Distinguished guests，Ladies and Gentlemen，倫敦是一座古老的城市，約有2千年的歷史；深圳是一座年輕的城市，只有32年歷史。今天，古老和年輕的兩座城市再度相會(huì)，是由于一個(gè)令人，尤其是女士們心動(dòng)的元素：時(shí)尚。

It?s a great pleasure for me to join you tonight.The history of London stretches back over 2000 years.By contrast, Shenzhen is a young city whose history started a mere 32 years ago.Today, London and Shenzhen are coming together.What makes this possible is a shared big business interest.This is the fashion industry.倫敦是世界知名時(shí)尚之都，每年兩次的倫敦時(shí)裝周是世界四大時(shí)裝展示會(huì)之一，以充滿活力和創(chuàng)意而著稱。

London is known worldwide as the fashion capital.Also London Fashion Week ranks as one of the ?Big Four? fashion weeks worldwide.In creativity and fashion London never fails to impress people with its vitality and creativity.深圳是中國(guó)時(shí)裝業(yè)特別是品牌服裝最發(fā)達(dá)的城市之一，時(shí)裝的總體研發(fā)、創(chuàng)意設(shè)計(jì)在中國(guó)居領(lǐng)先地位?，F(xiàn)在，深圳有服裝企業(yè)3000多家，自有品牌800多個(gè)，從業(yè)人員35萬(wàn)多，去年出口89億美元。據(jù)說(shuō)，在中國(guó)一線城市大商場(chǎng)銷售的10件服裝中，約有5至6件來(lái)自深圳。

Shenzhen is home to the most advanced sectors of the fashion industry in China.Shenzhen is where there is the biggest concentration of Chinese fashion brands and manufacturers.Shenzhen is leading the way in China for research, development and design in the fashion sector.If you visit Shenzhen – as I hope many of you will – you will find these strengths:

· Over 3,000 garment manufacturers.· More than 800 local brands.· There are around 350,000 people employed in the industry.· And last year, Shenzhen sold 8.9 billion US dollars worth of garment products.I can give you one measure of the strength of Shenzhen?s fashion industry inside China.For every 10 clothing items on sale in high street department stores in Chinese major cities, 5 to 6 are made in Shenzhen.深圳成為中國(guó)的“時(shí)尚創(chuàng)意之都”,我想:

Shenzhen is well-positioned to be China?s “fashion and creative capital”.Let me explain why:

一是年輕。深圳不僅是城市年輕，隨著中國(guó)的改革開放才從一個(gè)“小漁村”奇跡般地發(fā)展成為一座現(xiàn)代化大都市，更因?yàn)樗娜丝跇?gòu)成年輕、文化氛圍年輕、思想意識(shí)年輕，因而創(chuàng)新、創(chuàng)意總是這座城市的主色調(diào)，時(shí)裝產(chǎn)業(yè)走得也是品牌和設(shè)計(jì)之路。

First, Shenzhen is a young city.Just 32 years ago Shenzhen was a tiny fishing village.The transformation into an advanced modern metropolis is a most telling example of how China has been transformed by the reform and opening-up strategy.The phenomenal growth of Shenzhen has been driven by the strength, energy and spirit of a young population.In turn from that youth a creative zest has flourished and thus creativity is always the defining character of Shenzhen.This has produced a powerful foundation for fashion to evolve.The result is a fast developing global centre in Shenzhen of new exciting brands and design.二是開拓。深圳作為中國(guó)首批對(duì)外開放的城市之一，30多年來(lái)，始終“敢為天下先”，引領(lǐng)中國(guó)經(jīng)濟(jì)改革，創(chuàng)造了舉世聞名的“深圳速度”，打造了全國(guó)領(lǐng)先的“效益深圳”，同時(shí)深圳也是最早在中國(guó)引進(jìn)、傳播和開創(chuàng)流行時(shí)尚。

Second, Shenzhen is a tireless pioneer.Here was the first city of China to open to the outside world over 30 years ago.So, Shenzhen has always been a trail blazer for China.The result of that pioneering means Shenzhen is at the forefront of China?s economic reform.In China this leadership is recognized as ?Shenzhen Speed?!This speed of development and incredible growth are the trademark of the city.It is in Shenzhen that the Chinese people were first exposed to the fashions and dressing styles in the West.In turn Shenzhen absorbed these trends and spread these global fashion influences across China.三是包容。深圳是一座“國(guó)際化的移民城市”。深圳人，不僅來(lái)自中國(guó)的五湖四海，也來(lái)自世界的五大洲。各種文化、思想在這里兼收并蓄、交匯融合，深圳的時(shí)裝也是中西合璧、多彩繽紛。

Third, Shenzhen is advancing as a highly cosmopolitan city.Shenzhen is now an international city of migrants.Its people come from all over China and many parts of the world.Here, eastern and western cultures and ideas blend and inspire each other.It is now a melting point of creativity that has formed a diverse and unique Shenzhen culture.今天的深圳其實(shí)就是當(dāng)代中國(guó)的一個(gè)縮影。改革開放30多年，古老的中國(guó)不斷煥發(fā)青春，經(jīng)濟(jì)社會(huì)取得了前所未有的發(fā)展，與世界的關(guān)系發(fā)生了歷史性的改變，中華民族正在實(shí)現(xiàn)偉大復(fù)興，同時(shí)為構(gòu)建一個(gè)和平、繁榮、和諧的世界貢獻(xiàn)自己的力量。

This is the 4th time ?Fashion Shenzhen? has been held in this world fashion city.I have confidence that this event will continue to be a showcase for Shenzhen?s fashion industry.In turn it is a great opportunity for Shenzhen designers and manufacturers to be exposed to the influences of international markets and world fashion trends.I expect this event to show China?s rich, inclusive cultural heritage.It will boost China-UK commercial relations.It is also a way to strengthen the understanding and friendship between our two nations.I wish ?Fashion Shenzhen? a great success!

As Chairman Liu Peng said, this is the first time that a 'China House' has been set up during a Summer Olympic Games.It will provide a superb reception centre for the Chinese Olympic Committee during the thirtieth Olympiad in London.來(lái)到這個(gè)“家”，我個(gè)人有幾點(diǎn)突出的感受：

This 'House' has impressed me in the following aspects.首先，這個(gè)“家”，它門窗敞開、熱情周到，是開放好客的?！爸袊?guó)之家”歡迎所有奧林匹克大家庭成員，歡迎大家與中國(guó)體育代表團(tuán)、中國(guó)奧委會(huì)合作伙伴及中國(guó)媒體在此交流切磋，它是我們共同的家，是“友誼之家”。

First, this 'House' is open, warm and hospitable.This means that 'China House' can welcome all members of the Olympic Family.This enables China to contribute greatly to the values of the Olympic spirit.I know that 'China House' will warmly welcome and encourage exchanges and interactions with the Chinese sports delegation, partners of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Chinese media.It is a 'House' for us all.It is a 'House' of friendship.第二，這個(gè)“家”，它布置精巧、陳列考究、內(nèi)容豐富，令人賞心悅目。走進(jìn)“中國(guó)之家”，就感到濃濃的中國(guó)文化氛圍。在布展方面，“中國(guó)之家”既設(shè)立了奧林匹克專題展覽，生動(dòng)體現(xiàn)中國(guó)的奧運(yùn)故事，同時(shí)中國(guó)駐英國(guó)大使館在此舉辦中英建立大使級(jí)外交關(guān)系40周年專題展，全面介紹中英兩國(guó)關(guān)系的發(fā)展歷程。

Secondly I am very much impressed how this 'House' is pleasing to the eye.The finest décor and furnishings carry a strong Chinese flavour.This 'House' also has a lot to tell through its exhibitions.As you can see, there is a thematic exhibition telling China's Olympic story.In addition, the Chinese Embassy has also sponsored a display here on the 40 years of full diplomatic relations between China and UK.第三，這個(gè)“家”，它張燈結(jié)彩、喜氣洋洋，充滿好兆頭。我相信中國(guó)運(yùn)動(dòng)員定能在本屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)上發(fā)奮拼搏，再創(chuàng)佳績(jī)。我要告訴大家，中國(guó)大使館已經(jīng)預(yù)訂于8月9日在這里為中國(guó)奧運(yùn)健兒舉辦慶功晚會(huì)，同唱?jiǎng)倮?，共飲慶功酒。我還要告訴大家，我已經(jīng)為慶功晚會(huì)請(qǐng)到了“神秘嘉賓”前來(lái)獻(xiàn)藝助興。

Decorated with lanterns and festoons, it will bring good luck!I know that Chinese athletes will compete actively in the true Olympic spirit and set new records.So, I can tell you now that the Chinese Embassy has planned to throw a 'Victory Party' for Chinese athletes here at 'China House' on August 9th!You can be sure that we will sing and toast to our great success!On top of this, I have invited a 'secret guest' to the party!The performance of this 'secret guest' will add to our celebration!

為發(fā)展中國(guó)與世界各國(guó)的友好關(guān)系，增進(jìn)世界各國(guó)人民對(duì)中國(guó)語(yǔ)言文化的理解，為各國(guó)漢語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)者提供方便、優(yōu)良的學(xué)習(xí)條件，中國(guó)國(guó)家對(duì)外漢語(yǔ)教學(xué)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)小組辦公室將在世界上有需求、有條件的若干國(guó)家建設(shè)以開展?jié)h語(yǔ)教學(xué)為主要活動(dòng)內(nèi)容的 “孔子學(xué)院”，并在中國(guó)北京設(shè)立“孔子學(xué)院總部”。

It gives me great pleasure to attend the inauguration of the Confucius Classroom at St Mary’s Bryanston Square CE Primary School.I wish to offer my warm congratulations to all of you.我就任中國(guó)駐英大使以來(lái)，曾經(jīng)到訪英國(guó)的許多學(xué)校，包括大學(xué)和中學(xué)，今天是我第一次走進(jìn)英國(guó)的小學(xué)。圣瑪麗小學(xué)與中國(guó)有著特殊淵源，因?yàn)橹袊?guó)大使館一些外交官的子女就在圣瑪麗小學(xué)上學(xué)。他們?cè)谶@里學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)和各種知識(shí)，與老師、同學(xué)們相處得十分融洽，學(xué)習(xí)非常愉快。I have been to many secondary schools and universities in this country since my arrival in London.But St Mary’s is the first primary school I have ever visited.It has a special bond with the Chinese Embassy, as some of my colleagues’ children study here.I’m glad to say that they are enjoying their time at St Mary’s, learning English and other subjects and making friends with teachers and classmates.我曾不止一次地問(wèn)使館的孩子們：英國(guó)小學(xué)好，還是中國(guó)小學(xué)好？結(jié)果，剛來(lái)的孩子都說(shuō)中國(guó)的好，來(lái)的時(shí)間長(zhǎng)的孩子都說(shuō)英國(guó)的好。我相信，隨著他們長(zhǎng)大，他們會(huì)說(shuō)，都好。圣瑪麗小學(xué)將給他們留下一段終生難忘的美好回憶。在此，我要對(duì)西敏寺市及圣瑪麗小學(xué)長(zhǎng)期以來(lái)給予中國(guó)駐英使館的支持和幫助表示衷心的感謝。

I once asked them which they like better, attending school here or in China.I got mixed answers.Those children who have newly arrived prefer their old schools in China, while others who have been here longer liked their British schools more.Maybe as they grow up, they would like both.I would like to thank the City of Westminster and St Mary’s for their longstanding support and assistance to the Chinese Embassy and for providing kids of the Embassy a wonderful and memorable place to study in.今天，圣瑪麗小學(xué)與中國(guó)的關(guān)系又加深了一層，倫敦南岸大學(xué)中醫(yī)孔子學(xué)院在圣瑪麗小學(xué)設(shè)立了孔子課堂。這是目前在英國(guó)設(shè)立的第54個(gè)孔子課堂，也是倫敦南岸大學(xué)中醫(yī)孔子學(xué)院設(shè)立的第7個(gè)孔子課堂。借此機(jī)會(huì)，我也愿對(duì)倫敦南岸大學(xué)多年來(lái)為推廣漢語(yǔ)教學(xué)、增進(jìn)中英了解作出的積極努力，表示贊賞和感謝。

Today the bonds between St Mary’s and China have been further strengthened thanks to the new Confucius Classroom set up by St Mary’s and the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine at LSBU, the London South Bank University.This is the 54th Confucius Classroom in the UK and the 7th one established by the LSBU Confucius Institute.I must thank the LSBU for its consistent efforts to promote mandarin learning in Britain and to increase mutual understanding between China and the UK.孔子課堂為什么在英國(guó)這么受歡迎？其作用和意義又是什么呢？我認(rèn)為主要有三點(diǎn)： Why are the Confucius Classrooms so popular in the UK? I believe this is mainly because they serve the following purposes: 第一是教授中文。在中國(guó)，英語(yǔ)已列入從小學(xué)至大學(xué)的必修課。同樣，在英國(guó)，“漢語(yǔ)熱”近年來(lái)也是持續(xù)升溫。英國(guó)超過(guò)500所中小學(xué)開設(shè)了中文課程，部分學(xué)校甚至將中文列入了必修課。去年9月，英國(guó)政府將中文列入了GCSE的正式科目?？鬃诱n堂具有專業(yè)、優(yōu)質(zhì)的中文師資力量，可以很好地滿足學(xué)生們學(xué)習(xí)中文的需要。

First, teaching mandarin.In China, English learning is now compulsory from the very first year in primary school right to the university level.I’m also glad to see an emerging “mandarin fever” in this country.Mandarin is now being taught in over 500 primary and secondary schools, and some of them have made it a compulsory course.In September 2009, the British government made Chinese another GCSE subject.The Confucius Classrooms offer high quality and professional mandarin teachers, who are able to meet growing needs of learning mandarin.第二是介紹中國(guó)文化。語(yǔ)言不僅是一項(xiàng)交流工具，它更是一把鑰匙、一雙翅膀，學(xué)習(xí)掌握了它，你就能打開不同文化的大門，飛越不同文化間的障礙。中國(guó)的文化，既古老、又現(xiàn)代，古老是因?yàn)樗哂猩詈竦臍v史積淀，現(xiàn)代是因?yàn)樗c時(shí)俱進(jìn)?？梢哉f(shuō)，中國(guó)文化就如同一本引人入勝的書籍。

Second, introducing Chinese culture.Language is not only a means of communication, but also gives learners an extra pair of wings to fly over cultural barriers.The Chinese culture is both old and new, old in terms of its profound roots in our time-honoured history, and new in the sense of China’s fast development and change.It is like a book that makes very interesting reading.第三是增進(jìn)人民間友誼。友誼建立在了解的基礎(chǔ)之上?？鬃诱n堂深植于英國(guó)的中小學(xué)校，在英國(guó)的年輕一代灑下了中英友誼的種子，其影響是長(zhǎng)遠(yuǎn)的，必將促進(jìn)兩國(guó)人民的世代友好。Third, deepening the friendship between our peoples.Friendship is based on mutual understanding.The presence of Confucius Classrooms at British schools will go a long way to strengthening the friendship between our peoples and will sow the seeds of China-UK friendship in the hearts of the younger generation.孔子曰：知之者不如好之者，好之者不如樂(lè)之者。希望圣瑪麗小學(xué)的同學(xué)們?cè)诳鬃诱n堂里，學(xué)習(xí)（LEARN）、喜歡(LIKE)和熱愛(ài)(LOVE)中國(guó)語(yǔ)言和文化，感受和享受其中的快樂(lè)，更希望你們長(zhǎng)大后做中英友好的傳承人和中英合作的促進(jìn)者。
