盡量擴大一致,減少分歧。如:
We have gone into the matter and we are prepared to make you a reasonable compensation, but not the amount you claimed, because we cannot see why the loss should be 50% more than the actual value of the goods.我們已對此事進行調查,愿意對貴方給予合理賠償,不過不是貴方索賠的金額,因為我們看不出損失何以超過貨物實際價值的一半以上。
寫信人在指出對方索賠金額數(shù)目不合理之前首先表明愿意承擔相應責任,目的在于盡量消除談判的障礙,從而擴展了雙方的一致,確保了合作的順利進行。
At any rate, we deeply regret to learn from you about this unfortunate incident and should it be necessary we shall be pleased to take the matter up on your behalf with the shipping company concerned.不管怎樣,從貴方聞悉發(fā)生這一不幸事件,我們深表遺憾。如有必要,我們將很樂意代為貴公司向船方提出交涉。
以上這一事例真切地表達了貿易一方對遭受損失一方的慰問及希望給予對方幫助之意,充分體現(xiàn)了同情準則的要求。
