Human resource is the most important thing in the world now.The deepening of economic globalization calls for new breakthroughs, leading to severe competition, esp.of education and talents.We need to develop and elevate education no matter in the way of consolidating and strengthening the competitiveness of HK or in the way of promoting China’s reform and opening-up and modernization.I’m convinced that HKU and the other higher-learning institutions will continue to develop their advantages, integrate, innovate, and extensively pool resources with a view to fostering more talents, producing more fruits, and making more contributions.培養(yǎng)新型人才對教育事業(yè)提出了新的要求，大學不僅承擔著傳播知識、科學研究的責任，而且肩負著傳承文化、服務社會的使命，港大百年校慶的主題是“知識、傳承、服務”，這反映了教育促進人的全面發(fā)展的理念和功能。香港高校背靠祖國，又置身于國際化大都市，在弘揚中華優(yōu)秀文化、提升香港文化品質、豐富社會精神方面，可以發(fā)揮重要作用；在優(yōu)化人力資源的配置、促進教學科研成果的應用、使廣大民眾參與和共享社會發(fā)展進步方面，也大有可為。

Fostering new type of talents entails new requirements for education.Universities not only shoulder the responsibility of imparting knowledge and conducting scientific research, but also are endowed with the mission of inheriting culture and serving the society.This centennial ceremony’s theme is “knowledge, inheritance, and service”, which demonstrates the function of education: developing a whole person.Hong Kong universities, in the international metropolis, can play significant roles in carrying on Chinese fine traditions and cultures, elevating HK culture, and enriching the social culture.They also have great possibilities in optimizing human resource allocation, promoting the application of teaching and research fruits, appealing to civilians to be actively engaged in and sharing social progress, etc..香港的繁榮與祖國的建設，需要千千萬萬掌握現(xiàn)代知識技能、熟悉國情區(qū)情、通曉國際規(guī)則的人才，需要加強內地和香港教育交流。在這方面，香港和內地已經建立了有效的合作機制，采取了許多措施。今天在我們慶祝港大百年的時候，我想特別的告訴大家，從明年開始，中央有關部門將設立專項資金，每年支持1000名港大的學生和老師到內地去學習、考察和開展科研工作；同時，國家將支持香港其他高校與內地高校開展廣泛而深入的合作，為幫助師生們了解內地、熟悉國情提供條件，促進內地和香港教育科技事業(yè)的共同發(fā)展。

The prosperity of HK and the construction of our motherland need countless talents who’re equipped with modern knowledge and techniques, familiar with national situations, know well international routines.Thus we need to enhance the educational exchanges between HK and the mainland.In this regard, HK and the mainland have established efficient mechanism of cooperation and adopted many measures.Today when we celebrate the centennial of HKU, I’d like to tell you, in particular, that, from the next year, the central government will set up exclusive fund and sponsor 1000 faculty members and students to study, inspect, and conduct research in the mainland;in the meanwhile, it will also sponsor the other higher-learning institutions to conduct extensive and in-depth cooperation with the mainland ones, helping HK faculty and students know more about the mainland as well as promoting the mutual development of the educational and scientific, and technological cause of HK and the mainland.老師們、同學們、朋友們！

第四篇：清華大學百年校慶和香港大學百年校慶有哪些不同之處

1911年，幾乎同時，清政府創(chuàng)辦了清華大學，港英政府創(chuàng)辦了香港大學。2011年，兩校同時迎來百年華誕。先大概介紹一下兩校的由來：

清華大學（英語：Tsinghua University，簡稱：THU），原稱國立清華大學、清華學校、清華學堂。創(chuàng)建于1911年，最初為清政府利用美國退還的部分庚子賠款所建立留美預科學校―遊美學務處‖及附設―肄業(yè)館‖，自1925年始設大學部。

香港大學（英語：The University of Hong Kong，簡稱 HKU），香港第一所大學，由1887年成立的「香港西醫(yī)學院」及「香港官立技術專科學?！购喜⒍?，大學于1911年在香港島正式創(chuàng)立，孫中山為港大醫(yī)學院首屆畢業(yè)生。

** 注意到其實清華的大學部是1925年才創(chuàng)立的?；蛘甙凑涨迦A的算法，香港大學應算1887就有了。（這些細枝末節(jié)的差異不足為怪，學校都流行把歷史算的悠久些。我的高中動輒就說自己二百八十多年校慶，笑我蛋疼。）

兩校同為頂尖學府，根據QS世界大學排名（以及英國泰晤士報的排名）香港大學連續(xù)三年力壓東京大學排名亞洲第一，世界第21。清華只稍遜風騷，搖擺于世界50名上下，但仍當之無愧一流大學。

其實我認為大學排名是件很愚蠢的事情，細究一下排名的算法，發(fā)現(xiàn)兩校很多方面都不相伯仲。清華只在三項上明顯落后：―國際教師素質‖，―國際學生素質‖和―學術期刊發(fā)表質量‖。前兩項只是因為清華受到了中文教研的制約，屬于客觀因素。至于最后衡量學術產出的那項，我認為當歸咎于內地學術界風氣不振，學霸官僚做派盛行。這使得很多留美優(yōu)秀的年輕教授不敢直接回國任教，往往他們選擇以香港為歸國跳板，在香港的大學拼到功成名就后，再回國自己搖身變成學霸或官僚，這樣一來，這些人學術活力最盛，產出最高的那些年都貢獻給了香港大學。（這樣的例子比比皆是，例如白重恩，李稻葵，汪丁丁。有興趣的人可以看看清華經管或北大CCER的牛教授名單，看看他們中有多少人是在香港熬出頭后回去圈地圈錢的。）

** 其實三校間密切的人事流動（還有北大）可不僅是近年來的事情。追溯回1911年，當時的中國何等的饑寒貧弱，后又飽經戰(zhàn)亂之苦，使得近代中國很多學術泰斗都選擇安身香港。（如北大老校長蔡元培死在香港大學）這卻成就了早期的香港大學，一時成了學界泰斗們的集結地。

言歸正傳，這兩所關系如此緊密的學府在百年校慶的方案卻大為不同。管中窺豹可見一斑，也許以此可以體察一下兩地大學氛圍的區(qū)別：

隨著胡core蒞臨母校，校長書記率千余眾恭迎圣駕，清華百年校慶終于到達了高潮。這些日子清華百年之慶祝輿論沸沸揚揚，―人人網好友新鮮事‖每天都被我那幾百個表忠心的清華兄弟們刷屏。相比之下，香港大學的百年校慶卻低調得讓人不可思議。低調得頗有梅花之風范，―俏也不爭春，只把春來報；待到山花爛漫時，她在從中笑‖ 香港大學官方說，客觀上大學沒有具體的誕辰日，于是百年校慶不設具體日子。一切從簡，各種小型學術性紀念活動分散安排，跨度約為一年。反之，清華的百年校慶有明確具體的日期，4月23號（今天），我不清楚這個校慶日是如何確立的。

在清華的百年校慶網站上: http://100.tsinghua.edu.cn/cn/index.do 正中間是胡boss回母校被熱烈簇擁的大照片以及半個頁面的報道，然后下面有吳邦國委員長來校視察的視頻新聞。頁面右上是校電視臺直播百年校慶的節(jié)目單以及交通管制的通知。(給我的第一印象是，清華果然如日中天，面子真大)。頁面右中是清華收到的各類社會捐贈（給我的第二印象是，香港大學的某幾位校友們原來很喜歡向清華捐贈以表忠心）。在頁面左下我查到了校慶系列活動（儀式）：

唯獨一個算是政商界人士的研討會是―對話美國前財長保爾森‖

（印象就五個字：真他媽學術。）。。。。

記得當年在北大讀書的時候，經院有個叫曹和平的教授曾經語重心長的跟我們抱怨：―現(xiàn)在北大的孩子們很多愿意跑去香港。膚淺….香港哪里是個做學問的地方？那個地方太浮躁….‖ 現(xiàn)在想想，我笑了。

。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

p.s.1: 還有一些有趣的細節(jié)： 港大有幾個在商界政界叱詫風云的校友（比如，曾鈺成，任志剛，梁錦松，陳方安生，范徐麗泰）也回母校逛了逛，可是校方沒敢有大動靜，估計是怕再被學生會痛罵―重商重官‖。學生會算你們丫狠，李嘉誠好心捐了10個億也被罵成屎，現(xiàn)在大家都學乖了，捐錢都去清華捐。我確實覺得香港大學的輿論對商人和官員也太過敏感了，當年溫總來演講，有人跳出來痛斥學校諂媚。我哥們兒陳子堅（主席）應陳云林邀請赴京參加國慶活動又被人指獻媚。

不過這點我很羨慕清華，主要還是胡總太牛逼，罩的住，不服不行。就算港大再清高，如果孫中山從石棺里爬出來回訪母校逛逛，徐立之也該馬首是瞻的。

p.s.2: 香港大學與清華既是同年誕生，想畢當年定有一番淵源。我懷揣好奇，想在網上查找早年港大與清華間的趣聞軼事。怎知網上普天蓋地的都是關于―上清華還是上港大‖的罵戰(zhàn)。原來是近些年來有媒體炒作清華北大二流說，又莫名其妙的把香港大學推到風口浪尖。借高考狀元比例來調撥關系，小爺我最憤恨大學之間較勁（同樣反敢Stanford-Berkeley死磕, 更反敢常青藤聯(lián)校內部死磕）一是因為如此目光短淺，像井底之蛙一般；二是參與者多有利用母校抬高自己的嫌疑。―不自限其昏與庸而力學不倦者，自力者也‖，學問本來就是自己在做，學校給的只是環(huán)境。清華園走出的永遠人才濟濟，藏龍臥虎（誰不服可以單挑當今圣上和太子）。說清華二流的人，你們自己又是幾流呢？

p.s.3: 我一直在猶豫是否寫此文，因為略有給清華高調校慶潑冷水的嫌疑。我人生中實在有太多出自清華的鐵哥們兒，不可以掃大家的興。其實我只是拿香港大學和清華為例子諷刺一下內地學界的浮躁。清華還是清華，自強不息，厚德載物的清華；遵循行勝于言的清華。浮躁是全社會的寫照，與清華無關。（香港大學也很浮躁，不一樣的浮躁法，回頭有空再細說。）

p.s.4: 今天寫的多有贊美母校之意，也算一表忠心了。其實我很內疚了，看到我這么多清華哥們兒紛紛表達對母校的思念和敬意，我覺得自己對母校關注的實在太少了（我是上個月才意識到，原來香港大學也一百歲了。）其實我跟母校的感情并不深（找打），主要是去了香港之后仍對燕園的歲月與一幫兄弟們念念不忘。再加上港大對我功課成績上的壓迫與北大的輕松活潑形成了反差，讓我一直沒有在情感上將自己和母校綁定在一起。那時的我，頗有些生當港大男，死當北大鬼的意思?，F(xiàn)在想想，雖然我不敢用母校來抬高自己，不過還是打心眼里為母校而感到驕傲。

衷心祝愿香港大學越來越好，因為她是我的母校。衷心祝愿清華大學越來越好，因為她是家鄉(xiāng)的大學。

一百年前，她們的誕生都出于一個目的：師夷長技以自強，that’s all that matters….

尊敬的李克強副總理，袁貴仁部長，校監(jiān)先生，各位來賓，各位香港大學大家庭的成員：

Good morning!

早安！

And, on behalf of The University of Hong Kong, I would like to welcome you to the University this morning and, at the same time,thank you for coming to celebrate with us the University’s Centenary.我謹代表香港大學歡迎各位蒞臨本校，并多謝大家出席今天的百周年校慶典禮。

The last century has witnessed tremendous changes in Hong Kong,China and around the world, be it technological,economical,social or political.回顧過去一個世紀，香港大學見證了香港、中國、以至全球，在科技、經濟、社會和政治方面翻天覆地的轉變。

The University has also moved with the times over the past 100 years and evolved from an institute with only three areas of studies to a comprehensive university of many disciplines.As members of the international academe, we share the global challenges at the forefront of higher education developments.在過去這一百年，香港大學與時并進，由一所只有三個學院的教育機構，發(fā)展成為今日設有多元學科的綜合型大學。港大作為國際學術界一員，與同儕共同面對全球高等教育發(fā)展的種種挑戰(zhàn)。

Indeed,the birth of this first and foremost University was an important part of the history of Hong Kong and China.It was the result of the combined efforts of the two governments,in Hong Kong and in Canton(now Guangdong),despite the rather delicate Sino-British relations in the last years of the Qing Dynasty.It could have been an impossible dream, had it not been for those who believed in the need for a university in Hong Kong and the generosity of those who wished to see one built for China and the world.作為香港的第一所大學，香港大學的誕生絕對是香港和中國歷史的重要一部份。雖然當時正值英國與晚清關系微妙時期，但在香港與廣東政府共同努力下，港大結果順利成立。當然，這個夢想最終能夠如愿以償，全賴一群深信香港需要建立一所大學的有識之士，以及一眾希望能夠為中國及世界建立一所優(yōu)質大學的熱心人士的慷慨捐助。

The University of Hong Kong was formally established in 1911;however,it has been a constant debate among our alumni and the community at large as to whether the University should be dated back to 1887,the year when the College of Medicine for Chinese was established in Hong Kong.Adding to this debate was the famous quote from Dr Sun Yat-sen,one of the first graduates of the College:Hesaid,“I feel as though I have returned home because Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong are the birthplace of my knowledge.”That was what Dr Sun told the students in this great hall,back in 1923.香港大學于1911年正式成立，然而，我們的舊生與社會大眾經常討論應否追溯至1887年，以港大前身-香港西醫(yī)書院成立之時為始；尤其是該書院首屆畢業(yè)生孫中山先生，在1923年，就在這個大禮堂內，與學生所說的一番話，他說：“我有如游子歸家，因為香港與香港大學是我知識的誕生地”。

Despite these academic arguments,generations of scholars,students and alumni have so shaped HKU that it has gained a momentum of its own,transcending time and changes,as a university should.The enlightenment of teaching and learning at the University is now further enriched by the wealth of groundbreaking research.Our graduates have moved beyond careers in

the civil service,to all sectors of society,and they have moved beyond Hong Kong.儘管經常有這種學術爭論，但在歷代的學者、學生及校友的共同努力下，港大跨越了時間與轉變的考驗，成為一所充滿動力的學府。港大除了提供活潑的教學與學習環(huán)境外，亦已成為許多突破性研究的發(fā)展基地。我們的畢業(yè)生除加入政府服務或投身香港不同機構，在各個領域發(fā)揮所長外，還在海外開創(chuàng)事業(yè)，作出貢獻。

HKU remains a guardian of knowledge,an incubator of ideas and innovations,a cradle for new intellect and talent,and a pioneer in social consciousness and responsibility.今天的香港大學一如既往，是知識的捍衛(wèi)者、創(chuàng)意和創(chuàng)新的孕育者，是新進知識份子和人才的搖籃，以及社會良知和責任的先驅者。

Indeed, universities are among the most enduring institutions of any society;they are its soul and they bring hope.誠然，大學是任何社會中最歷久不衰的機構，也是社會的靈魂，為大家?guī)硐Ｍ?/p>

It is in this spirit that we celebrate our Centenary and look into the future.Let me elaborate this further,in three aspects.我們秉持這種精神和價值，在慶祝創(chuàng)校一百周年的同時，亦展望未來。在此，本人想從三方面加以闡釋。

First,despite variations of the relationship between Hong Kong and its motherland,the University of Hong Kong has never ceased to play its unique role in contributing to China’s modernization.Apart from Sun Yat-sen,many alumni have contributed directly to the development of the Mainland in the past Century.Inaddition,HKU graduates have played essential parts in building the great modern metropolis of Hong Kong,which in turn has proved to be an asset to its motherland.首先，縱使香港與祖國的關系微妙多變，但香港大學對推動中國走向現(xiàn)代化的使命，始終如一。除了孫中山先生之外，許多位卓越的校友亦曾為建設中國貢獻良多。再者，港大畢業(yè)生對于建設香港這個現(xiàn)代化大都會一直不遺馀力，亦間接成為了祖國發(fā)展的一大資產。

However,as China moves forward, HKU must assume the responsibility to play an even bigger role at a higher level,to support and fulfill the nation’s economic and social needs HKU must see and establish itself as a key institution in China.然而，隨著中國繼續(xù)向前邁進，香港大學亦將肩負更重要的使命，以迎合中國經濟和社會的發(fā)展需要。為達成此目標，港大應當視自己為中國的一所重要的學府，并在這方面奠定自己的地位。

Second,a hundred years ago, HKU was already an international hub for intellectuals,as most,if not all,of the teachers were expatriates and two-thirds of the students were non-Chinese.Notwithstanding fluctuations in the past century, HKU has retained its international outlook.We are privileged to have a great assembly of the finest scholars, brightest students and world citizens from diverse background and cultures, all under one roof.第二，即使在一百年以前，港大已經是國際知識份子的匯集之地。我們的教師大部份為海外教授，而三分之二的學生為非華裔。盡管經歷百年的風云變幻，港大的國際定位始終不變。今天，我們匯聚了無數的優(yōu)秀學者、精英學生以及擁有多元文化背景的世界公民，這些都成就了我們的優(yōu)勢。

This international composition, which has grown well beyond the original legacy,has made us the unusual test case of being the most international institution within a Chinese community on Chinese soil.In an increasingly globalised world, HKU also has a clear responsibility to further bridge China and the world,and to facilitate the process of internationalization of higher education in China.在豐富的歷史背景下，這個國際化的社群，令我們成為中國領土上華人社群中最國際化的學府。在這個全球化發(fā)展一日千里的世代，港大毫無疑問地擔當著橋梁的角色，推進中國與世界溝通,亦將推動中國高等教育走向國際化。

Third, we cannot pretend that we are living in a stable and peaceful world.We face natural disasters almost everyday,energyshortages,globalwarming,emerging infectious diseases, recurring epidemics,man-made accidents, precarious economic crises,abrupt social turmoil and unwanted wars.We know that some of these are unavoidable, so we have to do our best to mitigate or learn to overcome their effects with our scientific knowledge and technological advancements.For the entirely avoidable ones, however, we have a responsibility to safeguard sustainable development,and to champion the restoration of human values.第三，我們必須明白，我們身處的世界并非穩(wěn)定和平。我們每天面對不斷發(fā)生的天災事故、能源短缺、全球暖化、突如其來的傳染疾病、一再發(fā)生的大型疫癥，再加上種種的人為意外、難以預料的經濟危機、突發(fā)的社會**，還有令人扼腕的戰(zhàn)亂紛爭。我們知道上述種種問題，有時無可避免，正因如此，我們更應當憑科學知識和嶄新科技，盡力減輕和克服這些問題?？墒?，對于能夠加以避免的難題時，我們確有責任爭取可持續(xù)發(fā)展，捍衛(wèi)人文價值的重建。

In this respect,we have to thank HKU’s founders for their wisdom in choosing the brilliant university motto“mingdegewu”(明德格物).為此，我們?yōu)楦鄞髣?chuàng)校先賢留給我們“明德格物”這句校訓心存感恩。

Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to switch to Chinese for a moment.“明德”、“格物”是香港大學的校訓。二語都出自“四書”中的《大學》，是儒家“修身齊家治國平天下”的學說。簡單來說，港大學生需要“明德”，使與生俱來的光明皎潔的德性，彰顯出來，并將它發(fā)揚光大，推己及人；同時，又必需要有“格物”這個基本工夫，來窮究事物的原理，追求淵博的知識。從“格物”、“致知”，到“明明德于天下”，不只是求學的道理，也是做人的道理。

所以我們很感謝先賢給我們的校訓–“明德”、“格物”；這個道理不只是適用于過去港大的一百年、或者是中華文化的五千年，在今天和將來的地球村更是意義重大。而我們校訓的拉丁文版本（Sapientia et Virtus）也是從中文翻譯過去的。

Ladies and gentlemen, I just explained the origin of our HKU motto, which came from the Chinese Classic Great Learning.Although it was beautifully translated into Latin: Sapientia et Virtus,meaning wisdom and virtue, in English, the translation could only capture part of the original essence.各位來賓，剛才我用中文粗略解析港大校訓內容，是源自“四書”中的《大學》，雖然譯成優(yōu)美的拉丁文Sapientia et Virtus，即英文的wisdom和virtue，但這個翻譯也許仍未能完全捕捉原文的神髓。

In any case, it is in the context of wisdom and virtue that we celebrate our Centenary.The dimensions of“knowledge, heritage and service”represent the missions of our multiple roles to be a knowledge hub for learning and research, a cultural crossroads where East meets West and the past illuminates the future, and a service platform where the University nurtures global citizens and is itself nurtured by the community.今日我們慶祝創(chuàng)校一百周年，就是要發(fā)揚“明德”、“格物”的真義。我們以“知識、傳承、服務”來展示大學的使命和任務：努力成為學習與研究的學術樞紐；薈萃東西文化以承先啟后；建立一個培育國際公民，并為社會所珍惜的服務平臺。

Amidst our festive celebrations,we could not help asking ourselves: What do we treasure? HKU is a community that cherishes openness, diversity and freedom, which have evolved into our core values.These values have made us a pluralistic and harmonious community of people from various backgrounds and diverse cultures.These same values have also liberated the intellectual potential among academics and students, and have hence unleashed the energies essential for sustaining and advancing a vibrant community of academic excellence.際此百年校慶，讓我們反思一下，港大的核心價值在于什么？港大代表著一個重視開放思想、多元文化和崇尚自由的社群，這些價值均與港大的核心價值緊扣。這些價值讓來自不同文化背景的人，能夠建立一個多元而和諧的社群。正因為建基于這些價值觀，釋放了學者與學生之間的知識潛能，為孜孜不倦追求學術成就的社群注入了巨大的力量。

Ladies and Gentlemen,the University of Hong Kong had modest beginnings.It has been the hard work of all members of the HKU Family,which includes our staff,students and alumni,and the unfailing support of both the Government and the community at large,especially our donors and partners who believe in our cause,that have brought us to where we are today in the international arena.各位來賓，香港大學創(chuàng)始于謙微。它的成功來自港大這個大家庭的每一位成員，包括我們老師和學生的努力，校友、政府和廣大市民的不斷鼓勵支持，尤其要感謝我們每一位捐助者，他們不但認同我們的目標，亦讓我們能夠昂然立足于今日的國際舞臺上。

As the world continues to change,HKU will continue to evolve,and we are committed to keeping ourselves at the forefront of developments of humankind.We aim high,and tolerate no compromise in quality,ethics,socialresponsibility,and human values.We think globally,and position ourselves in the national context and the international arena.It will be our vision for excellence,our aspiration for freedom,our devotion to student learning.and,our commitment to society that will guide us through the next 100 years.世界瞬息萬變，香港大學將會與時并進，致力作為人文發(fā)展進程的先驅。我們謹此訂立崇高的目標，對求真、道德、社會責任、人文關懷，不容一絲妥協(xié)。我們會以國際思維，建立全國性與國際性的定位。放眼未來，我們將致力追求卓越，并以堅執(zhí)自由、盡心教學、培育人才、傳承智慧、貢獻社會為信念，昂首闊步，邁向另一個100年。
