英美詩歌的押韻

押韻（rhyme）是指一個音節(jié)的讀音在以后音節(jié)讀音中的重復，或是一個單詞的最后一個音節(jié)或幾個音節(jié)的讀音在以后音節(jié)相應位置的讀音重復。

從押韻的位置看，押韻主要有頭韻(alliteration)、尾韻(end rhyme)和中間韻或腹韻（internal rhyme）。尾韻又分全韻（perfect rhyme）和非全韻(imperfect rhyme)兩種。全韻要求押韻的輔音和元音都相同，非全韻又包括只是元音相同但輔音不押韻的元韻（assonance）和只押輔音不押元音的和韻(consonance)，另外，還有從拼寫上看起來似乎押韻但實際讀音并不押韻的目韻（eye rhyme, visual rhyme or sight rhyme）等。

第一節(jié) 頭韻

頭韻是指一行（節(jié)）詩中幾個詞開頭的輔音相同，形成押韻。如克里斯蒂娜?羅塞蒂的《歌》前兩詩節(jié)：

When I am dead, my dearest, Sing no sad songs for me;Plant thou no rose at my head, Nor shady cypress tree:

Be the green grass above me With showers and dewdrops wet;And if thou wilt, remember，

That I in your sweet thoughts would be forgot If thinking on me would make you woe.3

每行都有不同的頭韻。第一行為mourn / me，第二行為surly / sullen，第三行為warning / world，第四行為world / worm，第五行為read / remember，第八行為me / make和would / woe。第二行、第三行和第五行為than / that / this，第七行和第八行為thoughts / thinking。這樣的不同首字母交替出現(xiàn)在一個詩節(jié)中，可以稱為交叉頭韻。

詩人在使用頭韻時，還使用一種聲音的重復，通過這種聲音的重復表達一種獨特的情感。如多恩的《歌》：

When thou sigh’st, thou sigh’st not wind But sigh’st my soul away;When thou weep’st, unkindly kind, My life’s blood doth decay.It cannot be, That thou lov’st me, as thou say’st, If in thine my life thou waste, Thou art the best of me.4

此詩節(jié)使用的頭韻有when / wind / weep / waste，sigh / soul / say，doth / decay，blood / be / best，thou / then / that等。另外，在sigh、kindly、thine、my和life中有頻繁的元音字母i，此音暗示悲傷和抑郁，加上它 3 有一天你會聽到陰郁的鐘聲 / 向世人宣告我已逃離這污穢的世界 / 伴隨最齷齪的蛆蟲往另一世界安身，/ 我勸你千萬不要為我而悲鳴。/ 還有，你讀這行詩的時候千萬別記掛 / 這寫詩的手，因為我愛你至深，/ 惟愿被忘卻在你甜甜的思緒里，/ 我怕你想到我時會牽動愁心。（辜正坤 譯）4 你嘆息時，嘆的不是氣，/ 而是嘆掉了我的魂魄；/ 你哭泣時，好心卻似惡意，/ 我的生命血液即枯竭。/ 那就不可能，/ 像你所說的那樣，你愛我，/ 如果你把我在你中的生命揮霍，/ 那是我最好的部分。（傅浩 譯）

雙音節(jié)尾韻(double rhyme)和三重音節(jié)尾韻(triple rhyme)。

單音節(jié)尾韻又稱男韻或陽韻（masculine rhyme），是在詩行結(jié)尾重讀音節(jié)之間出現(xiàn)的最普遍的押韻。如米勒《在太平洋之濱》第二詩節(jié)：

Above yon gleaming skies of gold One lone imperial peak is seen;While gathered at his feet in green Ten thousand foresters are told.And all so still!So still the air

That duty drops the web of care.6

(Joaquin Miller: By the Pacific Ocean)

第一、四行押韻，第二、三行押韻，第五、六行押韻，都是重讀單音節(jié)。

雖然是單音節(jié)押韻，但它只要求一個音節(jié)押韻，而不要求押韻的一個音節(jié)是一個單音節(jié)單詞。例如葉芝《走過柳園》第一節(jié)：

Down by the sally gardens my love and I did meet;She pass’d the sally gardens with little snow-white feet.She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree;But I, being young and foolish, with her would not agree.7

這里第四行的agree就是一個雙音節(jié)單詞，它只在第二個音節(jié)上與前行的tree押韻，而且它是重讀音節(jié)。

雙音節(jié)韻又稱女韻或陰韻（feminine rhyme），其基本特征是行尾單詞最后兩個音節(jié)押韻，其中倒數(shù)第二個音節(jié)是重讀音節(jié)，而最后一個音 6 那邊耀金光的天空上面，/ 只見有巍峨的孤峰一座；/ 在它蔥綠的山腳旁，據(jù)說，/ 聚集有林中的居民一萬。/ 都這么靜！空中靜成這樣，/ 使職責放下了操心之網(wǎng)。（黃杲炘 譯）7 在那柳枝花園下邊，我遇上我的愛；/ 她走過柳枝花園，赤裸的纖足雪白。/ 她要我輕松地相愛，像樹兒抽著綠葉，/ 但是我年輕愚蠢，她的話我不同意。（裘小龍 譯）

為重讀加非重讀，跟其余兩個單詞押韻。這就是說，雙音節(jié)韻的單詞也可以是多音節(jié)單詞，但其押韻的音節(jié)只能是兩個，而且是多音節(jié)中最后兩個音節(jié)。同時，其結(jié)構(gòu)也不能改變，是重讀音節(jié)加非重讀音節(jié)。

再如濟慈《致一些女士》第一詩節(jié)：

What though while the wonders of nature exploring, I cannot your light, mazy footsteps attend;Nor listen to accents, that almost adoring, Bless Cynthia’s face, the enthusiast’s friend.10

這個詩節(jié)是單韻和雙韻混合使用。exploring / adoring都是三個音節(jié)，但重讀音節(jié)在倒數(shù)第二個音節(jié)上，最后一個音節(jié)是非重讀音節(jié)，因此它們押雙韻。

在多音節(jié)單詞中，如果最后兩個音節(jié)押韻，但倒數(shù)第二個音節(jié)不是重讀音節(jié)，也可以歸入雙韻。如下面這首選自莎士比亞《鳳凰與斑鳩》中的一段詩：

Beauty, truth, and rarity Grace in all simplicity, Here enclosed in cinders lie.Death is now the phoenix’ nest;And the turtle's loyal breast To eternity doth rest，Leaving no posterity:--10 不能跟隨你輕盈迷宮般的腳步，/ 也不能聽你令人仰慕的口音，/ 縱然探索自然的奇觀又有何意義，/ 祝福月亮的臉龐，熱心者的朋友。

四行：

I don’t choose to say much upon this head, I’m a plain man, and in a single station, But-oh!Ye lords of ladies intellectual, Inform us truly, have they not hen-peck’d you all? 12

intellectual有五個音節(jié)，其中l(wèi)ectual有三個音節(jié)，同下一行的peck’d you all押三重馬賽克韻。

第三節(jié) 內(nèi)韻

內(nèi)韻，又稱中間韻、行內(nèi)韻、腹韻，指一行詩內(nèi)的一個詞語與同一行詩行尾的詞語或另一行詩中的一個詞語之間的押韻。它不是在行尾的押韻，既可能與同一行詩中的詞語押韻，也可能同下一行詩中的詞語押韻，還可能同隔行詩中的詞語押韻。

一行詩內(nèi)的一個詞語與同一行詩行尾的詞語押內(nèi)韻的例子，如雪萊的《云》，以第一詩節(jié)為例：

I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers，F(xiàn)rom the seas and streams;I bear light shade for the leaves when laid In their noon-day dreams.From my wings are shaken the dews that waken The sweet buds every one, When rocked to rest on their mother’s breast, As she dances about the Sun.12 我在這一點上不想多費唇舌，/ 我是一個平常人，而且是單身，/ 但是——?。∮兄R的太太的老爺們啊，/ 老實告訴我們，她們沒有虐待你們大家么？（朱維基 譯）

（Allan Poe: The Raven）

第一行的remember / December以及第三行的morrow / borrow分別都是同一行內(nèi)押內(nèi)韻。December / ember和borrow / sorrow 屬于一行詩的尾韻詞同下一行詩中間的詞押韻，兩行詩不再押尾韻，這種結(jié)構(gòu)的押韻叫隔行內(nèi)韻（alternate rhyme）。另外，第四行的lost Lenore和第五行的rare and radiant押頭韻。

《烏鴉》第三節(jié)第一、二行如下：

And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me___ filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before.《烏鴉》第五節(jié)后三行如下：

And the only word there spoken was the whispered word.―Lenore!‖ This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, ―Lenore!‖

Merely this and nothing more.17

在這些詩行中，thrilled / filled，whispered / murmured / word 都是同一 1

第一行的reach和第二行的tree構(gòu)成元韻，第二行的tree和第四行的me則構(gòu)成全韻。

行內(nèi)元韻指一行詩中相鄰單詞中相同元音的重復，這種重復也可以出現(xiàn)在幾行詩中。例如：

Skirting the river road,(my forenoon walk, my rest,)Skyward in air a sudden muffled sound, the dalliance of the eagles, The rushing amorous contact high in space together，The clinching interlocking claws, a living, fierce, gyrating wheel, Four beating wings, two beaks, a swirling mass tight grappling, In tumbling turning clustering loops, straight downward falling, Till o’er the river pois’d, the twain yet one, a moment’s lull, A motionless still balance in the air, then parting, talons loosing, Upward again on slow-firm pinions slanting, their separate diverse flight, She hers, he his, pursuing.20

四行尾詞的輔音[d]押韻，后三行尾詞的輔音[nd]押韻。

行內(nèi)和韻和節(jié)內(nèi)和韻指在一行詩內(nèi)押韻和在一個詩節(jié)的詩行行內(nèi)押韻。這種押韻只考慮重讀音節(jié)的輔音押韻，可以出現(xiàn)在任何位置，并不要求押尾韻。以弗羅斯特的《雪夜林邊駐足》前兩詩節(jié)為例：

Whose woods these are I think I know.His house is in the village, though;He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.23

第一行的whose / woods / these中的輔音字母s的讀音都是[z]且又是尾輔音，因此形成行內(nèi)和韻。它還同整個詩節(jié)以及全詩中的尾輔音[z]形成節(jié)內(nèi)和韻以及全詩和韻。另外，每詩節(jié)第一、二、四行押尾韻（know / though / snow，queer / near / year）。whose / woods，his / is /in / village，2223 游動浮云上的色彩—/ 山后，禁止涉足的圍場—/ 和那后面的房舍—/ 就是樂園所在的地方。（江楓 譯）
