摘要:商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電是開展對(duì)外貿(mào)易及有關(guān)商務(wù)活動(dòng)的基礎(chǔ)和工具,然而學(xué)生的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作水平卻不夠理想。本文以哈桑的語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論為基礎(chǔ),闡述了在該理論指導(dǎo)下的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)過(guò)程,旨在通過(guò)語(yǔ)類分析幫助學(xué)生解讀商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電語(yǔ)篇的同時(shí),探索出提高學(xué)生商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作能力的有效途徑。

引言
中國(guó)加入WTO后,對(duì)外貿(mào)易活動(dòng)日趨頻繁。商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電作為國(guó)際貿(mào)易活動(dòng)的重要載體,是國(guó)際商務(wù)往來(lái)最為經(jīng)常使用的聯(lián)系方式,也是開展對(duì)外貿(mào)易及有關(guān)商務(wù)活動(dòng)的基礎(chǔ)和工具,然而學(xué)生的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作水平卻不夠理想。許多研究者已經(jīng)意識(shí)到這一點(diǎn),他們探討了商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)存在的問(wèn)題,提出了提高教學(xué)效果的建議[1-4]。但是這些研究卻忽略了語(yǔ)類理論對(duì)商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作的影響。
商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電是在商務(wù)環(huán)境中應(yīng)用的英語(yǔ),屬于專門用途英語(yǔ)(ESP)范疇,它是一種特別的語(yǔ)體,強(qiáng)調(diào)的是在特定環(huán)境下的特種交際目的,是英語(yǔ)寫作與外貿(mào)實(shí)務(wù)相結(jié)合的一門綜合性學(xué)科。語(yǔ)類分析從商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電的交際目的入手, 分析內(nèi)容的框架結(jié)構(gòu)、主要語(yǔ)氣以及基本語(yǔ)言技巧的使用。所以以語(yǔ)類為基礎(chǔ)的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)強(qiáng)調(diào)提高學(xué)習(xí)者對(duì)與語(yǔ)類密切相關(guān)的社會(huì)語(yǔ)境和語(yǔ)言特征的認(rèn)識(shí)。本文以哈桑的語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論為基礎(chǔ),闡述了在該理論指導(dǎo)下的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué),旨在通過(guò)語(yǔ)類分析幫助學(xué)生解讀商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電語(yǔ)篇的同時(shí),探索出提高學(xué)生商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作能力有效途徑。
一、語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論和語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法
語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論是由哈桑[5]提出的,她認(rèn)為語(yǔ)言的使用受到情景語(yǔ)境中語(yǔ)場(chǎng)、語(yǔ)旨和語(yǔ)式三個(gè)變量的影響,并用語(yǔ)境配置(contextual configuration)來(lái)概括這3個(gè)變量。她提出語(yǔ)篇的類型受制于語(yǔ)境配置,每個(gè)語(yǔ)境配置都是“一組實(shí)現(xiàn)語(yǔ)場(chǎng)、語(yǔ)旨、語(yǔ)式的值” [5]。她將這三個(gè)變量的含義具體解釋為:語(yǔ)場(chǎng)是交際過(guò)程中實(shí)際發(fā)生的事件,語(yǔ)旨是參與者的身份及他們之間的關(guān)系,語(yǔ)式是語(yǔ)言交際的渠道或媒介。這三種變量決定語(yǔ)言的三種意義類型, 即語(yǔ)場(chǎng)決定語(yǔ)言的概念意義, 語(yǔ)旨決定語(yǔ)言的人際意義,語(yǔ)式?jīng)Q定語(yǔ)言的謀篇意義。因此,哈桑認(rèn)為:語(yǔ)境配置在很大程度上確定語(yǔ)篇結(jié)構(gòu),可以預(yù)測(cè)語(yǔ)篇結(jié)構(gòu)的必要成分和可選成分, 各種成分的排序及成分的再現(xiàn)。必要成分規(guī)定了語(yǔ)類的框架, 能使人們識(shí)別不同語(yǔ)類之間的差異, 可選成分則允許語(yǔ)言使用者在特定的語(yǔ)類框架中變換語(yǔ)言形式。一個(gè)語(yǔ)篇究竟屬于什么語(yǔ)類,往往是由結(jié)構(gòu)的必要成分來(lái)定義的。而包含了某一語(yǔ)類所有的必要成分的結(jié)構(gòu)表達(dá)式被稱為該語(yǔ)類的“結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)”。對(duì)于在語(yǔ)言使用過(guò)程中出現(xiàn)的各種語(yǔ)類, Hasan認(rèn)為它們是通過(guò)語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)來(lái)實(shí)現(xiàn)的, 是特定情景下形成的語(yǔ)境配置3個(gè)變量具體體現(xiàn), 它包含某種語(yǔ)類中可能出現(xiàn)的所有的語(yǔ)篇模式和語(yǔ)篇結(jié)構(gòu)。
在上述理論指導(dǎo)下,出現(xiàn)了以語(yǔ)類為基礎(chǔ)的語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法, 又稱體裁教學(xué)法, 盛行于以英語(yǔ)為母語(yǔ)的一些國(guó)家如美國(guó)和澳大利亞等。“語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法”建立在語(yǔ)篇的語(yǔ)類分析上,教師把語(yǔ)類和語(yǔ)類分析理論自覺(jué)地運(yùn)用到課堂教學(xué)中,圍繞語(yǔ)篇的結(jié)構(gòu)開展活動(dòng),其目的是引導(dǎo)學(xué)生掌握語(yǔ)篇的語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì),從而幫助學(xué)生理解和撰寫屬于某一語(yǔ)類的語(yǔ)篇。
二、學(xué)生商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作中的問(wèn)題
作為商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電課程的任課教師, 筆者發(fā)現(xiàn)除了語(yǔ)法和用詞錯(cuò)誤之外, 學(xué)生在商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作技能方面有以下問(wèn)題:
(一)不了解商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電的篇章結(jié)構(gòu)。如在傳遞不愉快信息時(shí),商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電的語(yǔ)篇層次一般包括5個(gè)部分:
1、neutral statement;
2、reasons;
3、refusal;
4、alternative, if possible;
5、goodwill ending。但是很多學(xué)生都忽略了中立態(tài)度這一步,將不好的消息置于開頭部分。而這類信函的開頭部分,語(yǔ)氣必須盡量緩和, 不能太直率。雙方都樂(lè)于接受的中立態(tài)度可以起到緩沖的作用, 即減輕不愉快消息帶來(lái)的壓力和打擊,讓讀者有心情讀去,這也是國(guó)際貿(mào)易人員語(yǔ)篇社團(tuán)的一般規(guī)范。因此如果按“直接方式”組織語(yǔ)篇,會(huì)顯得太過(guò)直接,容易傷害對(duì)方的感情, 從而影響雙方的交際。
(二)沒(méi)有掌握特定情景中的語(yǔ)言功能。在表達(dá)拒絕對(duì)方這一功能時(shí),不少學(xué)生直接一口回絕,不留一點(diǎn)余地。如“We are not able to give you the offer as requested”, 這種消極、否定的陳述會(huì)使對(duì)方往壞的方面聯(lián)想。如果改用更符合國(guó)際貿(mào)易語(yǔ)篇規(guī)范的語(yǔ)言來(lái)表達(dá)這一功能: “Although we are not able to give you the offer as requested, we will contact you as soon as new supplies reach us”, 把拒絕的消息置于although引導(dǎo)的讓步從句中,將收信人的注意力引向主句—今后的合作,就能顧及對(duì)方的面子,使得話語(yǔ)的回旋余地增加,表示尚有機(jī)會(huì)今后再合作。
綜上所述,學(xué)生在商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作中出現(xiàn)的問(wèn)題實(shí)質(zhì)上是對(duì)國(guó)際貿(mào)易語(yǔ)篇社團(tuán)的種種語(yǔ)言規(guī)范不夠了解,而這恰恰與語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)密切相關(guān)。在商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)中,運(yùn)用語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法可以幫助學(xué)生了解商務(wù)函電的社會(huì)功能和交際目的,了解其語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì),從而更好地理解和創(chuàng)作符合特定語(yǔ)類慣例的商務(wù)函電。
三、語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論指導(dǎo)下的商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)
針對(duì)上述問(wèn)題,筆者在商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)中采用以語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論為基礎(chǔ)的語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法。下面以建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系信函為例,闡述教學(xué)實(shí)施步驟。
(一)分組:將全班學(xué)生分成若干個(gè)小組, 每組由4—5名學(xué)生組成,每組指定一個(gè)組長(zhǎng)。小組成員在完成任務(wù)的過(guò)程中互相協(xié)作,商討意見,解決問(wèn)題,共同實(shí)現(xiàn)小組目標(biāo)。這樣可以使小組成員互相學(xué)習(xí),共同提高。
(二)情景導(dǎo)入: 將我國(guó)某出口公司的大致情況介紹給學(xué)生,然后由學(xué)生自主瀏覽該公司的網(wǎng)頁(yè),收集網(wǎng)頁(yè)中有價(jià)值的信息(主要是公司概況、產(chǎn)品種類和銷售情況),再利用google 搜索引擎查找國(guó)外相關(guān)產(chǎn)品的進(jìn)口商,進(jìn)而以國(guó)內(nèi)出口公司業(yè)務(wù)員的名義模擬給其寫信,期望與之建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系。這一階段的目的是激發(fā)學(xué)生對(duì)任務(wù)的關(guān)注,使學(xué)生一開始就處于一種主動(dòng)、積極的情景氛圍中,從而產(chǎn)生寫作的渴望。
(三)情景寫作:要求學(xué)生根據(jù)上階段查找的進(jìn)口商相關(guān)信息,在十五分鐘內(nèi)隨堂寫一封建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系信函, 教師不做任何指導(dǎo), 不提供范文,讓學(xué)生按自己的設(shè)計(jì)進(jìn)行寫作。這一階段各小組成員首先獨(dú)立思考,然后在小組內(nèi)就措詞用句、結(jié)構(gòu)安排、內(nèi)容細(xì)節(jié)等方面的問(wèn)題發(fā)表自己的意見。接著整個(gè)小組相互交換意見,經(jīng)過(guò)分析討論后,根據(jù)已有的專業(yè)基礎(chǔ)和語(yǔ)言技能寫出信函初稿。初稿寫在寫作專用本上, 并在信函的上方寫上初稿字樣, 以便與修改稿作對(duì)比, 目的是通過(guò)對(duì)比加深印象。
(四)初稿演示:首先邀請(qǐng)各小組代表把他們剛完成的建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系信函初稿朗讀給全班聽,學(xué)生共同就信函的寫作目的、內(nèi)容, 寫作者與接收者的關(guān)系、語(yǔ)義結(jié)構(gòu)、內(nèi)容的展開形式以及語(yǔ)言表達(dá)方式進(jìn)行討論, 找出存在的問(wèn)題。
教師引導(dǎo)學(xué)生圍繞下列六個(gè)問(wèn)題進(jìn)行討論:
1、該信函的交際目的是什么?
2、交際雙方的關(guān)系如何?
3、該信函是屬于什么語(yǔ)式? 是為口頭閱讀還是為書面閱讀的?
4、根據(jù)該信函的交際目的, 哪些應(yīng)該是必要成分? 哪些是可選成分?
5、信函中的各種信息是如何組織及表達(dá)的? 內(nèi)容展開的順序如何?
6、你覺(jué)得信函初稿有哪些主要問(wèn)題?
(五)范文分析:討論完各組學(xué)生的信函初稿后,教師向?qū)W生提供范文。同樣,教師就范文的交際目的、結(jié)構(gòu)、內(nèi)容、組織方式以及語(yǔ)言表達(dá)等方面進(jìn)行分析,讓學(xué)生進(jìn)一步明白該建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系語(yǔ)類特有的結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)。
(六)摹仿分析: 給學(xué)生建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系信函若干份,讓其模仿教師的分析方法自行分析,找出信函中的必要成分,可選成分和展開順序,并對(duì)每個(gè)層次動(dòng)向中可能使用的典型語(yǔ)言功能及其具體語(yǔ)言實(shí)現(xiàn)形式進(jìn)行歸納總結(jié), 供寫作該類信函時(shí)參考。
(七)小組討論:以“語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)”為依據(jù)把幾封建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系信函的結(jié)構(gòu)打亂,讓學(xué)生通過(guò)討論拼接復(fù)原成符合語(yǔ)類慣例的信函。
(八)自我修改:學(xué)生討論自己的信函初稿和范文之間的差距,然后利用課堂上規(guī)定的時(shí)間對(duì)原有的信函初稿進(jìn)行修改或重寫,并在修改稿上方注明修改稿字樣。
(九)摹仿寫作:根據(jù)語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)分析的結(jié)果,教師再提供不同的商務(wù)情景,各小組學(xué)生一起擬寫屬于建立業(yè)務(wù)關(guān)系這一語(yǔ)類的信函,其中包括閱讀、研究、搜集、整理資料和寫作等不同步驟。通過(guò)模仿寫作,使學(xué)生更深切地體會(huì)到該語(yǔ)類的結(jié)構(gòu)特征和語(yǔ)言風(fēng)格。

本文從語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論及語(yǔ)類教學(xué)法入手,分析了教學(xué)中學(xué)生商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作出現(xiàn)的問(wèn)題, 探討了語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論在商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電課程教學(xué)中的實(shí)際應(yīng)用, 以期探索提高學(xué)生商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電寫作能力的途徑。語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論一方面有助于學(xué)生更好地把握各類商務(wù)英語(yǔ)信函的構(gòu)建機(jī)制;另一方面對(duì)學(xué)生讀懂和創(chuàng)造出得體而又地道的言語(yǔ)有著重要的作用。由于條件的限制, 筆者還沒(méi)有在教學(xué)實(shí)踐中進(jìn)一步完善該理論指導(dǎo)下的教學(xué)設(shè)計(jì),但是語(yǔ)類結(jié)構(gòu)潛勢(shì)理論對(duì)商務(wù)英語(yǔ)函電教學(xué)無(wú)疑具有指導(dǎo)意義。

Abstract: Business English correspondence has been the basic tool, through which foreign trade is carried out.However, students’ ability to write effective correspondence is hardly satisfactory.Based on Hasan's theory of Generic Structure Potential, this paper elaborates on the progress of the business English correspondence teaching, with a view to enhancing students' ability of discourse analysis and business English correspondence writing.Key Words: generic structure potential;generic approach;business English correspondence
