第四篇：常見英語翻譯錯誤

第一節(jié) 望文生義型錯誤

1、Fight shy of the theoretical method of approach to the learning of English.誤：從理論上講，學(xué)英語的方法就是要戰(zhàn)勝害羞。正：學(xué)英語要避免只講理論（而不實(shí)踐）。析：fight shy of 是習(xí)語，意為 回避，避免。

2、This failure was the making of him.誤：這次失敗是他造成的。

正：這次失敗是他成功的基礎(chǔ)。

析：make基本含義是 造成，也可作 發(fā)展或發(fā)達(dá)的過程，成功的原因或手段 解，此題便是此意。making作復(fù)數(shù)是表示 素質(zhì)、要素，如 He has in him the makings of a scholar.3、They made an example of the boy.誤：他們以這個男孩為榜樣。

正：他們懲罰這個男孩以儆他人。

析：make an example of sb=punish one as an example to others,。set an example of sb 才是 樹立榜樣。

第二節(jié) 語法關(guān)系混淆型錯誤

1、He tried to seem angry,but his smile betrayed him.誤：他試圖看上去很生氣，但是他的笑容背叛了他。

正：他假裝生氣的樣子，但是他的笑容暴露了他的真實(shí)感情。

析：這里 him 是指 his true feelings.應(yīng)該注意的是，英語中的人稱代詞并非都是指代人，所指內(nèi)容要根據(jù)上下文而定，翻譯時一定要指出其具體指代。又如：When he was accused of theft,he turned red.其中he=his face,不可譯成...他變紅了。

2、He stole her a watch.誤：他偷了她一塊表。正：他為她偷了一塊表。

析：此句中her是stole的間接賓語，而watch是直接賓語。

3、It was not that he had plenty of money 誤：他并不是很有錢。

正：那并不是因為他有很多錢。

析：居中it不代表that分句，而只是一個普通的代名詞。此類句型中后面的it is 可省略。句中that＝because。此句型的完整形式是 It is not that...but it is that....。it意為the reason。

第三節(jié) 由于缺乏背景知識造成的錯誤

1、The man is the black sheep of the family.、誤：這個人象家里的黑羊一樣。正：這個人是家里的敗家子。析：在英語中，黑羊具有貶意，可翻譯為 害群之馬，敗家子。

題外話：在Westlife的 Seasons in the sun 中，就有一句 I was the black sheep of the family…

2、When you are down,you are not necessarily out.誤：當(dāng)你倒的時候，你不一定在外面。

正：遇到挫折，并不一定喪失成功的機(jī)會。

析：本句借用了拳擊中的規(guī)則來表達(dá)意思，眾所周知，在拳擊賽上被擊倒后在數(shù)十下之內(nèi)站起來還可繼續(xù)比賽，并有機(jī)會取勝（電影中屢見不鮮吧^_^）。

3、He tugged heavy hand baggage down endless airport corridors.誤：他拖住沉重的隨身行李，走過無止境的機(jī)場走廊。正：他拖住沉重的隨身行李，走過環(huán)行的機(jī)場走廊。

析：一般的國際機(jī)場，從候機(jī)室通向各跑道的走廊呈環(huán)狀，兩頭相連，所以是“endless”，因此此句中應(yīng)該譯為“環(huán)狀的第四節(jié) 邏輯性錯誤

1、Individualism is the core of social values in the United States.誤：個人主義是美國社會文化準(zhǔn)則的核心。正：個人的價值是美國社會文化準(zhǔn)則的核心。

析：翻譯時要主義詞匯的文化內(nèi)涵。在中國個人主義具有貶義，而在美國，individualism是美國人的價值觀和人生觀的核心，提倡的是人的自由、權(quán)力以及獨(dú)立思考與行動，在英文中所承載的文化內(nèi)涵較為寬泛，不能簡單地等同中國的個人主義。

2、No one is so foolish as to believe that anything happens by chance.誤：誰也不會笨到相信世界上有什么偶然發(fā)生的事。

正：誰也不會笨到相信世界上一切的事情都是偶然發(fā)生的。

析：anything在肯定句中作 一切 講，根據(jù)邏輯，世界上怎么可能沒有偶然發(fā)生的事呢？

3、Einstein ,who developed the theory of relativity,arrived at this theroy through mahtematics.誤：愛因斯坦發(fā)展了相對論，他是通過數(shù)學(xué)得出這一理論的。正：愛因斯坦創(chuàng)利了相對論，他是通過數(shù)學(xué)得出這一理論的。

析：你錯了嗎？如果愛因斯坦是發(fā)展了相對論，哪是誰創(chuàng)立了相對論呢？你嗎？應(yīng)該知道，develop除了具有 發(fā)展 的意思外，還有一個重要意思是 創(chuàng)立，發(fā)明（bring into existence）.第五節(jié) 常見錯誤精選

1、Nobody will be the wiser.誤：誰也不會更聰明。正：誰也不懂。

析：Wise有三個基本意義

1、聰明的

2、飽學(xué)的

3、知道的（通常用比較級），此題中是第三個意思。又如：We are none the wiser for his explanation.聽完他的解釋，我們還是不怎么明白。

2、Don't tell him home truth.誤：別告訴他家里的真相。正：別告訴他逆耳的真相。

析：home作形容詞為 有力的，擊中要害的。又如：a home question 擊中要害的提問

題外話：查了金山詞霸2005，home作adj也有 家里的 意思，因此到底能否譯成家里的真相也不太清楚，請高手留言討論，重謝。

3、This will go a long way in overcoming the difficulty.誤：在克服困難上要走很長的路。正：這對突破難關(guān)是有用處的。

析：go a long way=will be helpfull.又如：go a little way with a person 譯為 對那人不起作用。

4、He had a yellow streak in him.誤：他身上有條黃條紋。正：他膽小。

析：yellow streak 意為 膽怯，懦弱。

5、One or two of the jewels would never be missed.誤：一兩粒珠寶是決不會不見了的。

正：失去一兩粒珠寶是決不會想起來的。

析：miss 作動詞有四個基本意：

1、消失，不見

2、略去

3、錯過，逃避

4、想起想念，察覺。本題中miss 為第四個意識。若表示 消失，不能用被動式。

6、I know he meant business.誤：我知道他意在生意上。正：我知道他不是開玩笑的。

析：口語中 mean bussiness＝ be serious, 很好理解，做生意不認(rèn)真講信用怎么可以呢。

7、I can do with more leisure time.誤：有更多的閑暇我就能做了。正：要再多一些閑暇時間就好了。

析：can do =be satisfied with,be content with ,滿足，忍受，在do 之前用 could就表示 要是能得到就好了，如：That man could to with a shave.那個家伙要是能把胡子刮光了就好了。當(dāng)然，do 后面有賓語翻譯就另當(dāng)別論了，do sth with sth就不用我講了吧？

8、The lecturre carried his audience with him.誤：那演講者把他的觀眾帶走了。正：那演講者博得全場喝彩。

析：Carry 除作 搬運(yùn) 講外，還有 吸引（觀眾、聽眾）的意思（本題），也有 獲勝（在戰(zhàn)斗、選舉中等），如：He carried the election.他當(dāng)選了。

9、The grey mare is the better horse.誤：灰色的母馬是較好的馬。正：牝雞司晨，家之不祥。

析：此為諺語一句，就是 妻管嚴(yán) 的意思，看看就行了，順便學(xué)個漢字。（牝〈名〉(形聲。從牛,匕聲。依甲骨文,“匕”為雌性動物的標(biāo)志。本義:雌性的禽獸)）

10、How much did you have to pay down on the car?

誤：你（一共）花了多少錢買那輛車？ 正：買那輛車你首付給了多少現(xiàn)錢？ 析：down=in cash,在買東西時付出的現(xiàn)金，下面這個例句可幫助理解本題：U pay 5000 dollars down and the remainder in installments.你先付5000美元現(xiàn)金，其余的分期付款。

11、The wind blows south.誤：風(fēng)向南吹。

正：風(fēng)從南邊吹來。

析：表示方位的詞，如東南西北，作副詞時，意義為 朝...方向去，如：The river flows north.河水向北流。但是唯有說道風(fēng)的時候，恰好相反，指 從...方向來。如：The wind blows east.刮東風(fēng)。

12、There is no living in the island.誤：此島上沒有生物。正：此島不能住人/居住。

析：There is no + v-ing(動名詞)=We can't + v(原動詞)＝It's impossible + to v(不定式)

13、A drowning man catches at a straw.誤：一個溺水的人抓住了一根稻草。

正：一個將淹死的人哪怕是一根稻草也會去抓。

析：catch a straw 為實(shí)際抓住了，catch at a straw 為還沒有抓到手不過是努力想要抓到罷了。這句話是一個成語，比喻一個人絕望時的心情。

14、He wanted to go to sea.誤：他想去海邊。正：他要去當(dāng)水手。

析：want作動詞用時，除了 要 這個主要意思外，還有缺少的意思，如：He wants patience.他缺乏耐心。作不及物動詞一定表示 缺少 或 貧困解，如：The house wants in height.這個房子不夠高。We mustn't let him want in his old age.我們一定不能讓他老年時貧困。wanting 無論是作形容詞還是介詞均表示 缺乏。Many pages of this book r wanting.這本書缺少了很多頁。Wanting mutual trust,friendship is impossible.沒有相互信任的友誼是不可能有的。本題，go to sea 是習(xí)慣用語。

15、She is careless of her dress.誤：她不注意衣著。

正：她不愛惜她的衣服。

析：careless of 表示 不重視，不修邊幅怎么說呢？careless about.16、None is so deaf as those who won't hear.誤：沒有比聾子更聽不見的人了。正：沒有比不想聽的人更聾的了。

析：won't =will not,表示 不愿，不想要，含義個人的意志在內(nèi)。不能因該用can't。

17、Those apples are good and ripe.誤：那些蘋果品質(zhì)優(yōu)良并且成熟了。正：那些蘋果是很熟的了。

析：good and 作為副詞講，意思為 very 非常，thoroughly 完全地，同類的表達(dá)還有nice and（nicely），rare and（rarely），如：The car was going nice and fast.汽車跑得相當(dāng)之快。

18、He was strong in his time.誤：他一生都很強(qiáng)壯。

正：他年青時身體很強(qiáng)壯/健康。

析：in one's time/days 意思為 when he was young/at his best，相反的說法為 at one's age（年老時）

19、I had words with her.誤：我和她談過話了。正：我和她吵架了。

析：have words with sb 意為和某人發(fā)生爭論或口角，英文中的words常有 吵嘴 之意，應(yīng)注意。

20、He took my advice in good part.誤：他采納了我意見中的較好的那部分。正：他欣然采納了我的意見。

析：take sth in good part 意為 善意地接受，順受；相反的說法為 in bad(ill)part 意為 不悅地，逆受。

21、Twelve passed the exam,myself among the rest.誤：十二個人通過了考試，而我卻沒有。

正：十二個人通過了考試，而我自己也是其中之一。

析：沒錯，the rest 表示的是 其余的，剩下的，但是 among the rest 是一句成語，和 among the number 一樣表示 在其中，包括在內(nèi)。

22、He is kind to a fault.誤：他對于錯誤毫不介意。正：他太好了/好得過分了。

析：to a fault ＝excessively 過度、極端地。

23、I have a long letter in hand.誤：我手上拿著一封長信。正：我正在寫一封長信。析：have...in hand 表示 be engaged in 正在進(jìn)行，正在做。表示手中有...應(yīng)該是 I have a long letter in my hand.24、They didn't answer to your explanation.誤：他們沒用回應(yīng)你的解釋。正：那些和你的解釋不相符。

析：answer to =correspond to 符合，相應(yīng)，因此主語 they 是指事而非指人。表示回答、回應(yīng)只用answer即可。

25、The enemies were killed to a man.誤：敵人被殺得只剩下一個人了。

正：敵人被殺得片甲不留/一個不剩了。析：（all）to a man =all without exception 全部，一個不剩。

26、The village is on the side of the mountain.誤：那村莊在山旁。正：那村莊在山腰。

析：山有陰陽兩面（two sides），說在一面上，其實(shí)是指在半山上。若要指在旁邊，即在山下，應(yīng)該用 by the side of。

27、He never calls a spade a spade.誤：他從不把鋤頭稱作鋤頭 /他從不把黑桃稱為黑桃 /他指鹿為馬。正：他從不直話直說。

析：call a spade a spade 意為 直言不諱。打橋牌時，手上有什么牌是不直說的，明明手上是黑桃（spade），故意要說為 club（梅花）、heart（紅桃）或diamond（方塊）。指鹿為馬是 call white black.

28、He got out of the bed on the wrong side today.誤：今天他是從床下面爬起來的。正：他今天很不高興。析：這句話又可說成 rise out of the wrong side of the bed,一起床就不對頭，自然一天都不高興。又如，She laughed on the wrong side of the mouth.她哭了。

29、I used to lay down the law in a teahouse.誤：我曾經(jīng)在茶館里無法無天地亂鬧。

正：我曾經(jīng)在茶館里大發(fā)言論，儼然是一個權(quán)威。

析：lay down the law=speak in tones of authority,裝作權(quán)威一般地說話。此外還有斥責(zé)、下命令的意思。

30、Why should I quarrel with my bread and butter? 誤：我干嘛要和我的面包和黃油吵架？ 正：我干嘛要和自己的生計過不去呢？

析：bread and butter 指我們所依靠的糊口之資。

31、He flatters himeself that he speaks French as well as a Frenchman.誤：他夸自己的法語說得和法國人一樣好。

正：他自以為自己的法語說得和法國人一樣好了。

析：flatter oneself that =feel satisfaction with oneself 妄自以為，自鳴得意。

32、She doesn't know any better.誤：她也不知道什么/她不知道任何更好的。正：她居然有那么蠢！

析：know better = be wiser,意為 有頭腦，不上當(dāng)，不至于蠢到...。

33、I talked myself hoarse.誤：我用粗啞的聲音說著話。正：我說得聲音都嘶啞了。

析：hoarse是作補(bǔ)語，表示結(jié)果而非手段，此句完整形式為 I talked till I was hoarse.又如：She cried herself blind.她眼睛都哭瞎了。

34、I am now under the weather.誤：我現(xiàn)在身處露天之中。

正：我現(xiàn)在不太舒服/我現(xiàn)在醉了。

析：under the weather=ill or depressed；drunk 意為受天氣影響而患病；也可表達(dá)為 喝醉了（多見于澳大利亞英語中）。

35、There are friends and friends.誤：那兒有許多朋友。

正：朋友有許多種，既有益友也有損友。析：這種表達(dá)發(fā)一定是為了突出不同種類的，又如：There are shopkeepers and shopkeepers。商人有好也有壞。

36、The actor has his head turned.誤：那個男演員回過了頭。正：那個男演員得意忘形了。析：have one's head turned/ turn one's head 指因不當(dāng)?shù)馁潛P(yáng)或意外的成功，使然改變常態(tài)。又如：His success has turned his head（=made him act foolishly）．同樣的表達(dá)法還有：The dead body turned her stomach（=made her sick）．

37、That girl cried because her schoolfellows called her names.誤：那個小女孩哭了,因為她的同學(xué)叫了她的名字。正：那個小女孩哭了,因為她的同學(xué)罵了她。

析：mount在此指 供給馬匹 而不是 騎，可參照我們熟悉的下面這個例句理解：The woman was well dressed.她穿得很漂亮（而非她善于穿衣服）
