我在英語聽力與閱讀訓練方面的成功經(jīng)驗(長篇實踐文章)
第一,選擇聽力材料要符合個人實際水平。太難或太容易都不好。(你可以聽懂百分之六十以上的材料,我選擇的是西安外語學院的英語新聞聽力,上海海文出版社的標準美語聽力,北京外語學院的中級聽力和高級聽力。另外還從網(wǎng)上下載了BBC/VOA等時事新聞節(jié)目。)
第二,反復聽十遍還聽不清楚,就要查對原文,以便搞清問題出在那里。有針對性地學習。(材料最好要有標準文字說明,以便對照,免得胡亂猜測,起步階段一定要結(jié)合教材和文字說明學習。不要機械地模仿鐘教授,如果你感覺仍然太難,就需要重新選擇聽力材料,減少難度,增加自信心。這個階段會遇到許多困難,隨時可能失去信心。)
第三,練習完整地聽懂一句話之后再默寫。
第四,大聲跟讀。可以邊看著記錄稿,邊跟播音員朗讀。并把自己的聲音錄下來,糾正語音。(很多人在這點上犯錯誤,太懶?;蛘咝哂陂_口)
第五,練習精聽的同時,加大泛聽練習。選擇完全新的材料,只聽一到三遍,掌握大意即可。同時養(yǎng)成每天堅持聽英語廣播的習慣。(泛聽材料是海文出版社的標準美語入門,VOA的慢速英語;北京人民大學的英語綠地,美國ABC電視新聞,以及各種有興趣的聽力材料。我對于泛聽比較重視。先選一些比較容易的材料,練習一遍全部聽懂的能力;再堅持聽比較難的廣播電視新聞。)
第六,逐漸培養(yǎng)一遍聽懂的能力。只在特別難的地方才用聽寫法。(這是逐漸培養(yǎng)出來的,沒有說是一開始就用這個辦法)
第七,加強閱讀練習。選擇有一定難度的閱讀材料,練習快速閱讀。遇到生詞查英英詞典。特別注意閱讀網(wǎng)上最新的英語背景新聞,以便聽的時候減少難度。
第八,練習寫作??梢园崖犨^的內(nèi)容用自己的話寫出梗概。另外多練習用英語生詞造句。(可用口頭復述練習)
第九,練習漢翻英。最好找一些有標準譯文的材料,先自己翻譯,再對照范文學習。特別注意把握英語與中文之間的微妙關系。(新概念就是很好的練習資料)
第十,每天保持相當量的練習。只有練到一定的數(shù)量,才能在大腦中構(gòu)造一個英語區(qū)。以后再說英語時就不會出現(xiàn)英漢互相干擾的問題了。
以上是我本人花了三千小時練習英語逆向法的真實體會。供參考。

怎樣聽?
精聽的好方法是逆向法。
我的具體做法是,先完整地把一條新聞聽一到三遍,爭取掌握大意。然后,一句一句精聽,力爭每句話都聽明白。遇到實在不懂的地方,再聽寫。根據(jù)我的實際水平,我選擇了專業(yè)英語大三和大四的新聞聽力教材作為起步階段的聽力材料。此外,每個月安排幾天時間,完整地把幾十條標準英語新聞聽寫好。遇到難點,及時核對原文,搞清楚問題出在何處。
泛聽是逆向法比較忽視的方法。其實,泛聽不比精聽次要。我在泛聽過程中經(jīng)歷了幾個階段。先是把它當作音樂聽。主要為了熟悉語音,語調(diào)和語氣等。這個階段可能聽不懂內(nèi)容,但是不要緊,它有助于提高英語聽覺的敏感性。有時睡覺時都戴著耳機,做夢時耳邊還有英語的聲音。在這個階段,千萬別急于搞清楚磁帶里說的什么,只是聽聲音。如果老想聽清內(nèi)容,就會有深深的挫折感,甚至懷疑自己頭腦很苯,不適于學英語。而有了這種意念,就會真地使一個健康的人變成英語的弱智者。附帶說一句,根據(jù)觀察,許多音樂感覺好的人學習英語聽力和口語比較容易。人的大腦中,負責音樂和語言的腦區(qū)有一致性。我在大學時,學校交響樂團的幾個小提琴手都會說不錯的英語。
接下來,就要認真練習在泛聽中掌握大意。這個過程比較難。建議在選擇泛聽材料時,先選容易的開始。比如多聽慢速英語廣播,最好是實時練習聽VOA的SPECIAL ENGLISH節(jié)目,包括聽其中的專題報道和小說播講。第一遍聽大意,第二和第三遍聽細節(jié)。由此過度到聽大學專業(yè)英語的中級聽力磁帶。我認為,上海海文出版社的標準英語聽力入門是很好的泛聽材料。其程度介于慢速英語和標準英語之間。而且信息量大。練習聽力千萬不可小看慢速英語。學習者如果達到一遍完全聽懂VOA慢速英語的各種廣播節(jié)目,就可以說基本掌握了英語(作為一種外語)。建議學友們在苦讀新概念英語的時候,也給予慢速英語一定的位置。實際上,只靠一套教材(如新概念英語),是無法學會英語聽力的。
再下來,就要練習泛聽標準英語了。這是最難也是最有趣的練習。我的方法是步步跟蹤語音,不在生詞上糾纏,快速把握大意。第一遍聽懂一半;后兩遍聽懂百分之七十以上。達不到這個水平,則說明材料過深了,可以暫時放一放。順便說一下,許多泛聽材料也可以作為精聽材料,有時間時用聽寫法一句句扣懂它。
如果泛聽標準英語時達到一遍聽懂百分之七八十的水平,就具備了專業(yè)英語本科生的水平。也就是說,自學英語的基本功階段已經(jīng)完成任務。這是很了不起的事情。值得慶賀一番。
最后,練習精聽泛聽都離不開閱讀水平。道理是,成年人學習聽力是在學習閱讀之后進行的,所以大腦的思維程序是,先把聽到的聲音轉(zhuǎn)為文字,再領會意義。也就是說,能否聽懂取決于能否讀懂。當聽力提高到幾乎自己認得的詞都能聽懂時,再提高就需要閱讀水平也上一個臺階。培養(yǎng)閱讀能力要注意快速讀懂??梢园褧r鐘設定在十分鐘左右,硬要求自己讀完三千字的文章,并且了解主要內(nèi)容。可以把閱讀材料按照難易程度分成幾個級別,循序漸進。具體方法可以參考美國出品的英語教學軟件GLOBAL ENGLISH,此教材共分十級,從初級水平達到基本掌握的程度。建議你上網(wǎng)查詢這套教材,具體地址是004km.cnEWS網(wǎng)站,每天跟蹤最新時事報道。這個網(wǎng)站的文章都是原版的世界四大通訊社稿件,詞匯量很大。如有條件,還可以訂閱一份美國或海外出版的大報,每天翻閱。我堅持看香港的SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST,系由英國人編輯的百年老報紙。
至于練習漢譯英,可選擇上海出版的英語口譯一書。以及國家領導人的現(xiàn)場答記者問等直播錄像。
精讀與泛讀是閱讀訓練中的老問題。作者認為,六級英語通過后,就可以流暢地閱讀外國文學原著,這個估計明顯偏高。公外的四/六級考試無法同英語專業(yè)的四級/八級相提并論。公外六級英語通常不如專業(yè)英語四級的水平。
作者有關英語分級的觀點很有價值。中級水平是絕大部分英語學習者所處的階段。中高級水平含義很多,是一般可以簡單應付工作的英語學習者的真實狀況。所謂高級英語,不是指聽懂了高級聽力的教材就是高級水平了,到聽其他較深的材料時照樣有困難。高級英語是一個綜合概念,只有聽說讀寫水平同時提高到相應階段,才可以說學習英語進入自然成長狀態(tài)。
在英語學習中,寧愿把自己的水平低估一些,也不要太好高騖遠。慢些,再慢些。扎扎實實把基礎打牢,齊頭并進提高各項英語能力,全面進入真實的高級階段。
有關新概念
鐘教授有一觀點,認為把新概念全部背熟就可以拿下英語。這個看法不全面。以至于不少網(wǎng)友誤解為只要學好新概念一套書就足以。也許,這對于應試有用。但對于全面提高英語水平不利。學好新概念,只是打下比較扎實的英語基礎,離“拿下英語”還遠得很呢。畢竟新概念只有6000詞匯量,而且篇幅短小,不可能囊刮所有語言現(xiàn)象,表達方式。另一方面,這也正是新概念長盛不衰的原因,能讓你在最短的時間內(nèi)打下堅實的基礎。
關于第四冊,公認是有難度的(盡管詞匯量不大)。不過如果第三冊學得扎實,第四冊應該可以自學。世圖版的譯文不太好,很多地方譯錯了(或譯的不好),建議多找些譯本對照,在對比中就能發(fā)現(xiàn)哪些翻譯得好些,為什么好,哪些翻譯錯了,為什么錯(其實各譯本都有錯,其中以世圖最差,安徽科技其次,上海外教不錯,新版的也可以)。在這樣翻譯,比照的過程中語法基本功得到不斷的加強。閱讀與翻譯包括寫作能力也得到提高。
關于逆向法
一,如何增加詞匯量?
這是起步階段的大問題。生詞太多是無法聽下去的。辦法有兩個:一是先聽特別容易的材料,也就是說生詞要少,句法要簡單。比如可以從中學的英語教材聽起,也可以從慢速英語開始。這個階段主要練習聽懂自己認得的詞或讀得懂的文章,也就是先不擴大詞匯量,而是主攻聽力。一般人如果認得六千英語詞,大約也就能聽懂一千詞。因此,選擇什么材料聽,對于初學者特別重要。通過四六級的學友,可以從美國之音的慢速英語起步,或從北外的中級聽力開始。如果程度低,可以選擇從中學教材或英語900句起步。通過苦練,逐步把自己已經(jīng)認得的材料聽懂。并且邊聽,邊擴大詞匯。這個辦法很扎實,就是進度慢些。
二是加強閱讀,集中擴大詞匯量??梢再I一些簡易英語讀物,先從2,000詞匯量的書開始,一級級進步到5,000詞匯量一級的讀物,再達到掌握15,000級以上的英語書刊報紙。不過,這樣一來就不是主攻聽力,而是練習閱讀了。其實,提高聽力和增強閱讀能力是不能分開的。互相結(jié)合,一定能促進綜合英語水平的提高。
我個人主張盡量用第一種方法,一步步在練習聽力的同時擴大詞匯量。
二,逆向法如何具體操作?
如上所述,先選擇適合自己真實水平的聽力材料,千萬不要眼高手低。選太難或太容易的材料聽都不好。一般可選擇能聽懂百分之六十以上的聽力材料,然后主攻難點。
一開始可以通聽三遍,掌握大意。然后一句句或一個個詞聽寫下來。這取決每句話的難易程度。簡單的句子,可以一句句聽寫;很難的句子就只能一個個詞聽寫。我自己的做法是用復讀機一句句反復聽,只要聽明白了,就不再聽寫。只集中精力聽寫難點。有時,一句話部分聽懂了,部分聽不懂。這時可以把不懂的地方用括號圈出來,反復聽,直到聽清楚后把詞填進去。起步階段特別困難,很容易失去信心。因此一定要選合適的材料聽。先易后難,循序漸進,是學習聽力的途徑。我個人在這一點上走過彎路,剛開始選的磁帶太難了,連專業(yè)英語翻譯都覺得不容易。我還以為只要攻克最難的材料,就可以一馬平川拿下聽力。其實白花了許多功夫。希望這點教訓對你有益。
除了聽寫,還要大聲朗讀??梢愿ヒ魡T讀,并錄下音來,反復比較,提高發(fā)音質(zhì)量。順帶說一句,語音好壞直接影響聽力和口語水平。要想切實提高聽力,一定要過語音關。做到發(fā)音準確,輕重音適度,語調(diào)和語氣向老外看齊。
在具體運用逆向法時,關鍵點是反復練習,反復模仿。
三,如何給自己加壓力?
掌握英語聽力,必須讓自己整天“泡”在英語里。沒有壓力,不想聽或不想學是無法掌握英語的。最好的情況是對于英語有興趣,自覺地天天操練。當然,興趣也要培養(yǎng)。選擇合適的材料聽,容易有成就感,可以促進自己學下去。如果你練習聽力有明確的目標,那就再好不過了?;蛘呓Y(jié)合自己的工作需要練習,或者為通過托福考試,或者要到國外生活。有一個真實的故事,二戰(zhàn)時期美國盟軍為派一批人到德國軍隊刺探情報,硬要求選中的人二個月必須講一口流利的德語,并達到德國人無法分辨的水平。不管是否達到這個水平,這些人都要按時派到德國。這是要命的事情。結(jié)果所有的人都掌握了這倒霉的德語。由此可見,壓力對提高外語水平的重要性。
閱讀
閱讀是成年人學習英語的起點,也是伴隨學習過程的難點。不要以為閱讀是英語學習中最容易的部分。只要看看專業(yè)八級英語的閱讀題目,以及隨便翻翻英國經(jīng)典散文,就知道閱讀的含義了。據(jù)報道,美國越來越多的年輕人患上一種腦病,即閱讀障礙癥。文字符號對他們的頭腦構(gòu)不成刺激。
重視閱讀是第一步。不僅重視應用性的讀物,如新聞報道,文書信件,可讀性的文章小說等,還要有意識地閱讀散文哲學和其他經(jīng)典文學作品。特別是后者,閱讀起來如墜五里霧中。我曾經(jīng)讀羅素的《自由人的崇拜》,那種強烈的精神追求表現(xiàn)于姿情澎湃的優(yōu)美文字之中。其間還有深奧的哲學意念。第一遍讀時,云里霧里,間或又感覺有所觸動。不斷讀終于把握了玄機。
選擇閱讀材料要精,深,美,博。新概念第四冊的文字不少達到了這一要求,是閱讀的好材料。另外,該書的作者還有一本專門用來閱讀的教材,《ENGLISH THROUGH READING》約收入20幾篇文章,都很有價值。不知為何出版社只認《新概念》,卻把這本書冷落了。當年它是和《新概念》一起引進國內(nèi)的。據(jù)我的經(jīng)驗,上海復旦大學1995年左右的博士生英語精讀教材就很好,所選文章很講究,文學,藝術,哲學,歷史,音樂等都有涉獵,難度比《新概念》第四冊又高出若干。
練習英語閱讀可以參考小時候?qū)W習漢語閱讀的過程。通讀幾遍,用英英詞典查找生詞,反復默寫生詞,用生詞造句,抄寫課文,背誦優(yōu)美段落,寫讀書筆記。特別是抄寫課文對于正確理解內(nèi)容很有幫助。一些大翻譯家也有此習慣。此外,適當練習英翻漢可以提高閱讀的精度。
練習閱讀一定要自備幾套高質(zhì)量的工具書。牛津英英詞典,劍橋成語和俚語辭典,北京大學出版社的英語同義詞詞典,商務出版的英漢大詞典等。
練習精讀可以借助中譯本。比如《簡愛》等小說,可以選其中有價值的段落對照中譯本反復精讀。
練習泛讀可以讀驚險小說,集中精力追蹤情節(jié),不管生詞或描寫。
再有就是分級閱讀,由淺入深。
鐘教授主張精讀,遇到生詞就停下查詞典。也有學派主張精讀和泛讀并舉。我用在精讀上的時間較多,感覺其缺點是閱讀速度太慢。泛讀我只練習過看淺易小說和詞匯量在10000以內(nèi)的中級讀物,以及讀英文報紙。
創(chuàng)造個性化的學習方法
學習英語肯定要講方法。越是最適合自己的方法越有效。因此很有必要探討個性化的英語學習途徑。
一,回顧自己是怎樣學會漢語的。
我是聽會漢語的。大家也都一樣。但是我有一點不同,我的父母在家不講普通話,尤其我的母親只講蘇州話,到現(xiàn)在都是鄉(xiāng)音不改。于是,我在上小學之前,基本把蘇州話拿下,起碼聽沒有問題。以后到上海讀書,聽評彈和上海滑稽戲毫無障礙。人家很奇怪,一個北京人怎么聽得懂。至于說上海方言,我也可以大段冒充,只是有些生硬。出租司機以為我是長期在北方插隊的回城上海知識青年。
于是我反省,學英語是否可以借鑒自己的這段經(jīng)歷。從ABC起步階段,我就使用錄音機。最早聽BBC的靈格風發(fā)音磁帶,稍后聽英語900句,以后聽ESSENCIAL ENGLISH(此書當年同新概念一樣風行)和現(xiàn)代美國口語,《今日美國》,再就是聽《新概念》??傊?,從認字起就沒離開語音和聽力。當初并不很自覺?,F(xiàn)在回想起來,與我小時學說漢語有巧合之處。
二,回想自己是怎樣學會閱讀的。
我對中文特別有興趣,認字很早。從看圖識字起,不知不覺就會閱讀了。其實閱讀是有規(guī)律的。小學語文課講究抄寫課文,造句,朗讀,默寫等,遇到佳句還特意寫在小本上。這些我都在學英語時照搬過去。另外加上一些方法,例如練習英翻漢,也注意在閱讀英文原著時對照中譯本精讀。特別遇到生詞時強迫自己查英英詞典。記得剛起步時,英英詞典簡直就是天書。終于硬著頭皮頂過去了。
閱讀英語是為了使用。于是要求自己每天看英文報紙,上美國新聞網(wǎng)。起先用金山詞霸查生詞,后來發(fā)現(xiàn)這東西除了可以偷懶,沒有查英英詞典管用。于是堅決不再往電腦上安裝詞霸了。學英語要勤快。多動手,多動腦?,F(xiàn)代化的技術在帶來方便的同時也帶來懶惰。所以,后來我追隨了鐘教授的逆向法。與其說是為了解決聽力,不如說是為了鍛煉自己的勤勞和韌性。
學習中文閱讀是離不開讀古文的。同樣我們不應該厭惡古英語。不管是莎翁的劇本,還是華盛頓就職演說,都可以研讀一番。、三,回顧自己是怎樣開口的。
從嬰兒到全面學會說話,要花去18000小時,而且是在父母輔導之下。因此我從不敢企求速成學會英語。實際上也沒有速成法。到現(xiàn)在為止,我在認真練習英語聽力上花了3000小時,我家親戚大喊了不起。其實,我花去的時間還不到一個會說母語的美國少年用于聽說英語的六分之一時間。因此,我對自己聽力仍有問題一點也不回避。因為我還要長期學下去。
關于口語,我知道嬰兒張口時必須有大人的輔導。所以,我從學音標起就真心拜師,一步一步讓先生矯正發(fā)音。雖然比不上老外,但開口說話是有自信心的。
總之,學英語可以愚鈍,但不可以偷懶??梢月Τ黾毣?,但不可以一口吃成胖子。我遇到過許多考試成績優(yōu)異的年輕人,無論中國外國的英語考題都得過高分,但是其中可以自信地說,出國就能聽課的人真是不多見。許多人到了美國課堂,邊聽講邊錄音,回到家再一句句慢慢聽。我對要出國的侄兒說,你到國外練聽力還不如在中國跟我練。只要在家認真踏實地學,一定可以練出過硬的英語能力。關鍵看有沒有意志品格。如果沒有,別說英語,其他需要吃苦才能掌握的技能同樣也學不好。所以,學英語首先是學做一個艱苦奮斗的勤勞人。
最合適自己的方法才是好方法。
就像pd_dyq說的“靈活運用逆向法“那樣。baobab用逆向法學新概念也不是照搬鐘教授的聽寫說背想,而是聽寫-翻譯-(比照核對各譯本,再看參考書)-譯背(看著課本中文譯文譯回英文來背誦)-朗讀(因為譯背只達到能正確記住,但不能流利背誦)-背生詞。也就是“聽,寫,譯,背,說”之所以把跟讀朗讀放在譯背后,因為先朗讀,那么在譯背時記憶的成分遠大于譯的成分。(翻譯是逆向法里所沒有的環(huán)節(jié),逆向法第三版中鐘教授把它與閱讀一起談(baobab早在讀第三版之前就翻譯新概念了)當然也不是baobab創(chuàng)造的了,翻譯是比較傳統(tǒng)的學習方法了,不過baobab覺得在用逆向法學英語時,與其另找材料翻譯,不如翻譯課文,能更大限度地吃透課文,把基本功打得更牢固,而且,更節(jié)約時間。所以,baobab就把翻譯加入逆向法中了。
學英語“不抬杠”“不爭論”,是老一代杰出領袖的偉大發(fā)明。其實,現(xiàn)代民主的含義就是讓人各抒己見。有時候,“真理”在大多數(shù)人那里;有時候,在無名小輩一邊;更多時候,是在出版商手中。那么多網(wǎng)友都知道鐘教授,知道《千萬別學英語》,還知道“瘋狂”。其實,在他們之前已經(jīng)有許多人學會了英語,包括許許多多業(yè)余愛好英語的普通人。(任何方法都可以找到理論支持依據(jù)和反駁的依據(jù))
方法固然重要,但是不可強調(diào)過頭。每天不可不操練英語,但可以不天天研究方法。我最愛去的網(wǎng)站是“英語特快”。那里每天都有眾多愛好者的聽力帖子,好不熱鬧。我注意跟蹤過幾位愛好者,眼看他們在一年左右水平大長。比如BBC新聞,剛開始聽的朋友似乎都有聽天書之感。其實堅持下去,破譯天書也是辦得到的。學會BBC以后,聽口播專題節(jié)目,如TALK TO AMERICA,或是COAST TO COAST之類,又有弟兄姐妹們頂上去。又過了一段時間,他們中就涌現(xiàn)出聽力基本過關者。
我們既然是英語的忠實愛人,就應該纏住她不放。不管是大獻殷勤,還是葫羅卜加大棒,反正把她抓到手。正所謂“條條大道通羅馬”。愛有多深,方法就有多多??傊覀儗W英語“不抬杠”。
學習英語的秘訣是耐力加興趣。
增強耐力和興趣的錦囊妙計是隨時制訂適度的標準。
中國人學英語,特別是依靠磁帶練聽力,千萬不可把標準訂得太高。以練習聽新聞為例:
第一步,先聽會慢速英語。
第二步,聽會BBC/VOA的標準新聞報道。
第三步,聽懂故事情節(jié)強的專題報道。
第四步,學會聽比較抽象的現(xiàn)場討論。
第五步,以上各種節(jié)目都學會一遍就聽懂。這一點很難,但是一定要過關。
到這一步以后,聽老外講課和演講應該沒有問題。
把最終目標分解為幾個階段性目標有助于調(diào)動積極性。最后提一句,我們在國內(nèi)學英語一般不可能達到美國人說母語的程度。這一點不奇怪。因此,不要因為自己的英語還有障礙,而影響情緒。(客觀的判斷自己的水平和學習潛力非常難)無論是國內(nèi)學專業(yè)英語的人,還是業(yè)余愛好者,都會在學習中遇到很大困難。包括鐘教授,他運用逆向法學習好多年以后,聽老外講話還是老要想,理解有障礙。直到他出了車禍,在家養(yǎng)病時又下苦功學習很長時間,聽力才又提高一步。我計算過,鐘教授用在聽力上的時間,至少要在6000小時以上。而且他也不可能做到聽任何話題都很輕松。不信你可以發(fā)郵件詢問。我現(xiàn)在用于聽英語的時間將近3000小時,也就才達到聽專題報道的程度,而且需要三遍才明白。如果有機會,我們可以同在國外留學的人交流,特別是學文科的人,幾乎沒有人敢說英語好學的。就是在國外留學,成天不干別的事情,基礎中等以上的人也需要認真學習一年才過關。也就是說,要拿下英語,怎么也需要5000小時(呵呵,都是以千小時計的)的苦練。因此,學英語是吃苦耐勞的活。學之前先想想好,開弓沒有回頭箭。中途放棄等于浪費生命。此話當真。
一般說來,可以兩遍聽明白CNN/NPR/VOA的標準英語報道,就達到了可以直接同老外談正經(jīng)事情的程度。
自學英語要達到以上程度,是非常困難的事。一般通過六級的學友,在閱讀方面問題不太大。主要是提高閱讀速度和改善閱讀精度。而要聽懂就不容易了。我的工作單位有幾位通過六級的同事,但沒有一人達到這個水平。當我們必須與老外談重要公務時,只有請專業(yè)翻譯出馬。也就是說,六級英語還無法實際運用。這是很大的遺憾。
我還注意到一個較普遍的情況,通過六級英語的同事一般說英語的水平高過他們的聽力。有不少話能說得出,但往往聽不懂老外說的話。由于聽力的障礙,影響了交流。
提高實際運用英語的水平,需要注意幾點:快速閱讀,標準英語聽力,流暢的口語,標準英語寫作。
解決閱讀問題,要熟悉15000以上的詞匯,并必須有能力無障礙地查閱英英詞典。關于使用英英詞典,很多六級英語者并不重視,不少人甚至不會查閱英英詞典。我個人的經(jīng)驗是,不會熟練使用英英詞典,就難以登上高級英語的平臺。提高快速閱讀水平,一定要加大閱讀量,特別是大量閱讀原版材料。
有關聽力,逆向法是自學的好方法。主要因為這種方法特別適于精聽,能幫助自學者打下扎實基礎。有了基本功再練泛聽就容易許多。
口語問題,需要有良好的發(fā)音基礎。最好請一專門的老師個別輔導。一對一地矯正語音是最佳途徑。花三個月時間足矣,學費也不多。有好的語音和好的聽力,是進入高級英語的重要臺階。多去英語角,跟別人胡聊,說對說錯不要緊。能一口氣說半小時英語,再練習聽力就會有不同的感覺。
有了六級英語基礎,再結(jié)合自己的工作特點學習中高級英語,經(jīng)過兩年努力肯定大有收獲。
今天我想說說“耐心”二字
不急躁,不焦慮是耐心的本質(zhì)。我在學習聽力中犯過兩大錯誤,一是不斷要求自己在半年或一年內(nèi)達到“精通”的程度----結(jié)果無一不以破產(chǎn)告終;二是頻繁變更學習方法,時而逆向法,時而“千萬別學法”,時而“泛聽法”,時而以閱讀帶動聽力法等等----最后那種方法都嘗試了皮毛,喪失了精髓。
學習英語一定要平心靜氣。結(jié)合個人實際尋找一種合適的方法,然后就要“任憑風浪起,穩(wěn)坐釣魚船”。以我的教訓為例,剛開始練聽力時,選擇了逆向法。可是一上手,發(fā)現(xiàn)太難。首先是一分鐘的標準英語錄音,需要40-50分鐘才聽寫完。于是不再聽寫,改成一邊看書一邊聽?;藥讉€月,沒有多大進步。于是又改成以泛聽為主,結(jié)果最大的收獲是對英語語音熟悉許多,但是照樣聽不懂。這回,我不得不查找問題到底在哪里,老老實實“大撤退”,回到自己真實的水平上:放棄聽標準英語,改聽慢速錄音。
其實,鐘教授在《聽遍全世界》中早有提醒,要學習標準英語聽力,必須具備一遍聽懂慢速英語的基礎。而我在起步時,需要三遍才能完全聽懂SPECIAL ENGLISH?,F(xiàn)在看,以如此初級的基礎,就幻想在半年之內(nèi)突破聽力難關,顯然是太幼稚了。
類似的錯誤后來又多次重復。比如,當我感覺聽慢速英語有提高時,又急于攻下《高級聽力》教材,并再次把目標鎖定在半年過關。結(jié)果只是多了一次失望。
在反反復復的摸索中,我逐步認識到提高聽力一定要沉住氣。默寫要沉住氣;精聽要沉住氣;就連泛聽也需要沉住氣----泛聽不可走神,必須緊緊追著錄音,盡量獲取信息。在缺少英語聽說的環(huán)境下,沒有誰能輕輕松松學會英語。
所以,我說學英語是很累的活兒,特別需要耐力。只有耐心,沒有足夠的投入,還是學不會。我認為,在起步時期,每天至少要花三到五小時,而且方法要對路。我雖然自稱花了3000小時練聽力,但由于中間彎路太長,真正有效時間也就1500小時左右。這可是八小時工作制下200天不帶工資的白忙活??!希望兄弟姐妹們千萬要把我作為反面教材。
----花三分之二以上的時間精聽和聽寫,用不到三反之一時間泛聽一些比較容易的材料。這是我在“回頭是岸”時的心得。
----老老實實根據(jù)個人實際水平,從低起點開始練習聽寫,并且認認真真地一個個詞寫對,不懂就查找詞典,向高手請教。這才叫打基礎。
----稍有進步時,千萬不要忘乎所以,聽力要進入“一馬平川”的境界還有漫漫征途。
----只有當聽寫標準英語沒有任何恐懼感,而且許多句子不用聽寫也弄得明白時,才可以減少聽寫時間,轉(zhuǎn)而精聽與泛聽合理結(jié)合。
總之,“別著急”是學英語的最佳心理?!百u苦力”是提高聽力的唯一途徑。
反對逆向法的意見
我覺得逆向法根本就不是方法,各位別罵我啊,我對上面的帖子沒有意見,只是對逆向法有意見,學習如果方法正確才會高效,何謂正確?符合個人的接收方式。逆向法就是最愚蠢的一種方法。所以,三年下來,你會有所進步,可這不等于逆向法好。不能把英語學習只當成樂趣,沒完沒了的學,那我問你,什么時候用呢?所以一年苦學。方法自選。應該拿下。(我真不知道怎么說,那一年用什么辦法拿下?這位朋友又不說)

我高中時一直是班里英語學得較好的學生之一。在第四軍醫(yī)大學我先后參加過全國第一次四級考試和第一、第二次六級考試。90 年大學畢業(yè)時我是全區(qū)隊 40 人中唯一通過六級的學員。畢業(yè)后到某醫(yī)院從事醫(yī)療儀器維修工作,需要讀一些英文說明書。我記得第一次是一臺生化分析儀的說明書,看得很吃力。我對不懂的單詞逐個查字典,將這份說明書徹底看懂翻譯出來。以后再看英文說明書時就容易一些了。在醫(yī)院工作期間我曾用三個多月的時間背過《新概念》第二冊全部一百多篇課文,每日一篇,背好后讓同事聽,比較流利、一詞不錯就算完成任務。
準備考研時,我在 92 年 9 月份背了《新概念》第三冊前 30 課后,就再也沒管英語。盡管那次研究生入學英語考試較難,許多人因此落馬,我還是拿到了南京通信工程學院的入學通知書。上研究生伊始,剛讀研究生時我的英語水平在班里算中等,不如大多數(shù)通院本科畢業(yè)的同學。每天早晨看到他們拿著收音機聽 Special English 廣播,我就很羨慕,心里暗想:我什么時候能聽懂?
雖然我一入校就知道”逆向法“,但是仍然用背的方法學英語,不久就覺得太枯燥而難以為繼。在無奈的情況下,我從第二學期期中的時候嘗試用”逆向法“學英語。那時還沒有電腦語言學習機,只能用單放機返過來、倒過去地聽。第一面 30 分鐘的 Special English 我聽了一個月左右。1994 年上半年,也就是研究生第二學期,我開始聽寫 Special English 廣播節(jié)目,工具是詞典和一本《英語學習逆向法》。一開始聽寫第一盤磁帶時真困難,一個小時下來只寫幾行是常事。至今我清楚地記得有一次一個詞花了 50 多分鐘也沒聽出來。但是正是如此,我才體會到逆向法的價值,我才真實地知道自己的英語水平。到了期末,我斷斷續(xù)續(xù)地聽寫了大約有六七十個小時,這個學期的英語課,我一節(jié)也沒有去上。
期末的英語考試是交一篇作文、聽力測試和口語測試。考聽力用的是 TOEFL 試題,我考全班第一??伎谡Z時我們坐在教室里,教員給出幾個話題,誰準備好了就去找教員講幾分鐘。我看了一下題目,稍微準備了一下就第一個去找教員講。這六七十個小時的聽寫有效果了,我的英語開始在同學中略顯突出。第三個學期,我給自己規(guī)定每天要聽寫三節(jié)課(150 分鐘),每聽寫完三節(jié)課就在筆記本上劃一杠,到 1995 年一月,一共劃了 108 個杠。也就是說,這個學期我用逆向法學習了 108×2。5=220 個小時。經(jīng)過這段時間的學習,我已經(jīng)可以順利地聽懂 Special English 廣播了。到學期結(jié)束時,我已經(jīng)相信,如果在研究生班里找三個英語比較好的人,其中應該有我。第四學期時南京某研究所請我們幾個研究生去做技術講解的口頭翻譯,其中就有我。我心里直打鼓,”我能行嗎?"可是當站在講臺上,翻譯完中方教員的第一段話后立刻就知道:我能行!因為人的聽和說的能力是相關的。我一年來的聽寫鍛煉了用英語思維的能力,聽寫完一面磁帶后我總是對著聽寫記錄跟著錄音機朗讀,自然而然就形成了用英語表達思想的能力。這次外訓任務,我是幾個同學中翻譯天數(shù)最多的。
研究生畢業(yè)后我從事通信系統(tǒng)的規(guī)劃論證和建設工作,有時要與外方進行技術洽談。我既是工程師,又是翻譯。因為我專業(yè)和英語都懂,所以彼此間的交流準確、順利,也容易進行深入細致的討論。平時還要用英語與外方進行傳真往來,對他們提出技術要求、進行咨詢,對其方案或配置進行修改或認可,提出我方建議等。一般是我先起草中文稿,呈領導審閱修改后翻譯成英文件,再呈領導審閱,同意后發(fā)出。我現(xiàn)在的直接領導是清華的 MBA,他說我寫的英文比較地道。我寫的信函曾加快了談判的進程。我寫的系統(tǒng)技術要求被外方原封不動地作為其建議書的附件。有一次我參加國家無委組織的一個國際頻譜管理研修班,由三名加拿大政府無線電管理的退休官員講課。我的英語水平相對突出一些。有人問我的英語是在哪里學的,我回答說“我的英語水平的提高,主要得益于長期堅持用逆向法學習。我沒出過國,沒有花大價錢去上什么學習班。字典和周圍英語比我好的人就是我的老師。”
我感到用逆向法學習英語是我在學習方法上的質(zhì)變。有人說逆向法太費時間,其實它的時間效率比很高。我用大約 400 個小時,就使我的英語水平從一般、不能熟練地閱讀英語文獻、基本上說不了,進步到名列前茅、能熟練地閱讀英語文獻和口語較流利的程度。400 小時相當于一個本科生一年課內(nèi)課外英語學習時間的總和,用常規(guī)的學習方法恐怕難以達到此效果。

聽是人們言語交際能力的重要方面,也是英語學習的重要途徑之
一。通過聽覺領悟語言是一個復雜的過程,它包括接受信息、識別、判斷和理解聲音信號等幾個層次的心理活動。人們接受信息后,通過大腦來識別和 理解每個聲音信號的意義,然后作出適當?shù)姆答?。反饋的快慢、判斷的正確與否,同一個人的識別和理解能力及個人的知識、經(jīng)驗都有著密切的聯(lián)系。傳統(tǒng)的應試教學模式,重讀、寫能力訓練,輕聽、說能力的培養(yǎng),留下了英語叫中的“聾啞”后遺癥。如何提高學生聽力水平,給我們從事基礎英語教育的同仁們留下了深思。
一、“聽”在教學中的地位
在當今社會中,隨著各種媒體的廣泛使用,聽的素質(zhì)變的日益重要了,但目前中學英語教學中重視閱讀,說和聽是非常薄弱的環(huán)節(jié),學生聽力培養(yǎng)和提高往往被忽視。在初中畢業(yè)生中,英語筆試能力卓而不凡的不乏其人,但每當聽別人說英語卻是一頭霧水,糊里糊涂。為改變這種狀況我們必須加大聽力訓練,因而注重并加強聽力教學方法的探索與研究,是提高中學英語聽力水平的關鍵所在。
二、聽力訓練的一般方法
1.用英語組織教學,使英語聽力經(jīng)?;?。
課堂是實施英語聽力訓練的主陣地,要為學生創(chuàng)造一個良好的語言環(huán)境,就必須用英語組織教學。例如:在一篇課文的Dialogue教學中,向?qū)W生出示一副畫著漂亮自行車的圖片,然后對學生說:look at this picture , what can you see ?(I can see a bike).通過這樣的情景教學,即使學生不看書,也能容易聽懂對話內(nèi)容,從而增加了學生在課內(nèi)接受聽力訓練的機會。
用英語組織課堂教學是對學生進行聽力訓練最基本、最簡便、最實效的形式,在用英語組織課堂教學的過程中,應注意:
①讀準語音。正確的語音是聽音辨音的基礎,只有把英語音學準讀準,才能進行聽音辨音。因此,我要求學生每天早晨堅持半小時的聽錄音跟讀練習,跟讀過程中,只求讀準語音。隨堂設計5分鐘的辨音練習,形式可多樣化。比如:一生朗讀,其余聽辨有無錯音。②多聽。多聽是強化學生聽力的重要手段。教師在課堂上多用英語進行教學,給學生創(chuàng)造聽的機會和環(huán)境。充分利用錄音機和錄音磁
帶,讓學生經(jīng)常聽英美人的地道的英語,掌握比較標準的英語語音。
2、增加英語聽力訓練方式,主要包括聽音辯音、聽寫、聽說對話、聽力理解等。
⑴ 辯音訓練要隨時隨地進行。
a.讓學生找出所聽到的元音讀音相同的單詞。

b.讓學生聽幾組句子并找出每組句子中不同的部分。

聽是理解信息,說是表達和傳遞信息,聽是說的基礎,說是聽的提高。因此,中學英語訓練的第一步是如何讓學生開口說英語,要重在他們用英語自由表達的習慣,要抓平時,抓養(yǎng)成。
⑶ 聽寫訓練要抓反復
聽寫是最樸實、最簡便的聽力訓練方式,也是提高聽力水平必不可少的一環(huán)。它是一種限時性強,輸入量大,需要高度集中一個人的注意力并充分調(diào)動一個人所有語言知識的腦力勞動過程。聽寫作為一種固定的日常練習,使學生養(yǎng)成良好的聽寫習慣,當然聽寫有一種循序漸進的過程,可以從單調(diào)詞組開始,逐步過渡到段落及至全文。
⑷ 理解訓練要抓突出。
聽力理解包括對句子和文章的基本事實的認定及文章相關內(nèi)容間邏輯關系的推斷,是聽力的高級表現(xiàn)形式,必須要常抓不懈。尤其在聽力過程中,抓重點、抓突出,爭取做到學生對聽力有足夠的重視。
3.遵守聽力規(guī)律,使聽力訓練科學化。
英語聽力是一個“細活”,需要付出一定時間才能提高。但是教師在教學過程中,需要掌握規(guī)律,對癥下藥。
⑴ 明確目的。
在做聽力練習之前,特別是聽力材料是短文時,必須讓學生明白他們要做什么,讓學生了解語言材料的背景,然后瀏覽題干部分及答案,讓他們感到心中有數(shù)。
⑵ 掌握技巧。
在訓練聽力時對學生進行聽法指導是十分必要的。首先要消除畏懼心理、增強自信,然后要告誡學生不因為一兩個單詞沒聽懂而患得
患失,要抓住關鍵詞,抓主要線索,抓整體。還要讓學生在進行聽力測試時盡量記錄下材料的基本事實。
⑶ 精心選擇聽力材料。
聽力材料的適當是直接影響學生的“聽”的積極性和聽力效果的。教師應選擇由易到難,由淺到深的系列材料,可以先從辯音入手,然后逐步過渡到短句、長句、段落及篇章結(jié)構(gòu),再應結(jié)合新教材的特點,選擇語言規(guī)范,交際性強又十分按英美文化和習俗的語言材料。
⑷ 引導學生用英語思維,使聽力訓練個性化。
學生在聽英語的過程中,習慣于將聽到的一切都翻譯成漢語,人為的增強了聽力理解過程中的英譯漢,然后再到漢譯英的環(huán)節(jié),從而跟不上速度,提不高效率,指導學生用英語思維,減少心譯過程,使學生把聽到的或自己表達的英語與客觀事物建立直接關系,是培養(yǎng)學生良好的聽力習慣,提高學生聽力效果的主要一環(huán),同時要教育學生不要把一切都翻譯成母語。
三、英語聽力遇到的困難
1.語言上的困難
所聽的材料中出現(xiàn)新詞,新句型和新語法現(xiàn)象,或者由于連續(xù)、弱讀、失去爆破、重音移動等而使詞句發(fā)生變化,這些都會引起聽的困難,克服這種困難最初可通過分析性聽力練習來解決。
2.內(nèi)容上的困難
學生聽英語時,由于不熟悉英美人的生活習慣、文化特色、興趣愛好等,常會感到所聽材料顯無具體的新詞名著,但卻不能聽懂內(nèi)容。所以聽力練習配合一定的情景,并在教學中注意介紹文化背景。
3.心理上的困難
學生聽英語的潛在困難屬于心理障礙,總感到被動、無把握,因此過分緊張。聽的時候的注意集中到內(nèi)容上而不是語言上,大意上而不是細節(jié)上,正在聽的而不是已聽過的。
四、聽力能力的培養(yǎng)還應注重課外的訓練。
聽力課上,如果有明確的目標,完備的設施、良好的學習氛圍和適度緊張的情緒,就很容易出成績,水平提高也快。但聽力是許多同學的薄弱環(huán)節(jié),單靠每周的幾節(jié)課是遠遠不夠的,自己課下還需要“加碼”??梢园颜n堂上的材料進一步“精聽”,也可以“泛聽”其他材料;另外一個不可忽視的方面就是隨意聽,即在休閑娛樂甚至是休息時,聽一些優(yōu)美的英語經(jīng)典歌曲、英語節(jié)目、電影錄音剪輯等,這樣耳熟
能詳,不知不覺朗朗上口,語感增強了,聽說能力也提高了。有時可能感覺收益不大,但這只是暫時的,其長期效益是顯著的。
總之,作為教師,我們應盡自己的可能在課內(nèi)外為學生提供良好的學習條件和環(huán)境,以此來激發(fā)他們的學習積極性,提高英語聽說能力,進而全面提高學生的交際。
