Human resource is the most important thing in the world now.The deepening of economic globalization calls for new breakthroughs, leading to severe competition, esp.of education and talents.We need to develop and elevate education no matter in the way of consolidating and strengthening the competitiveness of HK or in the way of promoting China’s reform and opening-up and modernization.I’m convinced that HKU and the other higher-learning institutions will continue to develop their advantages, integrate, innovate, and extensively pool resources with a view to fostering more talents, producing more fruits, and making more contributions.培養(yǎng)新型人才對教育事業(yè)提出了新的要求，大學不僅承擔著傳播知識、科學研究的責任，而且肩負著傳承文化、服務(wù)社會的使命，港大百年校慶的主題是“知識、傳承、服務(wù)”，這反映了教育促進人的全面發(fā)展的理念和功能。香港高校背靠祖國，又置身于國際化大都市，在弘揚中華優(yōu)秀文化、提升香港文化品質(zhì)、豐富社會精神方面，可以發(fā)揮重要作用；在優(yōu)化人力資源的配置、促進教學科研成果的應(yīng)用、使廣大民眾參與和共享社會發(fā)展進步方面，也大有可為。

Fostering new type of talents entails new requirements for education.Universities not only shoulder the responsibility of imparting knowledge and conducting scientific research, but also are endowed with the mission of inheriting culture and serving the society.This centennial ceremony’s theme is “knowledge, inheritance, and service”, which demonstrates the function of education: developing a whole person.Hong Kong universities, in the international metropolis, can play significant roles in carrying on Chinese fine traditions and cultures, elevating HK culture, and enriching the social culture.They also have great possibilities in optimizing human resource allocation, promoting the application of teaching and research fruits, appealing to civilians to be actively engaged in and sharing social progress, etc..香港的繁榮與祖國的建設(shè)，需要千千萬萬掌握現(xiàn)代知識技能、熟悉國情區(qū)情、通曉國際規(guī)則的人才，需要加強內(nèi)地和香港教育交流。在這方面，香港和內(nèi)地已經(jīng)建立了有效的合作機制，采取了許多措施。今天在我們慶祝港大百年的時候，我想特別的告訴大家，從明年開始，中央有關(guān)部門將設(shè)立專項資金，每年支持1000名港大的學生和老師到內(nèi)地去學習、考察和開展科研工作；同時，國家將支持香港其他高校與內(nèi)地高校開展廣泛而深入的合作，為幫助師生們了解內(nèi)地、熟悉國情提供條件，促進內(nèi)地和香港教育科技事業(yè)的共同發(fā)展。

The prosperity of HK and the construction of our motherland need countless talents who’re equipped with modern knowledge and techniques, familiar with national situations, know well international routines.Thus we need to enhance the educational exchanges between HK and the mainland.In this regard, HK and the mainland have established efficient mechanism of cooperation and adopted many measures.Today when we celebrate the centennial of HKU, I’d like to tell you, in particular, that, from the next year, the central government will set up exclusive fund and sponsor 1000 faculty members and students to study, inspect, and conduct research in the mainland;in the meanwhile, it will also sponsor the other higher-learning institutions to conduct extensive and in-depth cooperation with the mainland ones, helping HK faculty and students know more about the mainland as well as promoting the mutual development of the educational and scientific, and technological cause of HK and the mainland.老師們、同學們、朋友們！

對于專業(yè)的選擇，我認為興趣是最重要的。盡管某些專業(yè)可能會更熱門，但我堅持我的選擇。我個人對于數(shù)學學科以及其他與之相關(guān)聯(lián)的學科非常感興趣，除此之外，我還閱讀了大量與數(shù)學學科相關(guān)的書籍，這在種程度上讓我對于我將要學習的學科有了一個很好的把握。此外，在全國高中生數(shù)學聯(lián)合競賽中我還獲得過三等獎。因此對于我的專業(yè)選擇，我有著足夠的信心。

在一些人的觀點中，適應(yīng)港大的學習生活會可能會是一個極大的困難。但對于我而言挑戰(zhàn)看起來似乎多于困難。我不認為生活中的挑戰(zhàn)會把我打敗，相反，它使我成長，給予我勇氣來面對其他困難。我曾在高中階段被選為學生會的副主席，我肯定我的個人能力結(jié)合我在學生會的工作經(jīng)驗?zāi)軌蚴刮覔碛幸粋€完美的大學生活！

A free learning environment, a long history and the international locality are the most impressive impression that The University of Hong Kong has made on me.And the reason why I choose HKU as my dream is just the same.Not only is HKU the most respectable university in Hong Kong but also the free atmosphere of academia which is different from that in mainland has attracted me a lot.As for my choices of curriculum, I think the interest is the most important.Even though some other curricula can be more popular, I stick to my choice.I love mathematics as well as some other subjects which have connection with it.I have read many books related, and to some extent it gives me a good comprehension of what I’m going to learn.Besides, I have won the third prize in the national high school mathematics competition.So I have enough confidence in my choices of curricula.In somebody’s view adapting to the new life in HKU can be very difficult.But for me it looks like more challenges than difficulties.I don’t think the challenges in life can defeat me.On the contrary, it makes me mature and gives me the courage of facing any challenges.I was elected the vice-president of students’ union in my high school years, and I’m sure that my abilities combined with my practice in the students’ union should enable me to have a prefect life in HKU!
