「交際指南」

1.在向人問路之前，一般應(yīng)先說句 Excuse me，這樣一方面可引起對方注意，另一方面又顯得比較客氣。Excuse me，譯成漢語不一定總是“對不起”，此時也可譯為“勞駕”，“請問”等。若對方講的話你沒聽清，你可以說 I beg your pardon？（用升調(diào)，意為：對不起，我沒聽清）或 Would you please say it again？ I‘m afraid I didn’t quite catch you.（請再說一遍好嗎？ 我恐怕沒有完全聽清）。問完路之后，應(yīng)向指路人表示感謝。

2.“向左（右）拐”英語有兩種常見的說法：turn left（right）或 turn to the left（right）。表示 “在左（右）邊”，英語用介詞on 或 at 均可。如 Turn left and walk on，and soon you‘ll see a tall building on [at] the left.（向左拐，然后繼續(xù)走，不久你就會看到左邊有一座高樓）。另外，按照我國的交通規(guī)則是“行人靠右”，而在英國你會看到這樣的交通標牌 Keep to the left（靠左邊走）。3.有時人們在給對方指路后，還往往加上一些句子，以表示他的引路信息介紹完畢。如：You can‘t miss it（你不會找不到的），You are sure to get there（你一定會到達那兒的），You can’t go wrong（你不會走錯的）。

1、Could you tell me how to get to _____?“ 是問去具體某個地方，象博物館，酒店，或街道，的標準句型。

2、如果你不是問一個具體的地方，但需要找到附近的銀行，地鐵站，廁所，等等的地方，那么最好的方式就是用這樣的短語”Where is the closest_____?“

3、人們解釋事物所在地最常用的一種方式就是使用術(shù)語'blocks'。block 是在兩個十字路口之間的一段街區(qū)。因此'the next block'意味著下個路口之后的那段街區(qū)，而three blocks ahead意味著在同一條街道上但過接下來的三個路口。

另一種表示距離有多遠的方式即是使用象這樣的短語'the third right'或'the next left'。因此如果有人說”Take the third street on the left“意思是你應(yīng)該走過兩個路口然后在第三個路口左轉(zhuǎn)。

叫別人左轉(zhuǎn)或右轉(zhuǎn)的不同方式有好幾種。'Take a left'，'go left'，'turn left' 和 'make a left' 都代表同樣的意思：左轉(zhuǎn)?！盙o around the corner“意思是在下個街道轉(zhuǎn)身但不跨越。

五、回答別人問路（指路）的表示方法：

1．Go along the street until you come to the traffic lights.沿這條路一直走到紅綠燈那兒。

2．Turn right / left at the second crossing.(Take the second turning on the right / left.)在第二個十字路口向右 / 左轉(zhuǎn)彎。

3．Take a number 46 bus, and get off at the square.坐46路公共汽車，在廣場下車。4．It's on the corner of Huaihai Street and Xizang Road.在淮海路和西藏路的路口。5．Go straight ahead along the bund and then turn left.沿著外灘往前走，然后往走轉(zhuǎn)彎。

有關(guān)語法注釋：

⑴It's only about ten minutes' walk.(D)那兒離這兒只有走大約10分鐘的路。

it常被用來表示距離，后面可以跟表示距離的名詞短語，也可以跟“名詞（表示時間）+ 名詞（表示行走方式）”，要注意撇號的位置。例如： It is three miles to the lake.這兒離湖有3英里的路程。

My home is not far from here.It's only five minutes' walk.我家離這兒不遠，走5分鐘就到。

It is one hour' ride from Shanghai to Suzhou.從上海坐車到蘇州有1小時的路程。

有時地方名稱也直接做主語：The post office is two blocks away.郵局離這兒兩個街區(qū)的距離。⑵.Simpson Hall is on the corner of Bellflower Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.(T)辛普森樓位于貝爾弗勞爾大道和大西洋街的街角上。

1).corner前可用不同的介詞表示不同的位置概念，街道的拐角可用介詞on或at。例如：

There is a post office at / on the corner of Smith Street and Beach Road.史密斯街和海灣路的十字路口有個郵局。

The dog slept comfortably in the corner of the room.那條狗在屋角舒服地睡覺。

I was about to cross the street when a car came round the corner.我正要過馬路，這時拐角處開來一輛汽車。

2).街道的名稱可使用avenue, street和boulevard。avenue指的是寬闊的林蔭大道，尤其指美國城市里縱向的街道，與其交叉的橫道稱為street。boulevard也是林蔭大道。

⑶.Then walk two blocks straight ahead until you come to Cherry Avenue.(T)然后一直向前走過兩個街區(qū)，直到切里街。

⑷.There's a bus stop across the street on the corner of Cherry and Bellflower.(T)在街對面，切里街和貝爾弗勞爾大道的轉(zhuǎn)角上有一個公共汽車站。

本句中across the street意思相當于on the other side of the street。

⑸.Take a number 10 bus going down Cherry.(T)乘沿切里街行駛的10路公共汽車。

1).乘公共汽車, 火車, 電梯等都可以用動詞take，如后面的例子：

Take the elevator to the second floor.My brother is going to take a ship for Wuhan.2).分詞短語going down Cherry是修飾bus的定語。down在這里是介詞，表示“沿著”，常和along替換使用。請看本課另一句：Then turn to the right and walk one block along Second to the corner of Orange Avenue.然后向左拐，沿著第二街走，穿過一條馬路，到奧蘭治街的街角。

這句中的along也可改用down。又如：

The boat went down / along the river.小船順河而下。

⑹.If you follow these directions, you won't have any trouble.(T)如果你按照上述指引做的話，到保 羅的寓所去是沒有什么困難的。

1.Take the one-way street.走這條單行道.One-way street 就是單行道.尤其在商業(yè)區(qū), 以亞特蘭大和紐奧良為例, 其復(fù)雜的程度可以用進的去, 出不來來形容, 實在不是個愉快的開車經(jīng)驗.2.You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light.你會走一會兒, 直到你遇到第一個紅綠燈.Stay for a while 通常指五到十分鐘的時間, 不會太久.遇見某樣?xùn)|西, 可以用 hit 這個字, 如 hit the traffic light, hit the stop sign 等等.而 traffic light 也有人說成 light, 或 stoplight.3.Then take a left.向左轉(zhuǎn).向左轉(zhuǎn)可以說成 turn left, take a left 或是 Make a left.有時光講 take a left 不明確, 你可以加上路名, 明確地告訴人家要轉(zhuǎn)哪一條路, 例如 Take a left into Hemphill Ave.或是 Take a left onto Hemphill Ave.4.It will be Hemphill Ave.It’s two-lane traffic.那就會是 Hemphill Ave, 它是一條雙車道.指路的時候如果能夠說出街道名稱是最好, 所以通常我會把轉(zhuǎn)到哪一條路的路名也指出來.至于是幾線道一般指路的時候則比較不會提及.雙線道是指來去各一個車道共二線道而言, 四線道就是 four-lane traffic.像亞特蘭大的 Interstate Highway 有些地方都是十二線道, 那就是 twelve-lane traffice 夠驚人吧.5.Come down Hemphill Ave about five blocks.由 Hemphill 街往下走約五個 blocks.英文這個部份跟中文有異曲同工之妙喔.我們會習(xí)慣地說, 往 ”下“ 走, 英文也會說come ”down“ 或是 get ”down“, 這里如果只說 Come Hemphill Ave.聽來是不是怪怪的? 至于 block 指的是一塊一塊的建筑, 外國人在指路時很喜歡用 block 作為計量的單位.6.You will see a BP gas station on your left.在你的左手邊你會看到一座 BP 加油站.指路的時候除了路名之外, 明顯的地標也是有幫助的.通常你可以指出一些明顯的建筑物或是加油站來幫助對方.加油站的英文是 gas station, 有時會簡稱 station.7.Keep going 50 yards before you come to a fork road.繼續(xù)走 50 碼, 直到你走到一個三叉路口.繼續(xù)往下走可以用 keep going 這個字, 或是 continue straight 或是 keep straight 也很常用.Fork road 就是我們說的三叉路口.那如果是丁字路口要怎么說? 你可以說, This road will dead end into 10th Street.就可以表達出丁字路口的意思了.8.Make a right, pass two stop signs and you will run into a Wal Mart.向右轉(zhuǎn)，經(jīng)過二個停車標記（Stop sign），你就會遇到沃爾瑪（Wal Mart）。

美國人喜歡說You’ll run into it!意思就是，你會遇到的。他們也喜歡這么說，You can’t miss it!就是說, 你絕不會錯過的。
