1.What is the weather like out there? 外面的天氣如何?

要問(wèn)別人外面的天氣如何, 最簡(jiǎn)單的問(wèn)法就是, “What's the weather like out there?” 或是我們可以用一個(gè)很簡(jiǎn)單的 it 來(lái)代表天氣, 像是 “What's it like out there?” 這樣講也可以.還有要是你不喜歡用 What 來(lái)作問(wèn)句, 你也可以簡(jiǎn)單地說(shuō), “How is the weather out there?”

但是如果我們想問(wèn)別人未來(lái)的某一個(gè)時(shí)間會(huì)不會(huì)出太陽(yáng)或是會(huì)不會(huì)下雨, 例如我想問(wèn)人家星期一會(huì)下雨嗎? 像這種情況我們就可以說(shuō), “Is it supposed to rain on Monday?” 這里用到了一個(gè) be suppose to 的片語(yǔ), 這種講法是老美最喜歡的.再比方說(shuō)吧, 如果我們假設(shè)明天有什么活動(dòng), 我們常常會(huì)要求別人先看看明天會(huì)不會(huì)出太陽(yáng)或下雨, 這種情況老美他們會(huì)說(shuō), “Why don't you check and see if it's sunny tomorrow?”(你何不看看明天會(huì)不會(huì)出太陽(yáng)呢?)這里把 see if it's sunny 改成 see if it's going to rain 就變成了看看會(huì)不會(huì)下雨.2.It's a beautiful day.今天天氣很好.老美都是怎么形容天氣很好的呢? 通常他們會(huì)用 beautiful, nice 或是 lovely 來(lái)形容.其中我最常聽到的就是, “It's a beautiful/nice/lovely day.” 反之如果是天氣很糟下大雨呢? 你可以用 “It's nasty.” 來(lái)形容.但是有時(shí)候也可以用反諷的講法.有一次外頭下著傾盆大雨, 我和一個(gè)美國(guó)同學(xué)又正好沒(méi)帶傘.結(jié)果她居然說(shuō), “How lovely.”(天氣可真是好啊.)當(dāng)時(shí)我還正經(jīng)八百地問(wèn)她是否天氣很差可以用 lovely 來(lái)形容, 后來(lái)我才知道原來(lái)她只不過(guò)是在講反話, 害我有點(diǎn)受騙的感覺(jué).3.It rained cats and dogs last night.昨晚雨下得很大.Rain cats and dogs 是一句非常受歡迎的俚語(yǔ)啦, 幾乎每個(gè)在美國(guó)的外籍學(xué)生都懂得用 rain cats and dogs 來(lái)形容雨下得很大.當(dāng)然如果你不想用俚語(yǔ)的講法, 你可以單說(shuō), “It's raining really hard.”(雨下得很大)或是, “We're having a heavy rain.” 同樣也是雨下得很大.那雨下得很大, 我被淋成了「落湯雞」這整句話要怎么講? 落湯雞在英文里只能用 “I am soaked.”(我濕透了)來(lái)形容, 所以整句話就成為.“It's raining cats and dogs out there so I am soaked.”

中文里常形容下雨像是用「倒」的一樣, 這在英文里也有同樣對(duì)等的字眼喔!英文里用的是 downpour 這個(gè)字.形容下雨像是用倒的一樣(pour 單獨(dú)解就是倒水的意思).所以下雨像是用倒的我們可以說(shuō), “We had a downpour.”

另外有一個(gè)十分口語(yǔ)的講法, “It's really coming down out there.” 也是形容雨下得很大, 像是用「倒」的一樣.5.It's just sprinkling.只是在下毛毛雨而已.在英文里不管下毛毛雨或是毛毛雪我們都可以用 drizzle 和 sprinkle 這兩個(gè)動(dòng)詞來(lái)表示.Drizzle 這個(gè)字就是氣象術(shù)語(yǔ)里「下毛毛雨」的意思.而 sprinkle 則是一個(gè)動(dòng)詞表示「撒」, 但也常被用來(lái)形容毛毛雨, 常聽到的用法就是, “It's drizzling.” 或是 “It's sprinkling.”

另外還有一個(gè)字叫 scattered rain.指的則是零零星星地降雨.例如, “We have to cancel the track and field contest because of the scattered rain.”(因?yàn)榱阈堑慕涤晁晕覀儽仨毴∠飶劫?)

6.You need to put on your sweater because it's freezing.你必須穿上你的毛衣因?yàn)橥饷婧芾?形容天氣冷有幾個(gè)形容詞可以使用, chilly 指的是天氣有點(diǎn)「涼」, cold 指的是「冷」, 而 freezing 指的則是「凍」.除了 freezing 之外, 我室友還教我一個(gè)俚語(yǔ), “It's colder than a witch's titty.” 也可以形容天氣很冷,(還可以形容不友善 unfriendly)不過(guò)我想這不是什么好話, 因?yàn)楫?dāng)時(shí)他女朋友一直試圖要阻止他教我這一句俚語(yǔ).至于各種冷的程度完全視個(gè)人而定, 像我可能覺(jué)得攝氏五度以下就算是 freezing 了, 可是你相不相信, 這種溫度時(shí)還有老美穿著 T 恤在校園里走來(lái)走去呢!我想他們覺(jué)得這種溫度只是 chilly 吧!

不過(guò)嚴(yán)格上說(shuō)起來(lái), 只有攝氏零度以下才能說(shuō)是 freezing.因?yàn)?freeze 是指液體凝結(jié)成固體, 而 freezing point 則是指「冰點(diǎn)」.水的冰點(diǎn)是攝氏零度, 所以照理說(shuō)零度以下才能算是 freezing 啦!不過(guò)平常何時(shí)使用 freezing 則是看個(gè)人的感受而定了, 不需嚴(yán)格去界定.Bonus: 溫度零度是用 zero degrees, 而非 zero degree.許多人常犯這個(gè)錯(cuò)誤.7.It's burning up out there.外面熱得跟火爐似的.以前還沒(méi)來(lái)美國(guó)之前常以為美國(guó)的冬天比較冷, 所以夏天一定比較不熱.后來(lái)我才知道真是大錯(cuò)特錯(cuò).美國(guó)東岸夏天的溫度有時(shí)會(huì)超過(guò)華氏 100 度,(相當(dāng)于攝氏 37.8 度), 在這種高溫下人體不能自然散熱, 簡(jiǎn)直就像是火爐一樣.洛基國(guó)際英語(yǔ)
