然而由于中國(guó)人學(xué)英語(yǔ)時(shí)都在背單詞的漢語(yǔ)意思，因此大家反而覺不出“背漢字”有什么奇怪的了。其實(shí)仔細(xì)想一想，這個(gè)行為真的很奇怪，奇怪的根源不在于行為本身，而在于中國(guó)人普遍不會(huì)直接識(shí)別英語(yǔ)單詞的意思，因而只好靠漢語(yǔ)符號(hào)來(lái)機(jī)械地幫助記憶英語(yǔ)單詞的意思，這樣去學(xué)英語(yǔ)不僅多此一舉，而且必然會(huì)陷入苦海無(wú)邊的符號(hào)記憶災(zāi)難中。

其實(shí)英語(yǔ)單詞和漢字一樣，存在著很多的“偏旁部首”，知道了偏旁部首你就可以根據(jù)它們直接來(lái)猜測(cè)單詞的意思，雖不說百分之百猜準(zhǔn)，但起碼可以猜測(cè)個(gè)大概，至少在別人告訴過你單詞的意思后你可以恍然大悟地領(lǐng)會(huì)它，這樣就可以大大增強(qiáng)你對(duì)英語(yǔ)單詞“見字識(shí)意”的能力，做到真正認(rèn)識(shí)一個(gè)單詞，而把它的漢語(yǔ)意思僅做為一般參考。

舉幾個(gè)例子來(lái)說吧：

比如單詞representative，請(qǐng)別急著告訴我你認(rèn)識(shí)這個(gè)單詞，其實(shí)你不見得“認(rèn)識(shí)”這個(gè)單詞，你僅是憑著你的記憶力記住了這串英語(yǔ)字母和兩個(gè)漢字符號(hào)“代表”之間的對(duì)應(yīng)關(guān)系，這樣去學(xué)英語(yǔ)你會(huì)多費(fèi)勁？下面我來(lái)告訴你這個(gè)單詞為什么是“代表”的意思。re在英語(yǔ)里是一個(gè)偏旁部首，它是“回來(lái)”的意思；pre也是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“向前”的意思；sent也是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“發(fā)出去、派出去”的意思；a僅是偏旁部首之間的一個(gè)“連接件”，沒了它兩個(gè)輔音字母t就要連在一起了，發(fā)音會(huì)分不開，會(huì)費(fèi)勁，因此用一個(gè)元音字母a隔開一下；tive也是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“人”的意思。那么這幾個(gè)偏旁部首連在一起是什么意思呢？re-pre-sent-a-tive，就是“回來(lái)-向前-派出去-的人”，即“回來(lái)征求大家的意見后又被派出去替大家講話的人”，這不就是“代表”的意思嗎！這么去認(rèn)識(shí)一個(gè)單詞才是真正“認(rèn)識(shí)”了這個(gè)單詞，把它認(rèn)識(shí)到了骨子里。

再舉一個(gè)例子吧：psychology。

psy=sci，是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“知道”的意思；cho是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“心”的意思；lo是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“說”的意思；gy是一個(gè)偏旁部首，是“學(xué)”的意思，logy合起來(lái)是“學(xué)說”的意思。因此psy-cho-logy連起來(lái)就是“知道心的學(xué)說”，因此就是“心理學(xué)”的意思。

依此類推，不多舉例了，我要表達(dá)的觀點(diǎn)已經(jīng)清楚了，那就是，不要去死記硬背單詞的漢語(yǔ)意思，而要用識(shí)別“偏旁部首”的方法去真正認(rèn)識(shí)一個(gè)單詞，真正認(rèn)識(shí)了單詞后，你會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)單詞表里的漢語(yǔ)翻譯原來(lái)其實(shí)很勉強(qiáng)，有時(shí)甚至根本翻譯不出來(lái)，因?yàn)闈h語(yǔ)和英語(yǔ)是兩種不同的文字體系，兩者在文字上本來(lái)就不是一一對(duì)應(yīng)的，只背英語(yǔ)單詞的漢字意思是不能真正認(rèn)識(shí)這個(gè)單詞的，會(huì)造成很多的后續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)困難，會(huì)造成你一輩子看英語(yǔ)單詞如霧里看花，永遠(yuǎn)有退不掉的陌生感。

那么接下來(lái)的問題是，英語(yǔ)里有多少個(gè)“偏旁部首”，怎樣知道和學(xué)會(huì)它們？

回答這個(gè)問題時(shí)我才發(fā)現(xiàn)中國(guó)人對(duì)英語(yǔ)偏旁部首陌生的兩個(gè)主要原因，一是這些重要內(nèi)容不在學(xué)校的英語(yǔ)教材當(dāng)中，大家在課堂上學(xué)不到(這是目前學(xué)校英語(yǔ)教材急需彌補(bǔ)的缺陷)；二是少數(shù)書店里銷售的有關(guān)這方面內(nèi)容的書過分復(fù)雜化，動(dòng)轍幾百上千頁(yè)，內(nèi)容苦澀龐大，影響了這些常識(shí)的普及，使得本來(lái)是常識(shí)的東西不常識(shí)。其

實(shí)英語(yǔ)里偏旁部首的學(xué)名叫“字根”，常用的也就二百多個(gè)，它們就像26個(gè)字母一樣普通而重要，就像漢語(yǔ)里的偏旁部首那樣普通而重要，它們是學(xué)英語(yǔ)第一課里就應(yīng)該學(xué)習(xí)的重要內(nèi)容，學(xué)英語(yǔ)者應(yīng)及早地掌握這些重要的常識(shí)，及早地?cái)[脫死記硬背的蠻干狀態(tài)，及早地進(jìn)入科學(xué)、高效的識(shí)字狀態(tài)。

美國(guó)一位語(yǔ)言學(xué)家說：要想讓孩子學(xué)會(huì)游泳，就要把他扔在游泳池里，用一種語(yǔ)言孤立地解釋另一種語(yǔ)言，就好比沒有游泳池，孩子不可能真正學(xué)會(huì)另外一種語(yǔ)言，要想告別中式英語(yǔ)，就必須讓還在在動(dòng)畫片和故事書中找到游泳的感覺。
