A very warm welcome to the Chinese Embassy.Tonight we will share together a great music.We will have the pleasure of enjoying a performance from Yundi Li, a world famous Chinese pianist.This is the first time in many years for us to stage a concert at the Chinese Embassy.I am delighted my Embassy can host a recital that is truly world class, thanks to the talents of Yundi Li.I had the pleasure to attend a concert by Yundi Li in London two years ago.That was the first concert I went to since I came to London.So I have a clear idea about the musical treat we will be given this evening.首先，我對(duì)大家今晚出席中國(guó)駐英國(guó)大使館主辦的“李云迪鋼琴音樂(lè)會(huì)”表示熱烈歡迎。這是中國(guó)駐英國(guó)使館近年來(lái)首次舉辦音樂(lè)會(huì)，今晚的主角是中國(guó)的年輕鋼琴家李云迪。無(wú)獨(dú)有偶，兩年前，我來(lái)到英國(guó)后出席的第一場(chǎng)音樂(lè)會(huì)就是李云迪的鋼琴演奏會(huì)。

I'm sure many of you know Yundi very well.He was born in the early 1980s and grew up in the years of China's reform and opening-up.Yundi's great talent was recognized at an early stage.He won this in 2000.He became the youngest Chinese player ever to win the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition.Since 2000 Yundi has won world-wide popularity.He has performed in the most prestigious concert halls.His beautiful and poetic rendition of musical masterpieces has won much acclaim from his global audience.Yundi's success bears witness to how far China has come in the past 30 years.It also shows that China's development is comprehensive in nature.For us, economic development is not the only thing that matters.Development of culture is important too.Our people have been able to enjoy much better lives both in the material sense and in terms of cultural refinement.李云迪或許我已經(jīng)不用多做介紹，他出生于上世紀(jì)八十年代之初，伴隨著中國(guó)改革開(kāi)放而成長(zhǎng)。他才華橫溢、享譽(yù)國(guó)際，曾奪得肖邦國(guó)際鋼琴比賽第一名，并創(chuàng)下最年輕奪冠紀(jì)錄。他的音樂(lè)會(huì)遍布世界各大著名音樂(lè)廳，他完美和富有詩(shī)意的演奏“余音繞梁”。李云迪的成功從一個(gè)側(cè)面反映了中國(guó)過(guò)去30多年的巨大變化，同時(shí)也說(shuō)明中國(guó)的發(fā)展是全面的發(fā)展，中國(guó)不僅重視經(jīng)濟(jì)建設(shè)，同樣重視文化建設(shè)。今天，中國(guó)人民不僅物質(zhì)生活越來(lái)越好，而且精神文化生活越來(lái)越豐富。

This year marks 40 years of China-UK ambassadorial diplomatic relations.This 40-year journey is extraordinary.We have together built up a strong partnership that has covered all fields.Also this evening is symbolic.There is a growing recognition that culture has become a big part of China-UK relations.This concert is a tribute to 40 years of our full diplomatic relations.As importantly, we hope the concert will inspire all of us to work even harder to strengthen China-UK cultural exchanges.This will, in turn, contribute to greater mutual understanding and closer cooperation.今年是中英建立大使級(jí)外交關(guān)系40周年。過(guò)去的40年告訴我們，中英關(guān)系的發(fā)展也是全面的發(fā)展，合作領(lǐng)域涉及方方面面，文化交流是其重要組成部分。中國(guó)駐英國(guó)大使館舉辦此次李云迪鋼琴音樂(lè)會(huì)，既是慶祝建立大使級(jí)外交關(guān)系40周年，也是以此進(jìn)一步促進(jìn)中英文化交流，從而增進(jìn)彼此的了解和理解，深化雙方的信任與合作。

Mr Ian Pearson, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, My Lord Mayor, My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, 再過(guò)15分鐘，第41屆世界博覽會(huì)將在中國(guó)上海隆重開(kāi)幕。感謝大家出席今天的招待會(huì)，與我們一道在第一時(shí)間目睹上海世博會(huì)的開(kāi)幕盛況。

In about 15 minutes, the 41st World Exposition will open in Shanghai.I would like to thank all of you for coming to the Chinese Embassy to share this exciting moment with us.英國(guó)是世博會(huì)的故鄉(xiāng)。1851年，倫敦萬(wàn)國(guó)工業(yè)產(chǎn)品博覽會(huì)在水晶宮舉辦，這是人類(lèi)歷史上第一屆世博會(huì)。

The themes of the Expo have also evolved, moving gradually from industrial strength, scientific and technological breakthroughs to where they are today, thinking about the future and the need for a harmonious coexistence between man and nature.上海世博會(huì)是首次在發(fā)展中國(guó)家舉辦的世博會(huì)，是繼北京奧運(yùn)會(huì)后中國(guó)舉辦的又一個(gè)世界盛會(huì)。中國(guó)舉全國(guó)之力，集世界智慧，與各參展方密切合作，歷時(shí)八年精心籌備，決心向世人奉獻(xiàn)一屆成功、精彩和難忘的世博會(huì)。

This is the first World Expo held in a developing country, and is another major global gathering in China following the Beijing Olympics back in 2008.It will be another close contact between China and the rest of the world in a 184-day long dialogue between nations.It will enable China to understand the world better and help the world to know China and Shanghai more and help foster greater friendship among the people.In the eight years of preparations for this Expo, Shanghai and in fact all of China has been working hard to stage a successful, splendid and memorable Expo.We have drawn upon the wisdom and experience of participating nations and groups, to ensure its success.--上海世博會(huì)是規(guī)模空前的一次全球盛會(huì)，將以最為廣泛的參與度載入世博會(huì)史冊(cè)。本屆世博會(huì)有246個(gè)國(guó)家和國(guó)際組織參加，1.3萬(wàn)名記者報(bào)名，將舉行188場(chǎng)國(guó)家館日、39個(gè)國(guó)際組織榮譽(yù)日活動(dòng)和2萬(wàn)多場(chǎng)文化活動(dòng)，預(yù)計(jì)將吸引7000萬(wàn)名觀眾，其中350萬(wàn)為境外參觀者。

The Shanghai Expo will be the largest to date, with 246 countries and international organizations taking part and 13,000 journalists covering it.During the Expo 188 National Days and 39 Honorary Days for International Organizations will be observed.Along with over 20,000 cultural events, it is expected to attract 70 million visitors, three and a half million of which will be coming from overseas.--上海世博會(huì)是對(duì)人類(lèi)發(fā)展的思考，對(duì)城市未來(lái)的探索。亞里士多德說(shuō)，“人們來(lái)到城市是為了生活，人們居住在城市是為了更好地生活”。城市為人們帶來(lái)了美好生活，也帶來(lái)了人口膨脹、交通擁擠、環(huán)境污染、資源緊缺和文化摩擦等問(wèn)題。

Under the theme of Better City, Better Life, the Shanghai Expo represents a reflection on building cities for the future.As Aristotle said, “People come to cities for a living, and live in cities for a better life.” Cities have brought better life for people, but they have also bred population explosion, traffic congestion, environmental pollution, resource depletion and friction between cultures.上海世博會(huì)以“城市，讓生活更美好”為主題，充分貫徹綠色、環(huán)保、低碳的理念。參展各國(guó)和國(guó)際組織將充分展示城市文明成果，交流城市建設(shè)經(jīng)驗(yàn)，傳播先進(jìn)城市發(fā)展理念，探討人類(lèi)居住、生活和工作的新模式。

Rebecca Miller, a 20-year-old British girl from Newcastle, who now lives in Shanghai and hosts Learning Chinese in Fun on local TV, was full of expectations about the Shanghai Expo.She said, “Many people from my hometown have never been in China.I really hope they will come and see it during the Expo.” 這也是我們的希望和期待。2010年世博會(huì)是上海的世博會(huì)，是中國(guó)的世博會(huì)，更是世界的世博會(huì)。

years ago China was a poor and weak country badly in need of reconstruction.The founding fathers of the People?s Republic articulated a vision for the future of the country.Their blueprint was a call to action to the Chinese people.The message was this: · ?Let us work hard to create our own civilization.· We will build a happy life and contribute to world peace and freedom.?

Just 5 hours ago, China?s Tiangong-1 space module was successfully launched.It is another important step in our program to build a space station.Progress in China?s space exploration will make new contribution to international scientific research and peaceful use of space.我們對(duì)中國(guó)過(guò)去62年取得的成就感到驕傲，更對(duì)中國(guó)的未來(lái)充滿信心。

Recently, the Chinese government published a white paper that is called ?China?s Peaceful Development.This document reaffirms to the world China?s commitment:

· China is committed to a path of peaceful development.We see this as the only path leading to China?s modernization and prosperity and greater contribution by China to the progress of human civilization.中國(guó)將堅(jiān)持科學(xué)發(fā)展。我們將以人為本，始終尊重人權(quán)和人的價(jià)值，走共同富裕道路；我們將促進(jìn)全面協(xié)調(diào)可持續(xù)發(fā)展，全面推進(jìn)經(jīng)濟(jì)、政治、文化、社會(huì)及生態(tài)各領(lǐng)域建設(shè)。

A close dialogue between Chinese and British leaders is a key factor in the strength of Sino-UK relations.We are encouraged to see a productive year for our relations in 2011.Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice Premier Li Keqiang both visited Britain.Vice Premier Wang Qishan came this month to co-chair the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue.Just this week State Councilor Dai Bingguo came to London to co-host the Strategic Dialogue.These visits and dialogues have further increased our common understandings.Both countries now agree on the need to boost our cooperation with new ideas and new approaches, while managing differences on the basis of mutual respect and mutual adjustment.This positive approach will help us to seek common ground despite our differences and promote common development.This year, trade between us has continued its double-digit growth.British exports to China have remained robust.These rose 28.6 percent year-on-year in the first 8 months of this year.That is faster than any of Britain?s top 15 export markets.And China is still a leading investor in Britain.Our people-to-people exchanges have further deepened.The best example is the rapid increase of people of all ages studying Mandarin in many parts of this country.So far 2011 has shown a deepening of Sino-UK relations in all areas.This trend will continue.A couple of months from now, a pair of giant pandas from China will settle in Britain as “Ambassadors of China-UK friendship”.展望明年，中英將迎來(lái)建立大使級(jí)外交關(guān)系40周年，英國(guó)將舉辦第30屆夏季奧運(yùn)會(huì)，中國(guó)將成為倫敦書(shū)展主賓國(guó)。我相信，雙方圍繞這些重要節(jié)點(diǎn)，共同作出努力，中英明年的交流將更加廣泛深入，合作將更加富有成果。

Next year will be another milestone in China-Britain relations: · We will celebrate 40 years of full diplomatic relations.· Britain will host the 30th Summer Olympic Games.· And China has been named the Guest of Honour of the 2012 London Book Fair.I have the confidence that together, we will use these landmark events to great effect.These will be the catalysts to widen exchanges and create ever more productive cooperation between our countries.最后，我提議，In closing, please join me in a toast:

英國(guó)中資企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)會(huì)長(zhǎng)楊世成先生，48家集團(tuán)俱樂(lè)部主席佩里先生，倫敦工商會(huì)會(huì)長(zhǎng)斯坦布里奇先生，女士們，先生們：

新年伊始，很高興出席英國(guó)中資企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)舉辦的新年招待會(huì)，使我有機(jī)會(huì)同中英兩國(guó)企業(yè)家歡聚一堂，共迎新年。

剛剛過(guò)去的2012年，是中英兩國(guó)企業(yè)家值得共同自豪的一年。去年1-11月，據(jù)中方統(tǒng)計(jì)中英雙邊貿(mào)易增長(zhǎng)了7.1%，達(dá)到570億美元。這一成績(jī)的取得來(lái)之不易，因?yàn)橥谥袊?guó)同歐盟的貿(mào)易下降了4.1%，英國(guó)是中國(guó)在歐盟主要貿(mào)易伙伴中唯一出口和進(jìn)口都實(shí)現(xiàn)正增長(zhǎng)的國(guó)家。特別值得一提的是，中國(guó)從英進(jìn)口前11個(gè)月增長(zhǎng)了17.8%，增幅在歐盟成員國(guó)中居第一位。

剛剛過(guò)去的2012年，是中國(guó)企業(yè)表現(xiàn)突出的一年。中國(guó)企業(yè)對(duì)英投資連出大手筆。根據(jù)不完全統(tǒng)計(jì)，2012年中國(guó)企業(yè)通過(guò)參股并購(gòu)在英投資80多億美元，超過(guò)近幾年總和。中投公司、光明集團(tuán)、中石化、中海油、華為，不僅榜上有名，而且成為排頭兵。我相信，今后，中英雙方在基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施、油氣、核能、海上風(fēng)電、食品工業(yè)、信息技術(shù)等領(lǐng)域，還將取得更多突破，開(kāi)展更多資本、項(xiàng)目合作。

剛剛過(guò)去的2012年，也是在英國(guó)的中資企業(yè)喜事不斷的一年。去年，我就參加了農(nóng)行開(kāi)業(yè)典禮、工行遷址、中國(guó)電信在英開(kāi)展新業(yè)務(wù)、南航開(kāi)通直航等多場(chǎng)中資企業(yè)活動(dòng)。我也了解到，華為（英國(guó)）公司等中資企業(yè)在英簽了大合同，將進(jìn)一步加大在英投資，擴(kuò)大招收雇員。這表明，中國(guó)企業(yè)在英國(guó)正在不斷發(fā)展壯大。

隨著中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作的不斷發(fā)展，有11年歷史的英國(guó)中資企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)的隊(duì)伍也在不斷壯大，成員目前已經(jīng)達(dá)到120多家。作為在英中資企業(yè)的聯(lián)盟，我衷心希望協(xié)會(huì)今后在中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作中發(fā)揮更大更重要的作用。

一是發(fā)揮鼓勵(lì)吸引作用。希望你們多現(xiàn)身說(shuō)法，向國(guó)內(nèi)企業(yè)介紹在英投資、發(fā)展的成功經(jīng)驗(yàn)和秘訣，吸引更多的中國(guó)企業(yè)“走出來(lái)”，開(kāi)拓英國(guó)和歐洲市場(chǎng)，走國(guó)際化經(jīng)營(yíng)道路。

二是發(fā)揮交流促進(jìn)作用。希望你們不僅成為中資企業(yè)之間的交流平臺(tái)，更能加強(qiáng)與英國(guó)行業(yè)組織、企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)的聯(lián)系，如48家集團(tuán)俱樂(lè)部、英中貿(mào)協(xié)、倫敦工商會(huì)等，經(jīng)常與他們聯(lián)合舉辦一些豐富多彩的活動(dòng)，使中國(guó)企業(yè)家更好地了解英國(guó)企業(yè)家，使中資企業(yè)更好地了解英國(guó)企業(yè)，為兩國(guó)企業(yè)之間合作牽線搭橋。

三是發(fā)揮“代言人”作用。中資企業(yè)在英發(fā)展，需要樹(shù)立良好的企業(yè)形象，這不僅需要每個(gè)中資企業(yè)自身的努力，也需要中資企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)成為“集體代言人”，積極主動(dòng)地向英國(guó)各界介紹中國(guó)企業(yè)，不僅介紹他們吃苦耐勞的創(chuàng)業(yè)精神，而且介紹他們注重回饋的社會(huì)責(zé)任感，同時(shí)積極反映中資企業(yè)的合理訴求，維護(hù)他們的合法權(quán)益。

總之，我希望在2013年，英國(guó)中資企業(yè)協(xié)會(huì)能繼續(xù)抓住中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作不斷發(fā)展的良好機(jī)遇，有針對(duì)性地開(kāi)展工作，創(chuàng)造性地發(fā)揮作用，努力促進(jìn)協(xié)會(huì)成員的發(fā)展壯大，努力促進(jìn)中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作的互利共贏。
