，After watching 《The Truman Show》 what impressed me most is

the ugly behaviors in the process of commercialization of massmedia which is self seeking and trample human rights.WhenTruman is only a fetus ,the Reality show has already began.Daily life exposure in the perspective of the people, so do not we ?Theyjust do not put the camera before us.The let us can’t help asking ourselves :”Maybe everyone around me is in a play” “Is my life also in surveillance ,I have lacked of the privacy”

Some people said life is like a play except that there is no dress

rehearsal, Perhaps this is my another inspiration for the film.Human living in the world need to play manymanyroles., Each role

requires different content.Only facing the play ,can human take their own and improve ourselves in the struggle.At the end，Truman finally get out of the door with “exit”, get out

of the world which do not belong to him , get into hisreal world.At the end of the film, the words ofTruman, In case i don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night.", givedeep impression on us.which is best representation of who is Truman。Through such a tear-jerking way , Truman ends his thirty-years acting career ,with optimism, persistence and confidence.At that moment，his audience in the filmcheered for the Truman, and the audience out of the film also did，whenhuman nature is shining。Christof: I have given Truman the chance to lead a normal life.The world, the place you live in, is the sick place.As long as we insist on our principle and fight for our target, the society will become normal in you eyes.

On Infiltration of Escapism

----A Brief Comment on The Truman Show

Abstract: The Truman Show1 deserves spectacular appreciation for its unique approach—intercutting shots between program of Truman and “real life” footage of the director and spectators.The specialty of presentation sufficiently lays out Escapism in Post-Modernism layer by layer.Followed a brief introduction about the intercutting approach in this movies and Escapism, this paper concentrates on the cause, manifestation and influence of Escapism from the shifting angles of view: Truman, director and spectators.Then it draws a summarization that Escapism has overall infiltrated into human’s life.Key words: The Truman Show, Escapism, shifting angles of view, intercutting, Post-Modernism

The Truman Show, as a typical milestone of the movie industry, puts other traditional genres in the shadow by intercutting the real-time documentary between program of Truman and “real life” of the spectators and director.Firstly, the movie chiefly centralizes on the Truman Burbank’s angle of view.The protagonist, whose entire life is broadcasted in a hugely popular 24-hour-a-day TV series, is gradually aware that his existence is captured by concealed cameras and tries his best to get away from the authoritative domination.Secondly, the movie alternately intercuts the shot to the angle of view of spectators, who are keeping a watchful eye on Truman’s every particular gesture and behavior for escaping from the perceived unpleasant aspects of daily life.Thirdly, the movie shifts the scene to director’s angle of view.It reveals that his motivation of creating the cheerful community of Seahaven(a materialization of “paradise”)is to run away from the hypocrisy and complexity of the world outside2.In short, whatever angle of view the movie sets out, it gives embodiment of Escapism all the time and all the way.As for Escapism3, it is a mental diversion or tendency to seek distraction and relief from banal reality in the era of Post-Modernism4.Although different reference books provide different illustrations5, several characteristics are endorsed.For one thing, Escapism is regarded as an inherent expression of Post-Modernism, for urbanization, industrialization and technological existences have removed people from their biologically normal natures and the rigors of daily life.For another thing, it is unilateral to assert that escapism carries an extreme and negative connotation, suggesting escapists are depraved or sorrowful.In fact, escapism also indicates optimistic significance for positive escapists with an inability or unwillingness to connect with the world meaningfully.Related with this movie, three kinds of Escapism, namely, Truman’s positive Escapism, director’s extreme Escapism and spectators’ negative Escapism have been infiltrating into human’s life.The cause, manifestation and influence of will be analyzed in detail.From Truman’s angle of view, Escapism is endowed with the property of positiveness and has done a great favor to obtain freedom.First of all, his Escapism originates from his consciousness of being controlled and the conspiracies of life.As we know, he has grown up and lived in a fake town getting along with actors.The town is enclosed in a giant dome with high-tech simulations of sun and sky, in which the rain and wind are productions of the special effects.In the beginning, he knows nothing that the rest of humanity watches him in a 24-hour-a-day reality programming.Fortunately, he gradually figures out that his surroundings are full of staged scenes and events.Hence, His intention to escape is put into practice as an adequate dynamic and driving force to convert the bound situation and obtain the precious freedom.Above all, his positive Escapism provides the ample motivation to flee the fake and hold the authentic life in his arms.It is his positive Escapism that makes him come up against both his own fears of water and the obstacles put in his way by the producer-director who has made billions of traps in a stage set and playing a God role in his life.From director’s angle of view, Christof’s extreme Escapism has buried his humanity and conscience, which seed in his collapse in essence.In the beginning, his Escapism stems from his despair towards degenerate modern society.today's affluent societies are in danger of becoming rotten and hypocritical environments under the impact of urbanization, industrialization and technological existences etc.In the movie, Christof shows his hopelessness towards reality several times.Therefore, his Escapism is put into effect as a passageway to reject and isolate from the reality, As we can say, he chooses an extreme way to create the lifelike simulations and story lines from the high-tech facsimile of a sun that benevolently beams down on Truman to the mock sincerity of the actors who Truman mistakenly believes is his family and friend.All that he has done embodies his abnormal and freak Escapism from reality.In sum up, Christof’s extreme Escapism leads to his deformity of personality and final breakdown.From spectators’ angle of view, it is the negative Escapism that gives rise to their crazed behavior of being addictive in peeping Truman’s life immorally.Firstly, spectators’ negative Escapism derivates from their desires of getting out of the unpleasant sufferings pessimistically.As we can observe, although the fans may live very normal lives— having children, relationships and regular jobs, they spend their regular time escaping into an idealized world and lose their own mind in the made-up show.As Truman’s fate rises and falls, the spectators’ emotion fluctuates fiercely.They are devoted enough to throw themselves into the series and treat themselves as actors.Consequently, spectators who get excessively involved as fans of Truman show are pursuing an unhealthy level of escapism.The negative Escapism masquerades as a better anesthesia than exploring the hard truths of this world.As a result, negative Escapism leads to symptoms of mental illness such as dependence on media and peeping.In brief, after analyzing the brilliantly-conceived satire, we can easily draw the conclusion that the intercutting shots between program of Truman and “real life” of the director and spectators fully demonstrates Escapism has overall infiltrated into human’s life.Truman certifies positive Escapism can play a effective role in fulfilling dream.Director’s Escapism makes him run away from the absurdity extremely.proper Spectators’ Escapism leads them to turn down to engage in the true world negatively.Notes:

從《楚門(mén)的世界》看媒介操縱

從報(bào)紙的誕生、電子媒介的產(chǎn)生到新媒體時(shí)代的到來(lái)，隨著傳播手段和傳播技術(shù)的不斷發(fā)展，我們的生活由信息閉塞的狀態(tài)不斷地向信息充裕變化，從而不斷地開(kāi)闊了我們的視野面，但是與此同時(shí)我們不得不面對(duì)著一個(gè)殘酷的事實(shí)，那就是在高速進(jìn)步的新電子媒介發(fā)展之前，我們?cè)絹?lái)越難以使我們的個(gè)人隱私得到保障。使得我們不僅對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)的世界產(chǎn)生疑惑：技術(shù)的進(jìn)步和物質(zhì)的不斷充裕，究竟是讓我們?cè)絹?lái)越感到自主還是越來(lái)越被束縛？究竟是使得這個(gè)世界更加明白清晰地呈現(xiàn)在自己面前還是對(duì)于現(xiàn)實(shí)世界感到更加的虛妄，越來(lái)越遠(yuǎn)離了真實(shí)的人生？

楚門(mén)的世界似乎正好的提出了這個(gè)困擾了我們?cè)S久的問(wèn)題。這部電影以一個(gè)獨(dú)特卻近乎殘忍的方式，給了我們些許關(guān)于真實(shí)世界的想法。

當(dāng)一個(gè)人，從出生到長(zhǎng)大，都被放置于暗藏的攝影鏡頭下的時(shí)候，甚至連初吻都成為萬(wàn)眾茶余飯后談?wù)摰膶?duì)象的時(shí)候，我們會(huì)不會(huì)覺(jué)得這個(gè)世界太瘋狂了？楚門(mén)的世界里似乎只有一個(gè)人是真實(shí)的，那就是楚門(mén)自己。每天早上,和鄰居固定的早上，中午，晚上一起的問(wèn)候，遇到那只斑點(diǎn)狗,毫無(wú)懸念的被撲了上來(lái)，走過(guò)旋轉(zhuǎn)玻璃門(mén)去保險(xiǎn)公司上班，然后買(mǎi)報(bào)紙，回家有太太，和偶爾過(guò)來(lái)串門(mén)的媽媽，似乎生活就是那么的真實(shí)，那么的像一個(gè)正常的人一樣。然而隱藏在這真實(shí)的背后的卻是為了滿足千萬(wàn)雙眼睛而編造的虛妄，正如卞之琳的那首詩(shī)一樣。我站在橋上看風(fēng)景，看風(fēng)景的人在橋上看我。

很顯然，楚門(mén)的遭遇并不只是他一個(gè)人生活的反應(yīng)，他是在整個(gè)人類(lèi)社會(huì)進(jìn)入物質(zhì)與信息爆炸性增長(zhǎng)的時(shí)代之后，人類(lèi)文明在發(fā)展到一定的程度之后對(duì)于現(xiàn)實(shí)與未來(lái)的反思，以及對(duì)當(dāng)前世界的憂慮而產(chǎn)生的普遍現(xiàn)象。

楚門(mén)的世界對(duì)于楚門(mén)而言，在整個(gè)海景鎮(zhèn)中，似乎只有楚門(mén)一個(gè)人是真實(shí)的，又似乎只有楚門(mén)一個(gè)人是虛假的。楚門(mén)的世界在我眼里對(duì)于多數(shù)的看客而言卻也是他們心中所習(xí)以為然的真實(shí)的。他們的生活態(tài)度與生活的情趣都融入了楚門(mén)的世界與他的生活的點(diǎn)滴化為了一體。他們一起在經(jīng)歷著人生的成長(zhǎng)的歷程，離開(kāi)了楚門(mén)，他們的生活就會(huì)像是那個(gè)在鏡頭中一直出現(xiàn)在浴缸里的男人一樣，是虛無(wú)的，是無(wú)以為繼的，離開(kāi)了楚門(mén)，他們的生活便會(huì)沒(méi)有了方向，世界也將會(huì)陷入一片的混沌，從而失去了它存在的意義，不是這樣嗎？當(dāng)我們陷入了一個(gè)被媒介所控制和制造的自以為是真實(shí)的世界里的時(shí)候，我們便也會(huì)在一定的程度上失去自我，離原本的真相便會(huì)越走越遠(yuǎn)。直到真的找不回自己。這是社會(huì)的虛無(wú)感，和我們現(xiàn)實(shí)生活中人們的自我價(jià)值感逐漸缺失的一種表現(xiàn)不是嗎？

新媒介的時(shí)代的到來(lái)，一方面我們?cè)摓榇硕械揭环N沾沾自喜，因?yàn)槲覀兛梢杂X(jué)得自己漸漸的可以看見(jiàn)整個(gè)地球而不要跑遍世界，但另一方面我們卻在短暫的欣喜之后迅速的發(fā)現(xiàn)自己貌似被坑了的感覺(jué)。新媒介時(shí)代使我們發(fā)現(xiàn)我們都難以逃脫楚門(mén)的悲慘命運(yùn)。在大批的充斥視野的真人秀節(jié)目中我們不正好可以看見(jiàn)生活中而不再是屏幕里的楚門(mén)嗎？

Who’s written our script?(楚門(mén)的世界)The main characters(主要角色)：畢楚門(mén)(Truman Burbank),克里斯托弗(Christof), 羅蘭/施維婭(Lauren/Sylvia),美露(Meryl)prop(道具)： 一張桌子一把椅子一直放在舞臺(tái)中央偏左，桌子里有報(bào)紙，圓盤(pán)，收音機(jī)，咖啡，咖啡杯，筷子

左右為面向舞臺(tái)的左右方向。本劇本預(yù)計(jì)左右各兩個(gè)話筒。

旁白念詞時(shí)演員就要擺好姿勢(shì)，旁白下場(chǎng)就開(kāi)始表演，開(kāi)場(chǎng)時(shí)站左邊的人：美露，店主，操作員B（Camera man），其他人站右邊

開(kāi)場(chǎng)白：楚門(mén)從右上，至中

Truman: And in case I don't see ya'!Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Goodnight!從左下。

SCENE1 每一個(gè)場(chǎng)景都是旁白先上，然后演員就擺好造型。Camera man 就一直跟著楚門(mén)。在導(dǎo)演說(shuō)臺(tái)詞時(shí)用自己的DV示意。Voice-over: Day 10909 action.At home 美露，楚門(mén)從左上

Meryl: Truman, you're gonna be late!Truman: Okay!(rush to his wife), let me say goodbye(a deep hug)Meryl: Enough my honey, bye.美露從左下。楚門(mén)從右下。

Voice-over: At the Newspaper Stand

店主從左上，坐在椅子上，從桌子中拿出報(bào)紙。顧客從右上

Customer: Dog Fancy please...Why thank you.Thank you very much.顧客從左下。楚門(mén)從右上。Truman: Morning!Winnie: Morning!Truman.Truman: Oh.Get a paper there, will you, Harold? Oh, and uh...one of these-for the wife.Love her fashion magazines.Winnie(: Will that be all for you, Truman? 在楚門(mén)說(shuō)到一半的時(shí)候，導(dǎo)演按一下遙控器，所有在臺(tái)上的演員就不動(dòng)。直到導(dǎo)演念完臺(tái)詞，再按下遙控器時(shí)(導(dǎo)演同時(shí)被人推回去，從右下，推的人就躲在轉(zhuǎn)椅后面)，楚門(mén)再將臺(tái)詞繼續(xù)說(shuō)完。

Christof： We've become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions.So we have Truman show, Truman’s true man’s show.The world is counterfeit, but he is real.It isn't always Shakespeare, it’s a life.(手掌向外，自然指向楚門(mén))Truman Burbank, as himself.楚門(mén)從左下。店主（帶報(bào)紙），Camera man從右下。

SCENE2楚門(mén)拿一個(gè)高腳杯（盛葡萄味美年達(dá)）從左上，在旁白念詞時(shí)坐在椅子上喝酒。侍者懷抱菜單從左上，拿一把椅子，向楚門(mén)微鞠躬后從左退場(chǎng)（在旁白退場(chǎng)之前退場(chǎng)）。施維Written by John C3 S1 婭在旁白退場(chǎng)后從右上，坐在椅子上。楚門(mén)一口飲盡。

SCENE 3 旁白從左上，從左下。在旁白念詞時(shí)，楚門(mén)從左上，把右邊的椅子靠攏桌子，坐在椅子上，把高腳杯放進(jìn)桌子，拿出桌子里的圓盤(pán)與收音機(jī)，做開(kāi)車(chē)狀。

Voice-over: on the way home, Truman is absent-minded in driving.But he soon finds that there are much more things to thought of……

悠揚(yáng)的音樂(lè)突然變成雜音，然后沒(méi)了聲音。楚門(mén)很奇怪的看著收音機(jī)，上下鼓弄。Broadcast: Wait for the cue, wait for the cue。

然后將話筒交給導(dǎo)演，導(dǎo)演與一個(gè)操作員從右上，站在右側(cè)。Christof: He's heading west on Stewart.Going to turn right.楚門(mén)看向四周。

Operator A: he’ll be on you in about 90 seconds, Bob, lead that dog away.楚門(mén)十分驚慌，從椅子上跌下。

Christof: Oh God!He knew we were following, change frequencies!楚門(mén)慌不擇路，跌跌撞撞的跑下臺(tái)，從左下。導(dǎo)演與操作員從右下。

SCENE 4 旁白從左上。美露從左上，把收音機(jī)收下去，從桌子里拿出咖啡杯，筷子與咖啡，把左邊的椅子靠攏，坐在右邊的椅子上作調(diào)制咖啡狀。
