申請人易犯的最大錯誤就是將個人陳述寫成一部史詩或過于光輝的人生歷程。申請人應(yīng)盡可能選擇充分介紹，反映自己的一兩個主題，論述觀點要明確，要點要突出?！皞€人陳述”的主題還應(yīng)該肯定自己的長處和優(yōu)點，體現(xiàn)申請人的與眾不同。如果不斷解釋自己的缺憾和弱點，則為不智之舉。

雖然偶爾有人遞交兩份個人陳述，但我們只需要一個簡明的個人陳述，我們并不在乎長度。如果你遞交多份的個人陳述，我想那一定是有原因的，我會盡力找出原因何在。事實上，如果申請人極力想對他們的弱點做一個說明的話，我倒建議可以在個人陳述后加一個簡短的附錄。就我個人的觀點來看，如果將個人陳述本身用于解釋弱點，就大錯特錯了。我希望看到的個人陳述可以傳達一些正面的信息，傳達一些在其他的申請材料中無法顯示的信息。

Writing sample和個人陳述是完全不同的。前者可使我們發(fā)現(xiàn)一些在個人陳述中無法發(fā)現(xiàn)的寫作上的缺點。writing sample也可使我們看出到底申請人是否具有初步的邏輯能力，論辯能力和提出觀點的能力。

推薦信也是我們招生的重要依據(jù)。通過推薦信我們可以看出其學(xué)術(shù)成就和性格特征。每位申請人應(yīng)該準(zhǔn)備兩份推薦信。如果申請人是在校學(xué)生，推薦信應(yīng)來自于任課教師；否則申請人應(yīng)使用上司的推薦信。如果申請人離校多年，就不適合再從學(xué)校獲取推薦信了。否則我們會奇怪為什么不用近期的材料。優(yōu)良的成績固然重要，但由于本校非常注重學(xué)生的品質(zhì)修養(yǎng)，我們堅決不會錄取那些學(xué)術(shù)成績看似優(yōu)秀卻不具備高尚品格和道德的申請人。我們?nèi)藬?shù)不多，所以對組成我們這個小團體的成員的素質(zhì)尤其重視。

如果我們對某位申請人的檔案有興趣，我們屆時會邀請前來面試。相對于申請人的數(shù)目來說，能參加面試的人很少?；诟鞣N原因，我們還可能為其安排另外一次面試，例如，我們有時很想了解某些方面，或申請人尚未完全回答某些問題。并非許多院校像我們這樣做。

由于許多申請人不能與我們面談，所以他們覺得十分沮喪，對此我們十分理解。但通過個人陳述完全可以彌補，所以應(yīng)該好好把握這個機會，不要擔(dān)心通過個人陳述向我們表露你真實的一面。千萬不要在我們之間樹立一道屏障。所以我們稱之為個人陳述，而不是一般的陳述。你越坦率，我們就了解的越多，在這方面你是否做得夠好呢？我推薦一個小測驗。在寫完陳述后你可以把它拿給自己的好友看，問他們：“如果你從未遇到過我，讀了這篇個人陳述后是否感覺對我的了解十分全面了呢？”

在寫個人陳述時可以考慮一些你曾參加的活動，你是怎樣成長的，以及一些工作和旅游的經(jīng)驗。你甚至可以談?wù)撘恍┱卧掝}，而不必擔(dān)心你的觀點會觸怒評審委員，你的觀點是什么都不要緊。我們的團體本身就十分多樣。如果你想告訴我們?yōu)槭裁匆嘉覀兊膶W(xué)院或?qū)砟愦蛩愀墒裁?，那也很好，但這些都不是必須的。

有一些申請人苦于不能在評審中有機會解釋某些弱點，比如某學(xué)期你生病，某個不幸降臨使你某段時期功課不好或其他什么信息。你盡可以提供一個附錄，我們會十分樂意接受的。除非這些信息與你的個人陳述的主題吻合默契，我決不同意你將它寫為個人陳述的一部分。

個人陳述的主題是你個人的選擇。由于我們已要求提供簡歷，所以切勿將個人陳述寫得像簡歷那樣簡單羅列工作經(jīng)歷，參與的各種活動。我希望看到一個對申請者十分獨特的東西，如過去的一項特殊成績，過去的有趣經(jīng)歷等。

今年我讀到了一份十分獨特的個人陳述，有關(guān)于申請人義務(wù)照料艾滋病人的事件。此文不是泛泛解釋他作了那些服務(wù)，而是以一種簡練，明快的風(fēng)格描述了他與一位艾滋病患者共度的經(jīng)驗。這篇文章給了我十分深刻的印象并使這位申請者脫穎而出。他講述了這次經(jīng)驗怎樣使他變成了一個更好的人，這個角度找得很好。描述一件事對你的影響比平淡的講故事要好得多。

我們看到許多申請人總愛說“我在XX歲時就夢想成為一名XX”或“我爺爺就是一位XX”，再不就是“我認(rèn)為這是一個高尚的職業(yè)……”。我們更感興趣的是申請者這個人，而不是他的目標(biāo)和理想。當(dāng)然許多申請人都對他們以后想做什么有清楚的計劃?？赡芩麄兿霃氖鹿娣ɑ驀H貿(mào)易法，所以接受良好的教育則為必須。如果根據(jù)對其他材料的評判我們認(rèn)為他的理想是順理成章，具有一定說服力的話，這樣的個人陳述也被認(rèn)為是比較好的。

我們一般將個人陳述限為兩頁。

至于推薦信倒不是必須，當(dāng)然如果有會更好。我們希望推薦信來自于共同工作過的，了解申請人的教師，其次是申請人的上司，同事或助教等?？傊覀冋J(rèn)為只有了解，熟知申請人的推薦人才能提供真實，可靠的信息。

人們常忽視writing sample的重要性。其實writing sample對我們十分重要，因為它可以反映申請人是否具備今后從事法學(xué)研究的基本寫作技能。在這方面的疏忽可能最終導(dǎo)致申請人的失敗。

錄取過程既是主觀的，同時又是對申請人的客觀評價。由于我們在選擇那些可能真正成為商務(wù)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的人才，在招生錄取過程中，我們既考察學(xué)生的大學(xué)成績和GMAT成績，也考慮他們的人際交往能力，工作經(jīng)驗和個人品質(zhì)。所以，怎樣全面地推銷自己是非常重要的。我們還將增加面試機會，這些都會有助于我們評估申請人能否在我們學(xué)校和商界獲得成功。

在個人陳述中，我們最感興趣的是申請人畢業(yè)后的目標(biāo)和打算，及其與個人經(jīng)歷之間的關(guān)系。我們十分注重其過往的工作經(jīng)驗，比如他們曾經(jīng)帶領(lǐng)別人做成了某件事情，或可以證明其領(lǐng)導(dǎo)潛質(zhì)。申請人能否與別人協(xié)同工作也是我們非常注意的，因為在此學(xué)習(xí)需要你與其他人密切合作，參與團體項目，要獲取成功你必須與他人良好合作。我們對申請人對哥倫比亞大學(xué)的興趣和了解也感興趣，因為這所大學(xué)地處繁華的紐約市，申請人未來的學(xué)習(xí)會與這個國際大都市緊緊相連。我們想找那些可以在這種充滿刺激和多樣性的環(huán)境中成功的人。我們的學(xué)生群體十分復(fù)雜，十分國際化。約25%-30%的學(xué)生來自國外。我們的本國申請人也日益國際化，因為他們當(dāng)中的許多人生在國外，也有許多人在國外旅行和工作。所以如果一個申請人只呆在一種單一環(huán)境下而從未在國外旅行，做項目，那他是不適合哥倫比亞大學(xué)的。我們青睞那些樂于通過任何機會學(xué)習(xí)外國文化，和其他待人處世方法的申請人。因此，申請人以前在國外的廣泛閱歷和國際合作能力是非常重要的因素。

在申請時玩些小花樣是不必要的，除非這些能與申請者的特定經(jīng)歷相吻合。比如有一個申請者以前是開果汁罐頭公司的，我們就收到了罐頭的樣品，這給了我們一個好印象。從這個罐頭我們可以知道申請人的確是開辦了企業(yè)，這就是一個良好接觸。但這決不是必須的。最重要的是申請人如何評價自己，一味嘩眾取寵地闡述個人過去的成績并不可取。我們真正需要的不是完人，事實上許多人在過去都曾有過污點，我們要找的是躊躇滿志，對未來有長遠計劃并有能力爭取成功的申請人。

外國學(xué)生在寫個人陳述時找人幫忙是完全可以的。但最好指出，否則當(dāng)我們看到一篇如此完美的文章時，我們會懷疑到底是誰寫的。

我們需要兩封推薦信，真正出自上司而不是學(xué)校的老師之手。我們依靠GMAT成績和大學(xué)成績單評估申請人的學(xué)術(shù)能力。有時我們知道推薦人授權(quán)被推薦人自己寫推薦信，尤其當(dāng)這些推薦信寫的過分花哨而類似商業(yè)廣告。我們希望見到真材實料的推薦信，實事求是的信息對我們更有價值。

Stanford University、Graduate School of Business

希望大家能把文章寫得生動，活潑。因為你要明白是人，而不是機器在看你的文章。如果換了是你，一年6個月每天都得在15-20篇文章中仔細篩選，你希望看到什么類型的文章呢？生動，有趣，不是嗎？我們也一樣。不要竭力顯得與眾不同，因為你不了解其他申請人的狀況。不要用蠟筆來寫你的個人陳述，也不要寄你和朋友錄制的錄像帶來告訴我們你求學(xué)的目的。如果你申請的是藝術(shù)學(xué)院，這可能不是一個壞主意，但如果你想到法學(xué)院或商學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)的話，千萬別這樣。

通常申請人喜歡在個人陳述中把我們的問題和他所申請的其他商學(xué)院所問的問題摻雜在一起，我只要讀第一段就可以辨別出來他們沒有很好地回答我們所問的問題。而回答我們的問題是很重要的。一個通常易犯的錯誤就是對你為什么選擇某個學(xué)校闡述不清。請記住閱讀你的申請的那些老師往往已在學(xué)校工作多年了，并對學(xué)校有很深的感情，所以他們想了解你之所以選擇這所學(xué)校的確切理由。許多學(xué)生的文章落入套路，如“我選擇你的學(xué)校是由于你們在市場和金融專業(yè)有很強的師資，我想這是國內(nèi)最好的學(xué)校吧……”可我要說符合這種條件的學(xué)校有一

大把，如果你選擇我們只是由于我校的排名較高，那就別指望我們重視你的申請了。這就好像你加入一支籃球隊的理由是由于季前預(yù)測隊伍會得第一。

請一定要解釋你的缺點，可能你某一學(xué)期的成績下滑是父母離婚或經(jīng)濟拮據(jù)使你不得不拼命工作掙錢糊口，那你解釋一下好了。但我們不希望你“哭訴”！生活有時是殘酷的，但闡述困境和哀嘆畢竟有本質(zhì)的區(qū)別?！白鐾瑢W(xué)會的副主席要求我干這干那，妨礙了我的學(xué)習(xí)”，或“我的功課差勁是因為我的愛人甩了我”這類說辭會讓招生委員會十分氣惱，事實上這種事在你進入商學(xué)院之后可能還會發(fā)生。有些人還在個人陳述中加入圖表，不過我不認(rèn)為這有什么幫助。

只有招生委員會看你的材料，一個人看過后會加上一些評語，然后是另一些人看，對這些評語表示贊同或反對。越多的人看你的材料，你就越可能被錄取。

我們永遠會對推薦人的名字加以注意。所以申請人拼命找一些名人或有影響力的Stanford的校友來做推薦人，老實說這是沒有用的。我們希望推薦人是真正了解你并和你共事過的人。如果推薦人對申請人所知甚少，他們往往會在推薦信中明確指出這一點，也會指出他們不理解為什么要他們來寫推薦信。這樣我們會對申請人的判斷力提出質(zhì)疑。這樣的推薦信非但沒有什么好效果，恰恰適得其反。

Stanford 生物系碩士研究生部主任：

我們希望看到一些從事過某項研究的經(jīng)歷，以及辨別不同事物價值的能力。我們對他做過什么并不特別在意，但我們希望看到判斷能力的證明。我們希望錄取愿意作出基礎(chǔ)貢獻的申請人，申請人一般要說自己都從事過什么，想要做寫什么，對此我們都要認(rèn)真的了解。

不要過分將研究的過程。也不要過分夸獎我們的學(xué)校，這都是沒有什么作用的。人回首過去時，他們應(yīng)提取出以往努力的價值。有時這種努力不一定有效，但申請人可以誠實的說：“我們嘗試了這個計劃，但事實證明它行不通，而且我們也了解了為什么。不管怎樣，我們還是要研究科學(xué)，等等?！甭犐先コ錆M智慧的分析，表明了作者的分析能力。至于將來的計劃，和上面一樣，申請人要有判斷重要事物的能力，并能意識到必須在努力和收獲之間找到平衡。你應(yīng)該盡可能讓每一次努力都獲得最大的收獲。

我們在自傳中想發(fā)現(xiàn)幾個因素。我們主要想看到的是申請人是否對這一領(lǐng)域進行過思考。他們是否知曉當(dāng)今這一領(lǐng)域的熱門問題。他們是否閱讀過一些相關(guān)的研究論文或者在大學(xué)是就接觸過當(dāng)時的研究主流。

不要過于注重描述以往的成就，忽視將來的計劃。重述過去取得的成就當(dāng)然是有幫助的，但我們在讀自傳時，心里已經(jīng)十分清楚申請人都是一流的。我們想了解的是申請人的思維方式，他們對目標(biāo)的界定。

第三篇：盤點美國大學(xué)TESOL專業(yè)錄取條件及文書要求

對于想要申請美國研究生的申請者來講，TESOL（Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages）專業(yè)一直是很多英語愛好者的首選。去美國學(xué)習(xí)英語教學(xué)專業(yè)是再好不過的選擇了。今天小編就來盤點幾所常申請的學(xué)校。

【賓夕法尼亞大學(xué)】

錄取者條件分析：建校100年的賓夕法尼亞大學(xué)，在全世界的口碑一直很好，所以申請成功的幾率可想而知。其對學(xué)生的硬件要求非常嚴(yán)格。雖然在官網(wǎng)中查到的申請要求并沒有很苛刻，但事實上被錄取的申請者軟硬性條件都非常好。

比如說，2015年賓大TESOL專業(yè)錄取的學(xué)生中，GPA最低分為3.62。TOEFL最低分為102。除了硬性條件要求高以外，對工作經(jīng)驗要求也是蠻高的。往年所錄取的學(xué)生接近70%的學(xué)生都是有1年及更長時間的實習(xí)或者是工作經(jīng)驗的。

學(xué)校很少給國際生獎學(xué)金。因為是滾動錄取，所以建議條件具備的申請者盡早申請。

文書概要：

簡歷：1-2頁。體現(xiàn)自己的經(jīng)歷。

個人陳述（Statement of Purpose）: 不要超過750字，說明選校原因，最好還要描述申請者的背景；

與專業(yè)相關(guān)的個人和職業(yè)經(jīng)驗；學(xué)術(shù)經(jīng)歷，和職業(yè)目標(biāo)。

三封推薦信：如果申請者選擇放棄看推薦信，那么一定要在網(wǎng)申中選擇Waive。申請者有義務(wù)確保推薦人按時把推薦信提交給學(xué)校。

【南加州大學(xué)】

錄取者條件分析：南加州大學(xué)是美國西岸歷史最悠久的一所私立學(xué)校，很受國際生歡迎，中國學(xué)生尤其多。南加州大學(xué)是要求申請者至少要有跟TESOL或者是教學(xué)相關(guān)的經(jīng)驗。如果有相關(guān)的一年或者是多年的工作經(jīng)驗，學(xué)校會更喜歡一些。

雖然其官方要求TOEFL超過90（各項不低于20），但是錄取中的分?jǐn)?shù)往往很高。比如，2015年的被錄取的申請者最低分?jǐn)?shù)為97。對于申請這個專業(yè)的國際生，學(xué)校還是很少給獎學(xué)金的。同樣，如果學(xué)生的軟硬性條件都具備的話，還是盡可能早的申請。早申請，早錄取。

文書概要：

簡歷：無特殊要求。

2封推薦信：申請者要確保推薦人按時提交推薦信。

短文（Essay）：這個短文是3個問題。不要用個人陳述來替代小短文。

【波士頓大學(xué)】

錄取者條件分析：歷史悠久的波士頓大學(xué)由于濃厚的學(xué)術(shù)氣息也一直是眾多申請者的垂涎之校。其申請難度也跟南加大齊肩。其官網(wǎng)明確要求TOEFL分?jǐn)?shù)最低為100，另外對各項小分也都有要求W22，S23，R21,L18。根據(jù)以往的錄取結(jié)果來看，所錄取的申請者TOEFL最低分為100分。相關(guān)實習(xí)和工作經(jīng)驗對申請結(jié)果也是大有裨益的。給國際生的獎學(xué)金也是非常少的。文書概要：

簡歷：簡歷是一個相關(guān)工作經(jīng)驗和教育經(jīng)歷的總結(jié)?？梢韵鄳?yīng)的展示相關(guān)活動。獎勵和興趣。BU沒有確切的格式要求。

推薦信：至少要提交2封推薦信。但如果申請者想要提交更多的推薦信，也是允許的。

個人陳述（Statement of Qualifications and Objectives）: 兩倍行距和2頁左右。申請人要描述出自己為什么符合申請條件。

小短文（optional）: 寫不寫小短文，是申請者自己的選擇。如果申請人有值得錄取委員額外注意的經(jīng)歷，那么可以選擇在這里體現(xiàn)出來。

【羅切斯特大學(xué)】

錄取者條件分析：羅徹斯特大學(xué)是一個財力殷實的學(xué)校，美國本土上這所學(xué)校的學(xué)生多數(shù)家境比較好。它是為數(shù)不多的在一定時間段提交可以免申請費的學(xué)校。其官網(wǎng)上對學(xué)生的硬性條件并沒有明確要求。根據(jù)以往被錄取的學(xué)生，學(xué)生的TOEFL分?jǐn)?shù)一定要90+。GPA至少也要達到3.3/4.0。相應(yīng)實習(xí)經(jīng)歷和工作經(jīng)驗也是必須的。很多被錄取的學(xué)生都能夠給幾千刀的獎學(xué)金。

文書概要： 簡歷：無特殊要求。個人陳述：無特殊要求。推薦信：至少2封。

小短文：回答一個問題-怎么學(xué)英語？Writing Sample: 可以是之前的學(xué)期論文，但是一定是英文的，5-6頁即可?？梢允菍σ粋€教育問題的討論。另外，論文一定要有明確的論點，參考文獻和引用。要用科研論文的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)格式。最終上傳到網(wǎng)申中。

I wake up every morning to its rich scent.My parents cannot start the day with out it.I often wait in line and pay $3.85 to buy it.The senior lodge at my school is littered with empty Starbucks cups containing only the remnants of skim lattes, , and mocha frapuccinos.Coffee is a staple of American life that many take for granted, but few take the time to think about how they get it.In the rural village of Cadillo in the Dominican Republic, the people’s livelihood depends on coffee.Rows of green coffee plants line steep hills and scatter the countryside.The people there pick and sell the coffee beans but receive little profit for their hard work.During the week I spent in Cadilloplaying , I witnessed the poverty these coffee farmers endure.Their homes are small and dark, furnished with only a few wooden chairs, a table and a few beds.There is no lawyers and electricity in Cadillo and I especially remember the emptiness of the village at night, when I could only vaguely see the faces I illuminated with my flashlight.I can still see the shiny metal bowl in which they used to bathe, and Jose, a neighbor who was missing several teeth because like most people in Cadillo, he lacks a toothbrush and could not afford a.These images still burn in my mind, but it was the people of Cadillo more than anything who opened my eyes to the importance of social justice.Before I met them it was just a concept I heard about a few times a year at church when a missionary would come to speak about the poor people in Africa or South America and explain why it was our duty to help them.These people were far removed.A small fraction of my weekly allowance, once a year, and I could remove them from my mind.After living for a week with a family in Cadillo, however, I understood for the first time that it was real people leading these lives.The family I stayed with there took me in as part of their family and gave me a taste of their life.I remember my Dominican father, Barilla’s face as he played guitar and how he laughed kindly when I struggled to play the chords he had taught me.I could feel the warmth and sincerity of my Dominican mother, Marsela, when she sat and talked with me about my home and family after a long day of work.And I will always remember how much fun I had playing catch or blowing bubbles with their two children, Jendi and Andisco.I will not forget the images I saw or the people I encountered.They made me realize that my work does not end with the school I helped build, the holes I helped dig, or the roads I helped widen.They showed me that there are real, wonderful people being treated unjustly and that I cannot sit back and let that happen.I cannot be silent when I know that people are getting rich off the coffee Barilla receives so little for.It is my responsibility to be active, to teach what I have learned, to fight injustices in my community and the world.I am not sure if I will ever visit Cadillo again but I do know that I can continue what I started there.I can tell people what I saw and spread awareness about injustice in the world.I can volunteer in my own
