尊敬的財政部經(jīng)濟(jì)事務(wù)大臣伊恩·皮爾遜先生, 尊敬的倫敦金融城市長安司棣先生, 各位來賓，女士們，先生們：

Mr Ian Pearson, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, My Lord Mayor, My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, 再過15分鐘，第41屆世界博覽會將在中國上海隆重開幕。感謝大家出席今天的招待會，與我們一道在第一時間目睹上海世博會的開幕盛況。

In about 15 minutes, the 41st World Exposition will open in Shanghai.I would like to thank all of you for coming to the Chinese Embassy to share this exciting moment with us.英國是世博會的故鄉(xiāng)。1851年，倫敦萬國工業(yè)產(chǎn)品博覽會在水晶宮舉辦，這是人類歷史上第一屆世博會。

Britain is home of the World Exposition.In 1851, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations was held in the Crystal Palace – and was the first ever World Expo.中國參與了本次世博會，并留下了深刻的歷史印記。英國畫家塞魯斯在博覽會開幕式油畫中，描繪了一位中國商人；《倫敦新聞畫報》制作的長達(dá)7米的世博會全景畫，描繪了東道主布置的中國展室； China's participation in the Great Exhibition was a big success.This success was captured by British artist Henry Selous, who included a Chinese merchant in the painting 'The Opening of the Great Exhibition', and by the Illustrated London News, which included the Chinese booth in its seven-metre-long panoramic illustration of the event.上海商人徐榮村郵寄參展的十二包湖絲，獲得了“制造業(yè)和手工業(yè)獎”。But to round off the successes, Shanghai merchant Xu Rongcun won a medal for 12 packs of Huzhou silk, which he had sent by post.時光荏苒，159年過去了，世博會規(guī)模和影響已今非昔比，人類已見證了40屆世界綜合性博覽會。世博會推動著人類的科技創(chuàng)新，見證了人類進(jìn)步的足跡。小到蛋筒冰淇淋、瓶裝水、電燈，大到電梯、汽車、飛機，都是從世博會走入公眾的視野，最終融入人們的日常生活。因此誕生了這么一句名言，“一切始自世博”。159 years and 40 World Expos have passed since then.The Expo has grown in scale and influence, taking forward technical innovations and bearing witness to human progress.From ice-cream cones, bottled water and electric lamps, to lifts, cars and aircraft, – all of these have emerged from Expos to become part of our daily lives.世博會的主題也在不斷演變，從展示國家實力、追求科技突破，逐步轉(zhuǎn)向?qū)θ伺c自然和諧共存、人類社會發(fā)展前景的人文主義思考。

The themes of the Expo have also evolved, moving gradually from industrial strength, scientific and technological breakthroughs to where they are today, thinking about the future and the need for a harmonious coexistence between man and nature.上海世博會是首次在發(fā)展中國家舉辦的世博會，是繼北京奧運會后中國舉辦的又一個世界盛會。中國舉全國之力，集世界智慧，與各參展方密切合作，歷時八年精心籌備，決心向世人奉獻(xiàn)一屆成功、精彩和難忘的世博會。

This is the first World Expo held in a developing country, and is another major global gathering in China following the Beijing Olympics back in 2008.It will be another close contact between China and the rest of the world in a 184-day long dialogue between nations.It will enable China to understand the world better and help the world to know China and Shanghai more and help foster greater friendship among the people.In the eight years of preparations for this Expo, Shanghai and in fact all of China has been working hard to stage a successful, splendid and memorable Expo.We have drawn upon the wisdom and experience of participating nations and groups, to ensure its success.--上海世博會是規(guī)?？涨暗囊淮稳蚴?，將以最為廣泛的參與度載入世博會史冊。本屆世博會有246個國家和國際組織參加，1.3萬名記者報名，將舉行188場國家館日、39個國際組織榮譽日活動和2萬多場文化活動，預(yù)計將吸引7000萬名觀眾，其中350萬為境外參觀者。

The Shanghai Expo will be the largest to date, with 246 countries and international organizations taking part and 13,000 journalists covering it.During the Expo 188 National Days and 39 Honorary Days for International Organizations will be observed.Along with over 20,000 cultural events, it is expected to attract 70 million visitors, three and a half million of which will be coming from overseas.--上海世博會是對人類發(fā)展的思考，對城市未來的探索。亞里士多德說，“人們來到城市是為了生活，人們居住在城市是為了更好地生活”。城市為人們帶來了美好生活，也帶來了人口膨脹、交通擁擠、環(huán)境污染、資源緊缺和文化摩擦等問題。

Under the theme of Better City, Better Life, the Shanghai Expo represents a reflection on building cities for the future.As Aristotle said, “People come to cities for a living, and live in cities for a better life.” Cities have brought better life for people, but they have also bred population explosion, traffic congestion, environmental pollution, resource depletion and friction between cultures.上海世博會以“城市，讓生活更美好”為主題，充分貫徹綠色、環(huán)保、低碳的理念。參展各國和國際組織將充分展示城市文明成果，交流城市建設(shè)經(jīng)驗，傳播先進(jìn)城市發(fā)展理念，探討人類居住、生活和工作的新模式。

The Shanghai Expo seeks to embody green, environmentally friendly and low carbon life in the cities.The participating countries and international organizations will fully demonstrate their achievements in urban development and share their experience in municipal management, by promoting new models for human habitation, life and work.--上海世博會是中國與世界的又一次近距離接觸，是一次長達(dá)184天的文明對話。上海世博會既可以讓中國了解世界，更可以讓世界了解上海，了解中國。上海作為中國最大的經(jīng)濟(jì)中心城市，是中國改革開放32年的縮影，是中國發(fā)展的最成功注腳。世博會中國館“東方之冠”，將展示五千年來薪火相傳、生生不息的中華文明。200萬城市志愿者，20萬世博服務(wù)志愿者，將是上海這座城市最好的名片?！笆啦┤思摇睂⑹橇私庵袊胀癖?、體驗上海都市風(fēng)情的獨特窗口。As the largest economic centre in China, Shanghai is an example of successful development following 32 years of reform and opening-up.The Chinese Pavilion Crown of the East showcases 5,000 years of the Chinese civilization.But the two million municipal and 200,000 expo volunteers are without doubt the best advertisement for the city.And Expo Families will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to mingle with the ordinary citizens and appreciate their local culture.中國期待通過世博會，展現(xiàn)一個全面、客觀、真實、充滿活力的中國，展現(xiàn)一個堅持和平發(fā)展、謀求互利共贏、倡導(dǎo)和諧合作的中國。

We hope that the Expo will present to the world a true and objective insight into dynamic China, a China that stands for peaceful development and mutual benefit achieved through cooperation among all nations.--上海世博會是推進(jìn)中英經(jīng)貿(mào)和科技合作的機遇，是促進(jìn)中英相互了解、增進(jìn)兩國人民友誼的平臺。英國政府和工商界等社會各方面積極參與上海世博會。英國館名為“創(chuàng)意之館”，也稱 “種子殿堂”，但許多中國人形象地稱它為“蒲公英”。英國館從建筑設(shè)計到內(nèi)部布展，充分顯示了非凡的創(chuàng)意和設(shè)計，表現(xiàn)了英國對城市的豐富實踐和前瞻想象。

The Shanghai Expo provides an opportunity for closer trade and investment ties between China and the UK, along with greater scientific and technological cooperation.The British Pavilion, known as the Pavilion of Creativity, or the Seed Cathedral, has been given the interesting name of Dandelion by Chinese internet users.Both the architectural design and interior decoration of the Pavilion have shown extraordinary creativity and demonstrated Britain's rich experience and vision.英國工商界、文化界、科技界將在世博會期間密集亮相，舉辦“金融周”、“創(chuàng)意產(chǎn)業(yè)系列活動”、“科學(xué)和創(chuàng)新系列研討”等數(shù)百項活動。

The British government, business and society at large have taken an active part in the Shanghai Expo.I am also told that there will be more than a hundred events involving British businesses during the Expo, including:---the Financial Week,---Creative Industry series,---And Science and Innovation Workshops, along with a rich variety of cultural and technological shows.在上海居住著一位來自紐卡斯?fàn)柕?0歲英國姑娘麗貝卡，她去年與美國、德國、加拿大等地的年輕人一起在上海參加了《沖刺，上海！》“真人秀”電視節(jié)目，向境外游客和常住上海的外籍人士介紹真實而富有趣味的上海，現(xiàn)在她是上海廣播電視臺外語頻道“樂學(xué)中文”節(jié)目的主持人。她對上海世博會充滿著期待，她說：“在我的家鄉(xiāng)，還有很多人從沒到過中國，我真希望他們在世博會期間來這里看看。”

Rebecca Miller, a 20-year-old British girl from Newcastle, who now lives in Shanghai and hosts Learning Chinese in Fun on local TV, was full of expectations about the Shanghai Expo.She said, “Many people from my hometown have never been in China.I really hope they will come and see it during the Expo.” 這也是我們的希望和期待。2010年世博會是上海的世博會，是中國的世博會，更是世界的世博會。

This is also what we hope and look forward to.The 2010 Expo is for Shanghai, for China, but more importantly it is an Expo for the world.希望在5月1日到10月31日期間，在場的各位及更多的英國朋友有機會去參觀世博會，去領(lǐng)略上海韻，感受中國情，體驗世界風(fēng)！

尊敬的英國外交國務(wù)大臣布朗閣下，尊敬的英國議會下院副議長伊文斯閣下，尊敬的各位使節(jié)、各位將軍、各位議員，女士們、先生們、朋友們：

Minister Jeremy Browne, Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans, Excellencies and members of the diplomatic corps, Generals, MPs, My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen，歡迎大家出席今晚的招待會，同我們一道慶祝中華人民共和國成立62周年。

Welcome to the reception tonight celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People?s Republic of China.62年前，面對一個積貧積弱、百廢待興的國家，新中國的締造者們?yōu)樗奈磥砻枥L了一幅圖景，那就是中華民族“勇敢而勤勞地工作，創(chuàng)造自己的文明和幸福，同時促進(jìn)世界的和平和自由?！?/p>

years ago China was a poor and weak country badly in need of reconstruction.The founding fathers of the People?s Republic articulated a vision for the future of the country.Their blueprint was a call to action to the Chinese people.The message was this: · ?Let us work hard to create our own civilization.· We will build a happy life and contribute to world peace and freedom.?

今天，這份圖景正在成為現(xiàn)實。今天的中國欣欣向榮，通過62年的艱苦奮斗，特別是33年的改革開放，中國已經(jīng)成為世界第二大經(jīng)濟(jì)體和世界第二大貿(mào)易體；今天的中國穩(wěn)定和諧，民主法治越來越健全，公平正義越來越得到崇尚；今天的中國與世界互利共贏，在國際和地區(qū)事務(wù)中發(fā)揮著積極和負(fù)責(zé)任的作用，與各國同舟共濟(jì)，合力應(yīng)對金融危機，促進(jìn)共同發(fā)展。

This ambition is becoming a reality.China today is a prosperous economy.The impact is there to be seen in China.62 years of hard work and 33 years of reform and opening-up have transformed my country.China has been turned into the world?s second largest economy and trading nation.China today is a stable and harmonious society.Democracy and rule of law have been further strengthened.Fairness and justice are the shared pursuit of the government and the people.China today is a responsible contributor in the international system.We seek a win-win relationship with all nations.China plays an active and responsible role in international and regional affairs.We are making joint efforts with the world to battle the financial crisis and promote peaceful and sustainable development worldwide.就在5個小時前，中國成功發(fā)射了“天宮一號”目標(biāo)飛行器，邁出了建設(shè)空間站的重要一步。中國的太空探索將為人類科學(xué)研究、和平利用太空做出新的貢獻(xiàn)。

Just 5 hours ago, China?s Tiangong-1 space module was successfully launched.It is another important step in our program to build a space station.Progress in China?s space exploration will make new contribution to international scientific research and peaceful use of space.我們對中國過去62年取得的成就感到驕傲，更對中國的未來充滿信心。

We have every reason to be proud of what China has achieved in the past 62 years, and have great confidence that China will have a bright future.最近，中國政府發(fā)表了《中國的和平發(fā)展》白皮書，再次鄭重向全世界宣告，中國將堅定不移地沿著和平發(fā)展的道路走下去。我們堅信，只有這條道路，中國才能實現(xiàn)現(xiàn)代化和富民強國，才能為世界文明進(jìn)步作出更大貢獻(xiàn)。

Recently, the Chinese government published a white paper that is called ?China?s Peaceful Development.This document reaffirms to the world China?s commitment:

· China is committed to a path of peaceful development.We see this as the only path leading to China?s modernization and prosperity and greater contribution by China to the progress of human civilization.中國將堅持科學(xué)發(fā)展。我們將以人為本，始終尊重人權(quán)和人的價值，走共同富裕道路；我們將促進(jìn)全面協(xié)調(diào)可持續(xù)發(fā)展，全面推進(jìn)經(jīng)濟(jì)、政治、文化、社會及生態(tài)各領(lǐng)域建設(shè)。

· China pursues scientific development.In essence it means that in China we take a people-first approach and respect human rights and human values.Our mission is to deliver a prosperous life to all our people.We seek balanced and sustainable development in all aspects.China?s aim is to promote all-round progress in economic, political, cultural, social and ecological fields.中國將堅持自主發(fā)展。我們將從本國國情出發(fā)，主要依靠自身力量和改革創(chuàng)新推動經(jīng)濟(jì)社會發(fā)展，不把問題和矛盾轉(zhuǎn)嫁給別國。

· China relies on itself for addressing challenges of development.We will mainly rely on our own hard work and on reform and innovation to promote economic and social development.And we will not in any way shift problems to others.中國將堅持開放發(fā)展。我們將積極參與經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化，學(xué)習(xí)借鑒人類社會一切文明成果，以開放的姿態(tài)融入世界，不斷拓展對外開放。中國不會也不能關(guān)起門來搞建設(shè)。

· China?s development is best served by greater openness to the outside world.We are an active player in globalisation.Chinese people welcome the opportunity to learn the best of other civilisations.China will open wider to the world: we will notcut ourselves off from the rest of world.中國將堅持和平發(fā)展。中國絕不搞侵略擴張，永遠(yuǎn)不爭霸、不稱霸，始終作維護(hù)世界和地區(qū)和平穩(wěn)定的堅定力量，為國家發(fā)展?fàn)I造良好的外部環(huán)境。

· China?s development is a force for peace in the world.We will never seek invasion, expansion or hegemony.We are a staunch force for world and regional peace and stability.And we are determined to create a favorable environment for China to reach its development goals.中國將堅持合作發(fā)展。我們將堅持以合作謀和平、以合作促發(fā)展、以合作化爭端，致力于通過同各國不斷擴大互利合作，有效應(yīng)對各種全球性挑戰(zhàn)。

· China believes in development by cooperation.We seek the widest possible cooperation with the world.Our aim is to uphold peace, promote development and resolve disputes.China believes in cooperation as an effective channel to address global challenges.中國將堅持共同發(fā)展。我們將繼續(xù)奉行互利共贏的開放戰(zhàn)略，在追求自身發(fā)展的同時，努力實現(xiàn)與他國發(fā)展的良性互動，促進(jìn)世界的共同繁榮。

· China seeks common development.We will continue to carry out a win-win opening-up policy.While achieving our own development, we will build good relations with other countries and promote shared prosperity of the world.在中國走和平發(fā)展道路的進(jìn)程中，我們始終將英國作為重要的合作伙伴。新時期，兩國加強合作不僅有利于兩國的發(fā)展，也將造福世界。

In the course of its peaceful development, China has always regarded Britain as an important partner.Stronger cooperation not only serves Chinese and British interests, but also contributes to world peace and prosperity.中英合作是雙贏。中英經(jīng)濟(jì)互補性強，英國具有金融、技術(shù)、創(chuàng)新和管理等長項，中國具有資金、市場和勞動力等優(yōu)勢，“強強結(jié)合”可以為雙方經(jīng)濟(jì)增長提供強大動力。

China?s cooperation with Britain is mutually beneficial.Our economies are highly complementary.Britain?s strength lies in finance, technology, innovation and business management.China?s growth potential comes from its abundant capital, vast market and large pool of labour.By building a ?Partnership for Growth, we can contribute to each other?s economic prosperity.中英合作也是多贏。中英同為聯(lián)合國安理會常任理事國和二十國集團(tuán)成員，兩國在國際政治和世界經(jīng)濟(jì)事務(wù)中保持密切溝通和協(xié)調(diào)，共擔(dān)責(zé)任、共迎挑戰(zhàn)，有利于世界的和平與發(fā)展。

China-Britain comprehensive partnership is a contribution to the world.We are both members of the UN Security Council and the G20.We have maintained close communication and coordination in international affairs.Together, we have taken our due responsibilities, risen to challenges and contributed to world peace and development.我們高興地看到，今年的中英關(guān)系精彩紛呈。溫家寶總理和李克強副總理分別訪英，王岐山副總理和戴秉國國務(wù)委員先后來英與英方領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人共同主持中英經(jīng)濟(jì)財金對話和中英戰(zhàn)略對話。這些訪問和對話進(jìn)一步增進(jìn)了雙方共識，即以新思維、新方式推進(jìn)合作，又要處理好分歧，相互尊重，相互適應(yīng)，求同存異，共謀發(fā)展。今年以來，中英經(jīng)貿(mào)繼續(xù)保持兩位數(shù)增長，特別是英國對華出口繼續(xù)保持強勁勢頭，今年1-8月同比增長28.6%。當(dāng)前，英國對華出口在其前15大出口目的國中增長最快。中國對英投資繼續(xù)在各國中名列前茅。中英人文交流日益密切和深化，“漢語熱”在英不斷升溫；再過幾個月，來自中國四川的兩只大熊貓就要作為“中英友誼的使者”到英國安家落戶。

A close dialogue between Chinese and British leaders is a key factor in the strength of Sino-UK relations.We are encouraged to see a productive year for our relations in 2011.Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice Premier Li Keqiang both visited Britain.Vice Premier Wang Qishan came this month to co-chair the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue.Just this week State Councilor Dai Bingguo came to London to co-host the Strategic Dialogue.These visits and dialogues have further increased our common understandings.Both countries now agree on the need to boost our cooperation with new ideas and new approaches, while managing differences on the basis of mutual respect and mutual adjustment.This positive approach will help us to seek common ground despite our differences and promote common development.This year, trade between us has continued its double-digit growth.British exports to China have remained robust.These rose 28.6 percent year-on-year in the first 8 months of this year.That is faster than any of Britain?s top 15 export markets.And China is still a leading investor in Britain.Our people-to-people exchanges have further deepened.The best example is the rapid increase of people of all ages studying Mandarin in many parts of this country.So far 2011 has shown a deepening of Sino-UK relations in all areas.This trend will continue.A couple of months from now, a pair of giant pandas from China will settle in Britain as “Ambassadors of China-UK friendship”.展望明年，中英將迎來建立大使級外交關(guān)系40周年，英國將舉辦第30屆夏季奧運會，中國將成為倫敦書展主賓國。我相信，雙方圍繞這些重要節(jié)點，共同作出努力，中英明年的交流將更加廣泛深入，合作將更加富有成果。

Next year will be another milestone in China-Britain relations: · We will celebrate 40 years of full diplomatic relations.· Britain will host the 30th Summer Olympic Games.· And China has been named the Guest of Honour of the 2012 London Book Fair.I have the confidence that together, we will use these landmark events to great effect.These will be the catalysts to widen exchanges and create ever more productive cooperation between our countries.最后，我提議，In closing, please join me in a toast:

駐英國大使劉曉明在英國中資企業(yè)協(xié)會新年招待會上的講話

2013年1月4日，倫敦海德公園飯店

英國中資企業(yè)協(xié)會會長楊世成先生，48家集團(tuán)俱樂部主席佩里先生，倫敦工商會會長斯坦布里奇先生，女士們，先生們：

新年伊始，很高興出席英國中資企業(yè)協(xié)會舉辦的新年招待會，使我有機會同中英兩國企業(yè)家歡聚一堂，共迎新年。

剛剛過去的2012年，是中英兩國企業(yè)家值得共同自豪的一年。去年1-11月，據(jù)中方統(tǒng)計中英雙邊貿(mào)易增長了7.1%，達(dá)到570億美元。這一成績的取得來之不易，因為同期中國同歐盟的貿(mào)易下降了4.1%，英國是中國在歐盟主要貿(mào)易伙伴中唯一出口和進(jìn)口都實現(xiàn)正增長的國家。特別值得一提的是，中國從英進(jìn)口前11個月增長了17.8%，增幅在歐盟成員國中居第一位。

剛剛過去的2012年，是中國企業(yè)表現(xiàn)突出的一年。中國企業(yè)對英投資連出大手筆。根據(jù)不完全統(tǒng)計，2012年中國企業(yè)通過參股并購在英投資80多億美元，超過近幾年總和。中投公司、光明集團(tuán)、中石化、中海油、華為，不僅榜上有名，而且成為排頭兵。我相信，今后，中英雙方在基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施、油氣、核能、海上風(fēng)電、食品工業(yè)、信息技術(shù)等領(lǐng)域，還將取得更多突破，開展更多資本、項目合作。

剛剛過去的2012年，也是在英國的中資企業(yè)喜事不斷的一年。去年，我就參加了農(nóng)行開業(yè)典禮、工行遷址、中國電信在英開展新業(yè)務(wù)、南航開通直航等多場中資企業(yè)活動。我也了解到，華為（英國）公司等中資企業(yè)在英簽了大合同，將進(jìn)一步加大在英投資，擴大招收雇員。這表明，中國企業(yè)在英國正在不斷發(fā)展壯大。

隨著中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作的不斷發(fā)展，有11年歷史的英國中資企業(yè)協(xié)會的隊伍也在不斷壯大，成員目前已經(jīng)達(dá)到120多家。作為在英中資企業(yè)的聯(lián)盟，我衷心希望協(xié)會今后在中英經(jīng)貿(mào)合作中發(fā)揮更大更重要的作用。

一是發(fā)揮鼓勵吸引作用。希望你們多現(xiàn)身說法，向國內(nèi)企業(yè)介紹在英投資、發(fā)展的成功經(jīng)驗和秘訣，吸引更多的中國企業(yè)“走出來”，開拓英國和歐洲市場，走國際化經(jīng)營道路。

二是發(fā)揮交流促進(jìn)作用。希望你們不僅成為中資企業(yè)之間的交流平臺，更能加強與英國行業(yè)組織、企業(yè)協(xié)會的聯(lián)系，如48家集團(tuán)俱樂部、英中貿(mào)協(xié)、倫敦工商會等，經(jīng)常與他們聯(lián)合舉辦一些豐富多彩的活動，使中國企業(yè)家更好地了解英國企業(yè)家，使中資企業(yè)更好地了解英國企業(yè)，為兩國企業(yè)之間合作牽線搭橋。

尊敬的利物浦市市長威廉姆斯女士，尊敬的利物浦市議長安德森先生，倪堅總領(lǐng)事，女士們，先生們，Councillor Hazel Williams, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Joe Anderson, Leader of the Liverpool Council, Consul-General Ni Jian, Ladies and Gentlemen，感謝大家光臨上海世博會圖片英國巡回展利物浦站。

Thank you for joining us at the “EXPO NOW” Photo Exhibition here in Liverpool.這是四個多月來我第四次就上海世博會發(fā)表講話，第三次出席世博會圖片英國巡回展活動。今天與以往既不同，又相同。不同的是以下三點：

This is the fourth time I have spoken about the Shanghai World Expo and the third such event I have attended since the end of April when the Expo was officially opened.During this time, my feelings and views about the Expo have intensified in a number of ways:

首先，世博會對我已不再是一種抽象的認(rèn)識。俗話說，“耳聽為虛，眼見為實”。我在夏天回國述職休假的時候親眼目睹了上海世博會的盛況，直接體驗了“中國館”的雄偉和“英國館”的創(chuàng)意。而且，今天的來賓中，有許多同我一樣已身臨其境。

First, I was lucky enough to have visited the Expo during my recent home leave in China.After the visit I must say that the Expo is much more than what one reads in newspapers or watches on the TV.I was most struck by the magnificence of the China Pavilion and the creativity of the UK Pavilion alike.Chinese internet users have given the UK pavilion a Chinese name: “Pu-gong-ying”-the dandelion, which I believe many of you have visited.第二，英國與上海世博會的關(guān)系又加深了一層。就在本月8日，英國國家館日上演了華彩篇章。約克公爵作為英國首席嘉賓出席了英國國家館日儀式，英國國家芭蕾舞團(tuán)和上海芭蕾舞團(tuán)合作的《愛有多重》在世博園舉行了全球首演，130名來自中英兩國藝術(shù)院校的學(xué)生則共同出演了芭蕾舞劇《天鵝之旅》。通過精彩紛呈的英國館日活動，中國民眾更加感受到了英國對世博會的熱情參與，英國也更好地向中國民眾展現(xiàn)了自己的特色和優(yōu)勢。

The spectacular UK National Pavilion Day on the 8th of September, which was attended by His Royal Highness the Duke of York and other British dignitaries, brought Britain and the Expo even closer together.The event featured the world premiere of The Weight of Love, a ballet performed by dancers from both the English National Ballet and the Shanghai Ballet, and Swanning Around, a dance performance by 130 Chinese and British art students.These events have impressed upon the Chinese audience Britain’s enthusiasm for the World Expo and many of its unique qualities and strengths.第三，利物浦與上海世博會有著不解之緣。利物浦是英國第二大港口城市，與中國的海上貿(mào)易有一百多年歷史。利物浦是華人最早移民歐洲的落腳點，建有歐洲最早的中國城和華人社團(tuán)。利物浦的兩大品牌——甲殼蟲樂隊和英超“紅軍”利物浦隊，中國民眾耳熟能詳。利物浦與上海締結(jié)友城已有11年，兩市一直保持著密切的經(jīng)濟(jì)、貿(mào)易和文化交往。利物浦又是英國唯一單獨建館參加本屆世博會的城市，坐落于世博會最佳城市實踐區(qū)的利物浦館充分表現(xiàn)了利物浦豐富的歷史遺跡和宏大的城市復(fù)興。今天來到利物浦，出席上海世博會圖片英國巡回展，令我倍感親切。我也知道，10月16日是上海世博會“利物浦館日”，屆時威廉姆斯市長和安德森議長將率領(lǐng)利物浦市代表團(tuán)蒞臨現(xiàn)場，我預(yù)祝“利物浦館日”活動取得圓滿成功，預(yù)祝代表團(tuán)訪問上海之行順利愉快！

Liverpool enjoys a unique bond with the Shanghai World Expo.As the second largest port city of Britain, Liverpool started trade with Shanghai as early as more than a century ago.It received the first Chinese settlers to Europe and has the oldest Chinatown and Chinese community in Europe.The Beatles and the Liverpool Football Club, two symbols of Liverpool, are household names in China.Since Liverpool and Shanghai became sister cities 11 years ago, the economic, trade and cultural ties between them have flourished.Not to say that Liverpool is the only UK city with its own pavilion in the Expo.Housed in the Urban Best Practice Area, the Liverpool pavilion not only shows the rich historical heritage of Liverpool, but also a great city revitalised.So it is very special for me to attend a photo exhibition on the Shanghai world expo, here in Liverpool.I was also glad to learn that the Lord Mayor and the Leader of the Liverpool Council will go to the Shanghai World Expo for the “Liverpool Day” on 16th October.I wish the Liverpool Day a complete success and the delegation from Liverpool a pleasant stay in Shanghai.盡管感受和情況有所不同，但我對世博會的認(rèn)識和看法更加堅定和強烈：

Apart from these new discoveries, there are some things I have always believed about the Expo:

第一，上海世博會確實是人類最新科技和發(fā)展理念的一次集中展示。上海世博會探索人與自然的和諧相處，描繪未來城市發(fā)展前景，傳播低碳和綠色理念，展現(xiàn)人類最新科技創(chuàng)新成果，生動、有效地演繹了“城市，讓生活更美好”這一主題。

Firstly, the Shanghai World Expo is a great display of the latest technologies and development ideas.It seeks to explore ways for us to live in harmony with nature by setting a direction for future urban development, through a green, low-carbon way of life.It also displays the latest scientific achievements under the theme of “better city, better life”.第二，上海世博會確實是世界文化多樣性的一次集中展示。246個國家和國際組織共同參與的上海世博會是人類史上規(guī)模空前的大聚會。2萬多場文化活動的上演不僅是一場視覺和聽覺盛宴，而且是不同文化的交流與交融；是薈萃人類文明成果的盛會，也是世界各國人民共享歡迎和友誼的聚會。

Secondly, the Shanghai World Expo is a unique showcase of cultural diversity in our world, bringing together 246 countries and international organisations and offering over 20 thousand cultural events.It not only provides an opportunity to understand what mankind has achieved, but also helps the friendship and understanding among people all over the world.第三，上海世博會確實是中國的一次對外集中展示。繼北京奧運會，時間跨度長達(dá)6個月的上海世博會給世界又一次近距離了解中國的機會。每個人從世博會歸來后都有自己不同的感受，但我想有一點或許是一致的，那就是中國更加開放，人民更加幸福，中國與世界的關(guān)系更加密切。

Thirdly, the Shanghai World Expo is another close encounter between China and the world since the Beijing Olympics, this time through a 6-month long event.People will have many different feelings and thoughts about the Expo.But I hope that they have all seen a more open and happy China, closer to the rest of the world.截至昨天，上海世博會開園143天，累計參觀者已突破5300萬人次。整個上海世博會期間的觀眾，很有可能超過6400萬人次的世博會紀(jì)錄。上海世博會是上海的成功，是中國的成功，也是世界的成功。

By yesterday, the 143rd day of the Expo, it has attracted more than 53 million visitors.It may well exceed the record of 64 million visitors.The success of the World Expo is a success for Shanghai, for China and for the world.我愿借此機會，衷心地感謝英國奧雅納集團(tuán)（ARUP）和上海聯(lián)誼會的大力協(xié)助，感謝中國銀行（英國）公司和中國交通銀行為巡回展提供贊助，同時感謝倪堅總領(lǐng)事及總領(lǐng)館人員的辛勤籌辦，我也要特別感謝圣喬治禮堂為巡回展提供了場地和各項周到服務(wù)。
