各位嘉賓、各位同事、各位市民：

Distinguished guests, colleagues, fellow citizens,今日是中華人民共和國(guó)香港特別行政區(qū)成立十三周年的大日子，我很榮幸在這里與各位一同慶祝這具有歷史意義的一天。

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.I am honoured to celebrate this historic occasion with you all.一個(gè)星期前，立法會(huì)剛通過了香港回歸以來其中一項(xiàng)最重要的議案，就是修正二○一二年行政長(zhǎng)官和立法會(huì)的產(chǎn)生辦法，增加民主成分。我亦在兩日前正式同意了有關(guān)的修正。今次政改是標(biāo)志香港的民主發(fā)展向前踏出堅(jiān)實(shí)的一步，向二○一七和二○二○年雙普選目標(biāo)邁進(jìn)。這實(shí)在是香港民主發(fā)展上重要里程碑，更加是許多香港人共同努力的成果，是慶祝香港回歸紀(jì)念的一份最好禮物。

Just a week ago, the Legislative Council passed one of the most important motions since our reunification with the Mainland, that is, the amendments to the methods for selecting the Chief Executive and for forming the Legislative Council in 2012 to make them more democratic.I gave my formal consent to the amendments two days ago.The passage of the political reform package marks a decisive step towards democracy and the goal of universal suffrage in 2017 and 2020.It lays down a milestone in our democratic development and is indeed the result of concerted efforts by many Hong Kong people.It is the best gift as we celebrate our reunification.過去一年充滿機(jī)遇和挑戰(zhàn)。我們克服了金融海嘯帶來的影響，經(jīng)濟(jì)回復(fù)增長(zhǎng)；人類豬流感襲港，我們?nèi)刂埔咔?；去年底我們舉辦東亞運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)，香港運(yùn)動(dòng)員出色的表現(xiàn)令人振奮；經(jīng)濟(jì)上香港與內(nèi)地日漸融合，我們?yōu)橄愀郯盐彰總€(gè)機(jī)會(huì)，包括拓展人民幣業(yè)務(wù)，又和廣東簽訂了「粵港合作框架協(xié)議」，推進(jìn)與廣東的全方位合作。

The past year has been a time of challenges and opportunities.Our economy has picked up following the global financial tsunami.We did our very best to contain the spread of human swine influenza.Our athletes achieved their best ever results in the East Asian Games staged here in Hong Kong at the end of last year.We seized every opportunity arising from our ever-growing

economic integration with the Mainland.For example, we have been expanding renminbi business in Hong Kong and we have signed the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation to enhance collaboration between the two places on all fronts.在我們面前，仍然有很多經(jīng)濟(jì)民生議題需要我們齊心解決。政府會(huì)用心聆聽市民大眾的訴求，令施政更切合市民所需。

Still, there is much work left for us to do in addressing economic and livelihood issues.The Government will listen carefully to the community and respond to the aspirations and the needs of our citizens.早前，我在SOHO區(qū)遇到一位餐廳老板娘。她告訴我管理餐廳的心得，最重要是「用心來做事」。她語(yǔ)重心長(zhǎng)的說話，大大觸動(dòng)了我。她令我更加相信，只要我們每個(gè)人都用心做好每件事，堅(jiān)守崗位，香港的未來是充滿希望的！

The other day, I spoke to a woman who operates a restaurant in SoHo.She told me the key to success in running her business is to “work with one's heart”.Her words touched me.They reinforced my belief that if all of us do every task with all our heart and give our best, we can look forward to a very promising future.現(xiàn)在，請(qǐng)大家和我一起，為香港和國(guó)家更美好的將來而干杯！

THE HONOURABLE DONALD TSANG, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

HONG KONG, CHINA December 2005

First of all, I wish to extend a warm Hong Kong welcome to all of you.Hong Kong, China is deeply honored to be the host of the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization.This week, under this very roof, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enhance the existing international trading environment;to generate wealth on a broader and deeper scale globally;and, most important of all, to help alleviate the pain of poverty for millions of people living in the poorer parts of this world.I am pleased that Hong Kong, China is today at the centre of this admirable enterprise.I cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of the WTO.It is the only international organization that deals with the rules of trade between economies.It is the rules-based forum at which 149 Member Economies negotiate agreements and resolve disputes over trade issues.The WTO is also a powerful force in countering the currents of protectionism and discrimination which are responsible to a large extent for the economic hardship suffered by less wealthy and less well-endowed economies.And, ultimately, the WTO is a key component in the global effort to attain the United Nations' Millennium Goal of Development in tackling the scourge of poverty and hunger.Nor can I over-emphasize the importance of the WTO to Hong Kong.As a small, externally-oriented economy with no natural resources other than a magnificent deep water port, Hong Kong has relied on free trade and an entrepreneurial and hardworking population to transform this once sleepy fishing village into an international and regional business hub.So I urge you to take some time during the next few days, and after the conference if you can, to look around our great city.You will see why President Bill Clinton once described Hong Kong as Exhibit A in the case for global interdependence and its benefits.As a free trader, our support for the multilateral trading system is unconditional.And it goes back a long way.We became a separate Contracting Party to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in 1986.We were a founding Member of the WTO in 1995.Our Membership did not change after reunification in 1997.Indeed, Hong Kong's continued participation in the WTO, and in international trade agreements under the name “Hong Kong, China”, is enshrined in the Basic Law, the constitution of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.We treasure the certainty, protection and benefits that the WTO brings to our economy and community.We offered to host this Sixth WTO Ministerial Conference because we recognized that it would become a key staging post to the successful conclusion of the multilateral trade negotiations under the Doha Development Agenda.We want to play our part in the collective effort to realize the ambitions of the Round.We regard the WTO Members' acceptance of our offer as recognition of our contribution to the multilateral trading system, and an acknowledgement of our competence as a world city in handling whatever challenges that may arise from the Ministerial Conference.We in Hong Kong are determined to make this important event a success.Secretary John Tsang is committed to creating an environment of comfort for all delegates to conduct negotiations freely, frankly and constructively in the coming days.He has traveled the globe taking part in many of the key meetings which have paved the way for the negotiations that will take place over the next few days.Thousands of men and women in our communityhave been working tirelessly since the WTO accepted our offer to host this Conference two years ago.We have a common objective: we want to stage a Conference that is well organized, transparent, inclusive, and above all, efficient.The fruits of this community-wide endeavor are now before you.Ladies and gentlemen, we are at an historic juncture.Trade liberalization and economic growth is a permanent goal for all of us as WTO Members.While I acknowledge that in some parts of the world this goal is seen as a threat rather than an opportunity, the negotiations under the Doha Development Agenda must press ahead.We must vigorously defend the integrity and effectiveness of the multilateral trading system.This Conference is a golden opportunity for us to demonstrate our collective resolve to improve the lives of peoples throughout the world through progressive trade liberalization.That is what we committed ourselves to do when the Round was launched four years ago in Doha.This week, all eyes are on Hong Kong.As host and Chair of the Conference, we will do our utmost to bring about a successful outcome.But we cannot do it ourselves.We are relying on your support and commitment to accomplish this mission.I am sure it will be forthcoming.參考譯文：

世貿(mào)對(duì)全球極具重要性。世貿(mào)是處理全球貿(mào)易規(guī)則的唯一國(guó)際組織，它讓149個(gè)成員得以根據(jù)既定規(guī)則商討貿(mào)易協(xié)定，解決貿(mào)易紛爭(zhēng)。

保護(hù)主義和貿(mào)易歧視，往往導(dǎo)致較貧窮、較弱勢(shì)地區(qū)陷入經(jīng)濟(jì)困境，而世貿(mào)是對(duì)抗保護(hù)主義和貿(mào)易歧視的主要力量。世貿(mào)最終更是全球合力消除貧窮饑餓，達(dá)至聯(lián)合國(guó)千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)的力量。

世貿(mào)對(duì)香港的重要性不容置疑。香港地方細(xì)小，屬外向型經(jīng)濟(jì)體系，除了擁有一個(gè)優(yōu)良的深水港外，別無其他天然資源。全憑積極發(fā)展自由貿(mào)易，以及港人的奮勇拼搏、勤勉進(jìn)取，這個(gè)昔日的小漁村，才能蛻變成為今天的國(guó)際及區(qū)域商貿(mào)樞紐。

因此，我請(qǐng)各位在未來數(shù)天及在會(huì)議之後，抽點(diǎn)時(shí)間看看我們這個(gè)亞洲國(guó)際都會(huì)，這樣你們便會(huì)明白，為甚麼克林頓總統(tǒng)說，香港是全球互補(bǔ)互惠，益處無窮的明證。

香港作為貿(mào)易自由的先驅(qū)，毫無保留地支持多邊貿(mào)易制度。早在一九八六年，香港成為關(guān)貿(mào)總協(xié)定的獨(dú)立締約地區(qū)，一九九五年香港成為世貿(mào)創(chuàng)辦成員之一。一九九七年回歸中國(guó)後，香港的成員身分絲毫沒有改變，繼續(xù)以「中國(guó)香港」名義參與世貿(mào)事務(wù)及簽訂國(guó)際貿(mào)易協(xié)定，這已一一寫入香港特別行政區(qū)的憲法《基本法》內(nèi)。我們十分珍視世貿(mào)為香港的經(jīng)濟(jì)和社會(huì)帶來的可靠環(huán)境、穩(wěn)妥保護(hù)等種種好處。

香港申請(qǐng)主辦世貿(mào)第六次部長(zhǎng)級(jí)會(huì)議，是因?yàn)槲覀兩钪?，這次會(huì)議對(duì)多哈發(fā)展議程的多邊貿(mào)易談判能否取得圓滿結(jié)果，起關(guān)鍵作用。香港希望能夠盡一分力，與各國(guó)合力實(shí)現(xiàn)這回合的理想目標(biāo)。世貿(mào)成員接納我們的主辦申請(qǐng)，顯示他們認(rèn)同香港對(duì)多邊貿(mào)易制度的貢獻(xiàn)，并確信香港這個(gè)國(guó)際都會(huì)具備能力，能夠處理部長(zhǎng)級(jí)會(huì)議帶來種種的挑戰(zhàn)。

全港市民同心合力，決心把這個(gè)盛會(huì)辦好。曾俊華局長(zhǎng)全力創(chuàng)造有利環(huán)境，讓各地代表未來數(shù)天能夠在自由坦誠(chéng)的氣氛下，進(jìn)行有建設(shè)性的談判。他跑遍世界各地出席多個(gè)重要會(huì)議，為未來數(shù)天的談判作充分準(zhǔn)備。

自從世貿(mào)兩年前接納香港為這次會(huì)議的主辦城市後，香港社會(huì)各界人士包括公務(wù)員、立法會(huì)議員、區(qū)議員、非政府組織成員、商界領(lǐng)袖、服務(wù)供應(yīng)商、志愿工作者以至普羅市民，就一直努力不懈，矢志達(dá)到一個(gè)共同目標(biāo)，就是把會(huì)議辦得井然有序，讓會(huì)議可以在公開、包容的氣氛下有效率地進(jìn)行。香港全體市民的努力成果，今天就開始呈現(xiàn)在各位眼前。

各位，我們正處?kù)稓v史時(shí)刻。自由貿(mào)易和經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展，是我們作為世貿(mào)成員的恒常目標(biāo)。我知道，世界有些地方視這目標(biāo)為威脅多於機(jī)遇，但我們必須全力推進(jìn)多哈發(fā)展議程的貿(mào)易談判。我們必須奮力確保多邊貿(mào)易制度保持健全及具成效。

這個(gè)會(huì)議提供了一個(gè)黃金機(jī)會(huì)，讓我們一同展示決心，通過進(jìn)一步的貿(mào)易自由化，繼續(xù)改善各地人民的生活。這是四年前我們展開多哈回合談判時(shí)，立意要達(dá)到的工作目標(biāo)。

演講會(huì)開始前，北京大學(xué)校務(wù)委員會(huì)主任閔維方教授首先致歡迎辭。他在致辭中回顧了北大與香港社會(huì)各界密切交流的歷史，介紹了北大與香港大學(xué)、香港中文大學(xué)、香港理工大學(xué)等知名大學(xué)共同開展的聯(lián)合科研與人才培養(yǎng)項(xiàng)目。他指出，近年來，北大在培養(yǎng)愛國(guó)愛港的香港優(yōu)秀人才方面成績(jī)斐然。目前，共有224名香港學(xué)生在北大學(xué)習(xí)。此外，北大還為香港培訓(xùn)了1000多名香港特區(qū)政府各級(jí)各類公務(wù)員。而北大自身的發(fā)展，也得到香港社會(huì)各界人士的大力支持。他表示，曾蔭權(quán)先生此次來訪，將成為內(nèi)地與香港教育交流的一個(gè)里程碑。

北大師生用熱烈的掌聲迎來曾蔭權(quán)先生發(fā)表講演。一身筆挺的西裝配上經(jīng)典的淡藍(lán)色蝴蝶結(jié)，曾蔭權(quán)用他那略帶港腔的普通話開始了他的演講——《香港在國(guó)家未來現(xiàn)代化發(fā)展的角色》?！拔覀兘?jīng)歷過屈辱和挫敗，但意志彌堅(jiān)。經(jīng)過幾代人的奮斗，特別是最近三十年的努力，我們終于迎來了中華民族的偉大復(fù)興?！痹a權(quán)認(rèn)為，國(guó)家當(dāng)今、以至未來十年、三十年，最需要的仍然是現(xiàn)代化發(fā)展，仍然是提高人民的生活水平，提高國(guó)家的國(guó)際地位。在這個(gè)過程中，北大學(xué)子作為知識(shí)精英，香港作為中國(guó)最國(guó)際化的城市，都將繼續(xù)為國(guó)家發(fā)展肩負(fù)重任。

“十二五”期間，中國(guó)將進(jìn)一步加快現(xiàn)代化發(fā)展的進(jìn)程，曾蔭權(quán)認(rèn)為，香港應(yīng)該把握這一歷史機(jī)遇，充分發(fā)揮自身優(yōu)勢(shì)，與內(nèi)地協(xié)調(diào)配合，在人民幣國(guó)際化和國(guó)家城鎮(zhèn)化方面做出自己的貢獻(xiàn)。他指出，在國(guó)際金融市場(chǎng)緩步復(fù)蘇的情況下，國(guó)家金融政策的重點(diǎn)是提高人民幣在跨境貿(mào)易與投資中的作用，降低對(duì)美元的依賴，這不僅有利于加強(qiáng)亞洲區(qū)域內(nèi)的貿(mào)易合作，同時(shí)有助于提升中國(guó)在國(guó)際金融領(lǐng)域的地位。香港作為背靠?jī)?nèi)地、面向境外的金融中心，擁有制度環(huán)境優(yōu)越、資本自由流動(dòng)、市場(chǎng)運(yùn)作透明高效、人才與機(jī)構(gòu)高度國(guó)際化等一系列優(yōu)勢(shì)，正好能化解國(guó)家在“走出去”過程所遇到的困難，發(fā)揮“試驗(yàn)場(chǎng)”的角色，為國(guó)家金融戰(zhàn)略部署提供重要支持，實(shí)現(xiàn)國(guó)內(nèi)國(guó)際貿(mào)易的“無縫接軌”。

曾蔭權(quán)在演講中指出，中國(guó)內(nèi)地的城市化程度還有很大的提升空間。目前，國(guó)家將加快城市化進(jìn)程列入提升內(nèi)部需求，調(diào)整經(jīng)濟(jì)結(jié)構(gòu)的重要發(fā)展藍(lán)圖。但城市化是一把“雙刃劍”，不當(dāng)?shù)某鞘谢鶐淼那终监l(xiāng)村用地、影響糧食安全等問題，也困擾著許多發(fā)展中國(guó)家。曾蔭權(quán)強(qiáng)調(diào)，香港城市化的歷史經(jīng)驗(yàn)表明，通過謹(jǐn)慎的部署、周密的規(guī)劃，能夠有效地處理以上問題，實(shí)現(xiàn)城市與鄉(xiāng)村、建筑與人之間的良性互動(dòng)。而香港令世界贊譽(yù)的公共交通與城市綠化等城市建設(shè)經(jīng)驗(yàn)，可以參與到內(nèi)地的城市建設(shè)中，例如“北大東門的北京4號(hào)線，由港鐵公司與北京合作，是按照港鐵的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和管理營(yíng)運(yùn)的范例。”另外他表示，通過投資以及競(jìng)爭(zhēng)方式，香港都可以帶動(dòng)內(nèi)地相關(guān)地區(qū)和產(chǎn)業(yè)的發(fā)展。

演講最后，曾蔭權(quán)表示，香港是中西文化薈萃之地，也是連接?xùn)|亞和東南亞的樞紐，香港將致力于在“十二五”期間為國(guó)家現(xiàn)代化做出更大貢獻(xiàn)。他也歡迎北大的同學(xué)畢業(yè)后到香港一展才華，為國(guó)家現(xiàn)代化做出獨(dú)特的貢獻(xiàn)。

首先，熱烈歡迎各位蒞臨香港。中國(guó)香港得以主辦世界貿(mào)易組織第六次部長(zhǎng)級(jí)會(huì)議，深感榮幸。

這個(gè)星期，我們有一個(gè)非常難得的機(jī)會(huì)，共聚一堂，優(yōu)化現(xiàn)有的國(guó)際貿(mào)易環(huán)境；為全球各地更廣泛地創(chuàng)造財(cái)富；而最重要的，是幫助貧困地區(qū)數(shù)以億計(jì)的人民脫離貧窮。我很高興中國(guó)香港今天能牽頭肩負(fù)這項(xiàng)崇高任務(wù)。

世貿(mào)對(duì)全球極具重要性。世貿(mào)是處理全球貿(mào)易規(guī)則的唯一國(guó)際組織，它讓149個(gè)成員得以根據(jù)既定規(guī)則商討貿(mào)易協(xié)定，解決貿(mào)易紛爭(zhēng)。

保護(hù)主義和貿(mào)易歧視，往往導(dǎo)致較貧窮、較弱勢(shì)地區(qū)陷入經(jīng)濟(jì)困境，而世貿(mào)是對(duì)抗保護(hù)主義和貿(mào)易歧視的主要力量。世貿(mào)最終更是全球合力消除貧窮飢餓，達(dá)至聯(lián)合國(guó)千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)的力量。

世貿(mào)對(duì)香港的重要性不容置疑。香港地方細(xì)小，屬外向型經(jīng)濟(jì)體系，除了擁有一個(gè)優(yōu)良的深水港外，別無其他天然資源。全憑積極發(fā)展自由貿(mào)易，以及港人的奮勇拼搏、勤勉進(jìn)取，這個(gè)昔日的小漁村，才能蛻變成為今天的國(guó)際及區(qū)域商貿(mào)樞紐。

因此，我請(qǐng)各位在未來數(shù)天及在會(huì)議之後，抽點(diǎn)時(shí)間看看我們這個(gè)亞洲國(guó)際都會(huì)，這樣你們便會(huì)明白，為甚麼克林頓總統(tǒng)說，香港是全球互補(bǔ)互惠，益處無窮的明證。

香港作為貿(mào)易自由的先驅(qū)，毫無保留地支持多邊貿(mào)易制度。早在一九八六年，香港成為關(guān)貿(mào)總協(xié)定的獨(dú)立締約地區(qū)，一九九五年香港成為世貿(mào)創(chuàng)辦成員之一。一九九七年回歸中國(guó)後，香港的成員身分絲毫沒有改變，繼續(xù)以「中國(guó)香港」名義參與世貿(mào)事務(wù)及簽訂國(guó)際貿(mào)易協(xié)定，這已一一寫入香港特別行政區(qū)的憲法《基本法》內(nèi)。我們十分珍視世貿(mào)為香港的經(jīng)濟(jì)和社會(huì)帶來的可靠環(huán)境、穩(wěn)妥保護(hù)等種種好處。

香港申請(qǐng)主辦世貿(mào)第六次部長(zhǎng)級(jí)會(huì)議，是因?yàn)槲覀兩钪?，這次會(huì)議對(duì)多哈發(fā)展議程的多邊貿(mào)易談判能否取得圓滿結(jié)果，起關(guān)鍵作用。香港希望能夠盡一分力，與各國(guó)合力實(shí)現(xiàn)這回合的理想目標(biāo)。世貿(mào)成員接納我們的主辦申請(qǐng)，顯示他們認(rèn)同香港對(duì)多邊貿(mào)易制度的貢獻(xiàn)，並確信香港這個(gè)國(guó)際都會(huì)具備能力，能夠處理部長(zhǎng)級(jí)會(huì)議帶來種種的挑戰(zhàn)。

全港市民同心合力，決心把這個(gè)盛會(huì)辦好。曾俊華局長(zhǎng)全力創(chuàng)造有利環(huán)境，讓各地代表未來數(shù)天能夠在自由坦誠(chéng)的氣氛下，進(jìn)行有建設(shè)性的談判。他跑遍世界各地出席多個(gè)重要會(huì)議，為未來數(shù)天的談判作充分準(zhǔn)備。

自從世貿(mào)兩年前接納香港為這次會(huì)議的主辦城市後，香港社會(huì)各界人士包括公務(wù)員、立法會(huì)議員、區(qū)議員、非政府組織成員、商界領(lǐng)袖、服務(wù)供應(yīng)商、志願(yuàn)工作者以至普羅市民，就一直努力不懈，矢志達(dá)到一個(gè)共同目標(biāo)，就是把會(huì)議辦得井然有序，讓會(huì)議可以在公開、包容的氣氛下有效率地進(jìn)行。香港全體市民的努力成果，今天就開始呈現(xiàn)在各位眼前。

各位，我們正處?kù)稓v史時(shí)刻。自由貿(mào)易和經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展，是我們作為世貿(mào)成員的恒常目標(biāo)。我知道，世界有些地方視這目標(biāo)為威脅多於機(jī)遇，但我們必須全力推進(jìn)多哈發(fā)展議程的貿(mào)易談判。我們必須奮力確保多邊貿(mào)易制度保持健全及具成效。

這個(gè)會(huì)議提供了一個(gè)黃金機(jī)會(huì)，讓我們一同展示決心，通過進(jìn)一步的貿(mào)易自由化，繼續(xù)改善各地人民的生活。這是四年前我們展開多哈回合談判時(shí)，立意要達(dá)到的工作目標(biāo)。

這個(gè)星期，全球注視香港。作為主辦城市，也是會(huì)議主席，我們會(huì)竭盡所能爭(zhēng)取美滿成果。但香港不能獨(dú)力完成這項(xiàng)使命，必須得到各位的支持和承擔(dān)才能達(dá)到目標(biāo)。我深信大家會(huì)樂於為此給予支持和作出承擔(dān)。

Professor Kao is returning to Hong Kong for the first time as a Nobel Laureate.I am delighted that so many of his friends and colleagues are here to welcome him “home” and enjoy this remarkable occasion.Your presence here is a testament to the success of Professor Kao's career and to the respect he commands among his peers and indeed the people of Hong Kong.高教授獲得諾貝爾獎(jiǎng)后首次返港，我很高興有這么多朋友和同事來這里歡迎高教授回家并享受這難得的時(shí)刻。你們的出席是高教授事業(yè)成功的明證，也是他獲得同輩乃至全香港人民尊敬的明證。

The title of this exhibition: “The Lore of a Laureate: A Tribute to Charles Kao, Former CUHK Vice-Chancellor and Nobel Laureate” is appropriate and inspiring.這次展覽取名為“桂冠學(xué)人返故園 中大前校長(zhǎng)兼諾貝爾獎(jiǎng)得主高錕教授成就展”是恰如其分，鼓舞人心的。

I first came to know Professor Kao when he joined Chinese University as the Vice-Chancellor in 1987.He won the respect of colleagues and students alike by keeping the channels of communication open, promoting academic freedom and building the institution's strengths as a research-oriented university.The University made great strides during Professor Kao's nine-year tenure thanks to his unswerving commitment to education.我第一次認(rèn)識(shí)高教授是在1987年他到中大當(dāng)校長(zhǎng)的時(shí)候。因?yàn)楦呓淌诒兄_通交流渠道，推動(dòng)學(xué)術(shù)自由，建設(shè)研究型大學(xué)的理念而贏得同事和學(xué)生的尊敬。由于高教授對(duì)教育執(zhí)著的奉獻(xiàn)，學(xué)校在他任職的九年內(nèi)飛速發(fā)展。

Today, Professor Kao's reputation extends way beyond that of professor or even vice-chancellor.He has been internationally renowned as the “Father of Fibre Optics” and is now a Nobel Laureate.His work has fundamentally transformed lives and the way we learn, play, communicate and conduct business.今天，高教授的聲名遠(yuǎn)超他作為教授乃至校長(zhǎng)的頭銜。他一直是享譽(yù)國(guó)際的光纖之父，而今他還是諾貝爾獎(jiǎng)得主。他的工作成果從根本上改變了我們的生活，改變了我們學(xué)習(xí)、娛樂、交流、做生意的方式。
