faith: i think we could easily cut down on “vampire power.” our computers and other electronic devices actually continue to suck power, even when they are switched off.h: good one!the online encyclopedia wikipedia claims that “vampire power” or “standby power” is responsible for using as much as 10% of electricity consumption.-----------------------------

dana: we could unplug the equipment or put in power strips that can completely turn off power.t: just imagine...we could save 10 or 15 % on our energy bill just by unplugging our computers!

h: and that's just the beginning!you see these lights above us? these use led bulbs that are 10 times more efficient than the bulbs you are using in the rest of the office.f: but they're pretty pricey, aren't they?

d: i've got one that will require a bit of sacrifice.we really don't need to use bottled water for meetings.we could also get rid of paper cups for the water cooler and everyone could use their own mug instead.f: ahhh....i love bottled water....but i agree, dana's idea is certainly more environmentally friendly.h: yep.sometimes going green does require that we change our mindset.it's funny how many of us are very conscientious at home.we recycle and reuse, but when we get to the office, we sometimes become very wasteful.dana建議公司取消瓶裝水，不用紙杯子，得到大家的認(rèn)可。henry指出，工作場(chǎng)所節(jié)能需要改變思維，change our mindset。

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Zhang Botao, I am from Shaanxi University of Science & Technology.When I stand here to deliver my speech, I’m a little worried about my cell phone and also yours.I’m afraid that one of them may suddenly ring loudly so that my fascinating speech will probably be interrupted by SIMENS, NOKIA, MOTOROLA or pANDA.And this is just one possible result caused by economic globalization.No matter if you admit it or not, we are now all in a global village and economic globalization is here to stay.Nowadays, economic globalization is being referred to more and more.I don’t know who first invented the word, but undoubtedly, it is steadily and inexorably becoming more and more common and important.It covers our world so quickly, just like influenza.As Charles Darwin noted: Survival of the fittest.In order to adapt to this great and global reform, I think, there must be something important and urgent we need to do, for every nation, every corporation, and even to every person.First, take me for an example.Just ten years ago, I did not know what a computer was, let alone what it can do.But since 2001, I cannot live without my computer, just like I can’t live without my cell phone!Of course, these great changes are derived from economic globalization, and the rapid development of China.For every Chinese man like me, these rapid changes mean great challenge: Because of economic globalization, many new technologies rushed into China without translation;Because of economic globalization, many unknown software appeared on our desks;And, because of the economic globalization, we must hasten our rhythm of living, working and even resting.The speed of the development of China has been tremendously accelerated, so if we don’t want to be elapsed from this great tidal wave of development, we must understand the meaning of this phrase very clearly: One is never too old to learn.Second, to an enterprise in China, it also means a problem concerning survival.Our entrance to WTO has paved the way for many super universal corporations to enter the economic market of China.This means the competition in our domestic market will be much more brutal than ever before.If our state enterprises and other companies don’t adjust to this global reform and get used to the more and more cruel competition, surely they will be elapsed in this blood-red economic battle.If you want your company to stand up at last, I think the most important thing for you to do is that, “Firm your confidence and welcome the great coming challenge.”

Third, as globalization is gradually knitting separate national economies into a single one, if one nation would like to stand up and develop during these global changes, it must effectively carry out some economical and political reforms.For example, reducing the tax to attract more international organizations to invest in our country, or do some political reforms, to cater for some important international organizations.Maintaining an average 8% economic increase rate per year needs not only effective and promising economic policy, but also the prudent leadership.Economic globalization brings us not only a great challenge, but also a great chance to develop.It brings us a great potential of international corporations and makes them take roots and develop in China.And this will create new job opportunities for our huge labor market.If we can strengthen ourselves and take the chance, I promise, China’s development will be hastened greatly, and China will become the leader of economic globalization of the world!

各院系、全體2011級(jí)研究生：

由北京市高等教育學(xué)會(huì)研究生英語(yǔ)教學(xué)分會(huì)主辦的北京市研究生英語(yǔ)演講比賽將于2011年12月3日進(jìn)行復(fù)賽，12月10日進(jìn)行決賽。

為選拔推薦優(yōu)秀研究生參加北京市研究生英語(yǔ)演講比賽，并借此機(jī)會(huì)進(jìn)一步探索我校研究生英語(yǔ)教學(xué)模式，提高研究生英語(yǔ)演講和交流能力，研究生院、黨委研工部和外國(guó)語(yǔ)學(xué)院將于10月至11月期間聯(lián)合組織華電賽區(qū)的英語(yǔ)演講比賽。

本屆比賽活動(dòng)將以各英語(yǔ)口語(yǔ)班為單位，通過(guò)專題課程、小組討論、觀摩學(xué)習(xí)、班班對(duì)抗賽等環(huán)節(jié)，選拔推薦選手參加華電賽區(qū)決賽，旨在實(shí)現(xiàn)比賽與教學(xué)相結(jié)合、優(yōu)秀選拔與全面提高相結(jié)合?，F(xiàn)將有關(guān)事項(xiàng)通知如下：

2、10月27日，11月3日，各口語(yǔ)班以班為單位根據(jù)演講主題開(kāi)展小組討論活動(dòng)，搜集資料、整理和撰寫(xiě)講稿、觀摩演講比賽視頻，每班推出6名突出的同學(xué)參加班班對(duì)抗賽。班班對(duì)抗賽的參賽名單另行公布。

3、11月10日，舉行班班對(duì)抗賽，兩個(gè)班12名選手參加對(duì)抗演講，其他同學(xué)助陣。通過(guò)比賽選拔出2名選手參加學(xué)校的演講比賽決賽，口語(yǔ)班共選出28位選手，高級(jí)英語(yǔ)班由老師推薦2名選手，一共30位選手參加11月17日的決賽。

4、11月17日，舉行全校研究生英語(yǔ)演講比賽決賽(具體比賽安排另行通知)。每位參賽選手準(zhǔn)備三分鐘的演講，當(dāng)場(chǎng)回答評(píng)委的2個(gè)問(wèn)題。通過(guò)比賽最終選出2名優(yōu)勝者參加北京市研究生英語(yǔ)演講比賽。

5、外國(guó)語(yǔ)學(xué)院將根據(jù)英語(yǔ)免修同學(xué)報(bào)名參加比賽情況，把報(bào)名參賽的英語(yǔ)免修同學(xué)分配到各個(gè)口語(yǔ)班，參加10月27日和11月3日的口語(yǔ)活動(dòng)，與口語(yǔ)班的同學(xué)同臺(tái)競(jìng)爭(zhēng)。

五、獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)設(shè)置

1、本次比賽華電賽區(qū)將評(píng)出校級(jí)一等獎(jiǎng)2名，二等獎(jiǎng)4名，三等獎(jiǎng)8名，優(yōu)秀獎(jiǎng)若干。我校將推薦兩名獲獎(jiǎng)選手參加北京市研究生英語(yǔ)演講比賽復(fù)賽。
