英國劍橋大學(xué)考試委員會(UCLES)組織實(shí)施“雅思”，服務(wù)對象也主要是歐美院校等招生機(jī)構(gòu)，但在“雅思”之外，它還推廣實(shí)施“通用英語考試”(Main Suite Examinations)，具體分KET(Key English Test)、PET(Preliminary English Test)、FCE(First Certificate in English)、CAE(Certificate in Advanced English)、CPE(Certificate of Proficiency in English)5個等級，考試跨度與覆蓋面更大，意欲網(wǎng)羅“托?！焙汀把潘肌敝獾目忌?。

相對于ETS的“托業(yè)”，劍橋有“商務(wù)英語考試”，具體分為BEC(Preliminary Level)、BEC(Vantage Level)、BEC(Higher Level)三個等級，考試跨度與覆蓋面同樣大于“托業(yè)”，它不僅瞄準(zhǔn)與“托業(yè)”相同的考試人群，同時又試圖囊括“托業(yè)”所忽略了的考試人群。

英美兩國對于自己語言的推廣有著自己的方式，而且都是比較專業(yè)的領(lǐng)域或者高校招生的英語水平的要求?？鬃訉W(xué)院的漢語水平考試HSK和BCT考試，一個面向日常生活漢語考試，一個面向上午漢語考試。對于日常生活漢語對話的學(xué)習(xí)是很多外國人需要提高的內(nèi)容，這對融入到中國的生活學(xué)習(xí)當(dāng)中很重要。
